I am disappointed beyond words. I am from St. Louis where there is an abundance of White Castles. I moved to Kansas City 9 years ago and I miss cuisine from home. So much that today my wife and I decided to spontaneously drive two hours away just to get some White Castle at this location. We are vegetarians but still enjoy the impossible sliders. We got to the location right around 7pm and placed my order. 8 impossible sliders w cheese (4 with onions, and 4 with NO onions) After waiting for literally 20 minutes and seeing 5 or 6 cars behind us pull around us, they finally brought our food out to the second window. Upon receiving the food the guy who handed it to me apologized for the wait and I thought we were going to eat (in the car) and drive back home happy. But when we separated our food, NONE of the burgers had onions on them. Since the lobby was closed, I drove back around to the window where I paid for my order. I got the attention of an employee who was at the window and told her about the mishap. When I told her that none of the burgers had onions she told me (and I quote) “we probably ran out.” Even though I KNEW that wasn’t the case I still waited for a resolution. She told me I had to go back the the END of the line just to get my order fixed. After driving two hours JUST to come up here, now I have to wait ANOTHER 30 minutes at the end of the line for a mistake THEY made? Meanwhile she’s taking other people’s orders and money while my food is getting colder, and basically ignored me. She said she couldn’t let me into the lobby which I have no idea why she even said that because I never asked to come inside. All I wanted was my order corrected and she refused unless I went to the end of the line. She was very rude and unprofessional and it really put a bad taste in my mouth for White Castle. She shouldn’t be working there if she can’t fix something so simple. All she had to do was ask someone to make 4 more sliders. Instead she says there’s only 3 of us here, what do you want me to do????? All I wanted was what I ordered. When I told her that none of the burgers had onions she insisted they did like she didn’t believe me because the burger boxes were different colors. I examined every burger and there wasn’t one onion in sight. Why else would I still even be here if my order was correct? Never again. I would starve before I allow someone to treat me that way when I’m paying for service. Awful experience and a waste of 5 hours of my life. And to make it so bad I still ended up spending money on food I didn’t even want anymore because it wasn’t what I ordered, and after all that unprofessional behavior displayed by the employee it tasted like cold dog food. Hire people who can handle a crowded Saturday night. I would give this rating zero stars if I could. When I pulled up to the menu board I was so excited, I took a picture and posted it on Facebook to make my KC friends jealous. Little do they know how I...
Read moreLOCKED IN!
I knew something was up when it took more than 5 minutes for any employees to take my order. It was around 2 pm.
I was waiting for my meal when the manager ran out into the lobby with a set of keys, howling something unintelligible while frantically locking the exits. A custom asked just what she was yelling about and so she replied, "We are just too busy we are lockin' down the lobby!"
Apparently, not everyone heard, and two men tried to leave out the main exit. When the doors did not open, they started to hit and shake the doors. (They were pretty big guys, too.) The manager scurries out and tells them to stop hitting the doors, and unlocks them for the men. As soon as they go out the door, she locks it again!
Now there are the two main doors in the lobby, and one door that goes out to the patio. Both were locked and so there was no way out! As I understand, this is a fire code violation.
Everyone, including me, that left the lobby had to ask an employee to find the manager and get her to unlock the doors for us. The moment I left, they locked the doors again.
Frankly, this was insulting and dangerous as well. In the event of a fire, or some other calamity, everyone in the restaurant would be trapped inside.
There were maybe 10 people in the restaurant. A grand total of 2 people tried to get into the locked building. They would have saved time by not locking the doors and having to run back and forth letting people out.
When your business is dying like it is at this location, WHY would you lock out paying customers on the one day it ends up even slightly busy?
I will say, the manager was friendly and doesn't seem to be a bad person, but this was an unacceptably stupid decision. I won't be going back until the people that are in charge of this place...
Read moreI really try not to give 1 star reviews but this was a terrible experience. I ordered a couple of the new 1921 sliders. The wait was pretty long but that's how it goes with new items, but the payoff honestly left me concerned for my health. One of the burgers was soaking wet on the bottom, as if it had been set in a puddle of something. The tomatoes tasted like licking a circular saw blade. Completely bizarre. I have to guess that whatever apparatus was used to slice them deposited metallic residue from sharpening or something. You know when you break down a head of lettuce and you have yourself a nice pile of leaves and then a pile of junk you are going to throw away? White Castle buys that junk and serves it I guess. Granted this item contains produce heretofore unseen in the alabaster castle so we can just chalk that up to inexperience I guess. The burger patty was much heartier than the sheets of paper they serve on their classic fair, but it was cooked to death. I actually wondered if I got impossible patties by mistake. However the most horrifying thing of this whole experience was the chemical taste from the burger patties. I really think it was residual grill cleaner. I'm honestly just sitting here wondering when I'm going to become ill. The only thing worse than a terrible experience is a...
