I would just like to start this by saying that the staff was wonderfully kind and friendly, but seemed defeated because they know there are issues with the hotel. I was looking for a place to have a nice dinner and hotel room for the night with my wife and the website for the Centennial made this place look elegant, clean, and historically charming - a quaint and romantic getaway. To be quite honest, I was embarrased that I brought my wife here - it was a last resort, not a destination. We ended up finding a whole different place to stay that was cheaper and immeasurably cleaner. The rooms were run down, depressing, and far below what I expect for cleaning standards. The interior of the lobby and first floor was small, but welcoming. It was the nicest part of the hotel. As you can see by the photos, the rooms did not meet the same presentation. The first room we walked into was, for lack of a better term, a dump. The wallpaper was peeling, the carpet was stained throughout the whole room, the mirror was cracked, the blinds were broken and the ceiling was multi-colored. The kicker was I had reserved a single king size bed but the room had 2 queens. I assumed it had been a mixup, but it didn't excuse the downright gross room. I went back to the front and explained as kindly as I could that I respectfully wasn't going to stay in the room because it was not in good shape, nor what I had reserved. The person at the front was very nice and accomodating. They apologized and then agreed that the room "could use some TLC". I laughed and responded that that's putting it nicely. After a couple minutes I was given another key and sent to a different room. It was at that point we realized that the original room was a reflection of the entire hotel, not just one room. To start things off in the new room, it was the ADA compliant room, which neither my wife or I need. I was very confused considering I was offered several options to change our room to, but we were given a room that some people NEED. The only plus side to getting the ADA room is they are usually some of the nicest and updated. Usual didn't apply here. One of the first things we noticed, and it's still one of the most unsettling, was that the clean towels were placed on the shower/bath seat. The seat that people place their bare bottoms while bathing was where they chose to rest the CLEAN towels? It's honestly disgusting. It continued to disappoint as we continued to look around. The cleanliness standards are non-existant. We found crumbs in the chair (see the picture - they are not small, easy to miss crumbs). The ottoman was conveniently placed over a huge stain on the rug. The furniture was splattered with stains across them of unknown liquid. There was dust bunnies next to the mini fridge. To me the hotel can be summed up by the television. I used to sell electronics from around '07 to '13. When I saw the television in the 2nd room and said to my wife - "Wow, that TV is probably from 2008. That's crazy old for technology." It turned out to have the manufacturing info on the back which read 2006. If a hotel has a TV that's old enough to drive, I think some updates are necessary. We decided before we even went to dinner that night that we would not stay there that night and found a new hotel to stay just 2 miles away for less than what the Centenial wanted to charge. Do not stay here, especially not for the cost. This would all be more tolerable (not excusable) if it weren't for the pricetag of over $250 a night. You're better off at a budget motel because I nearly guarantee it'll be...
Read moreWe had high expectations for our stay at the Centennial based on the fantastic photos the hotel presents (fabricates?) on its website; however, we were extremely disappointed with our experience. Upon checking into our room, the entire bathroom door came off in my arms, hinge and all. The wall revealed it had been patched over and over. We asked to switch rooms and were told they were booked solid and could not do that. When we learned that they were sending maintenance to yet again wood fill the holes on the door, my husband paid a visit to the desk and asked to see a manager. There was no manager on premise, so he spoke to the HR person. She authorized a switch to the room next door. This new room's toilet wouldn't flush, so once again, maintenance was sent with a plunger which worked; however, the bathroom had this urine smell to it which we suspect was sewer gas. The floor behind the toilet had a huge rust stain around the piping. The entire room was dated - the carpets were stained, cobwebs were visible in the corners of the ceiling. It just left a feeling of "Don't touch anything." Ewwwww! The carpets in the hallways of the hotel were severely wrinkled and stained. Some of the ceiling tiles in the hall looked like they were filled with water and stained. It was just gross ambience. The other annoying problem we had was each time we left the room and came back, the key wouldn't work. We had to visit the desk 3 times to ask the receptionist to rekey the key so we could enter our room. My husband asked if the manager would call us after the second time it happened and we never got a call. This place is so poorly managed and needs a serious update. When we checked out, nobody asked how our stay was. The receptionist just processed our credit card. Today, being one day after we checked out, I receive an email with a subject line "Thank You For Visiting." The entire body of the email explains that checkin is anytime after 3. It describes their on-site restaurant and that they look forward to welcoming us to Concord, NH. What the what????? Seriously Centennial get some hospitality training! My advice...stay elsewhere where the staff cares that you're spending $300 plus a night and is eager to ensure the value of your money meets your expectations. The Centennial is not the place!! What a...
Read moreI'm currently staying here right now, and only because I can't get a refund and can't afford to lose the $1000 I paid for two rooms for two nights. It was pricier than other hotels in the area, but the photos and reviews made it seem worth it. It is not. Walking in, there was food and debris on the floor at the entrance. We got to our rooms and they were so bad--dirty, dilapidated, one smelled like dog urine--that we immediately went back to the front desk and asked if there was any way we could get a refund so we could find rooms elsewhere. I had prepaid and it was a non-refundable reservation. I hoped that because we wanted a refund due to the state of our rooms that they could accommodate it, but they wouldn't. They also insisted that I booked through a third party even though I booked directly through their own website and my reservation confirmation reflects that. Given the situation, the front desk staff was very professional and tried their best to do what they could to make things better. The front desk staff are the ONLY reason this has more than one star. They arranged for two new rooms for us. They were marginally better (no broken sinks, no dog urine smell, no hair all over the toilet and used soap in the bathroom), but still very dirty and dilapidated for the price of this hotel. The photos online are NOT indicative of the reality of this hotel. This is a historic building and I don't expect it to be shiny and modern. But I DO expect it to be clean and in good repair. There is difference between historic and dilapidated, and this is the latter. The pictures I'm posting are from the second, slightly better room. I didn't get photos of the first rooms. **Editing to add: Today, day two of our stay, we left the "Service Please" sign on our door when we left at 9:30 this morning so we could get clean towels and have the trash removed. We returned to the room 12 hours later and the room had not been serviced. I had to go down to the front desk to get...
