I'll start with the good but then continue to read so you can actually get a better feel for my review and hear the bad and negative side of things. The main good thing is the design of this place. It's very unique and you probably won't find another place like it. It's actually three different buildings on an elevated platform. One is the main kind of kitchen area with only three small tables on the inside. They then also have a larger outdoor seating area and in the back I think they have a bar area as well. That's it. That's the only good thing I have to say about this place. The rest is my actual review.
Everything about this restaurant was very mediocre from the setup to the actual design and layout to the quality of food and sadly to the service. I can tell you right now this is a place that I would not recommend going to and if I'm in the area again, I will probably not revisit. Not because everything was terrible but just simply because the price to quality was not there for me and my family. While the food was decent, it was all, to be honest, very bland and highly overpriced. There were two adults and and two children under 2 years old, one of which is not even eating solids. For one simple chicken tender and a basket of fries. It was essentially $10. For the fish and chips it was $18. That's the standard price compared to most fish and chip places. But to be honest the fish here was completely plain. It literally tasted like nothing. It was just deep fried meat with no taste or flavor. My wife ordered a fish sandwich which she said she enjoyed; but again I'm not sure if that was because she was starving or because the fish sandwich was truly that good. Portions definitely do not seem to be adequate for the pricing. I ordered a five piece fish and chips basket and the pieces that I received were small, and like I said, had no taste, and really just broke apart as soon as I picked them up. To be honest that was very disappointed and in reality I would rather just go to a grocery store and buy some frozen fish pieces and some french fries and have heated it up in the oven. The service here was very mediocre. The staff I guess was friendly but to be honest not really that attentive either. They were understaffed and overworked. Our server did seem friendly but they only came and checked on is once and didn't even offer me a refill on my strawberry lemonade that says that it comes with a refill. Like I said, the price to quality ratio was not really here at this restaurant and I will not be returning again. But maybe I had a one off situation and this place really is great, I hope that's the case as I don't want to see a good...
Read moreThe picture I'm posting was pretty much the same experience my husband and I just had at this establishment. I assume it's the same person but we, too, are both laid back and I have the day off today but he is working today but did have time to go out for lunch and suggested we go here for lunch (our first time here). We waited for quite a while to be greeted but after ordering, waited and waited and both acknowledged how long we had been waiting but remained patient. I asked my husband if he wanted me to ask them to make the food to go, at one point, because it had been 40 minutes and we waited some more and finally he said yes, that we would have to ask for it to go. I went to the counter to ask if it could be prepared to go (it still was hot ready to go out, at this point) wnd explained that my husband had to go back to work. When I was given the total, I very kindly asked if they were going to Lori hide any sort of discount for the wait and the server, Darla, said that she would need to go back and ask the manager/owner and came back out and said no, to which I was kind of shocked, actually, and at which point I told them that we would just get our food elsewhere. The manager comes out and insists that we have to pay for the entire order, mind you, that we had never received, to which my husband told her that we were going to leave. We started to walk away and the manager said that she was going to have to walk with us and call the police, never once apologizing for the wait and only being defensive.
My husband and I both looked at each other like 'Is this really happening, right now?' We told her to call the police if she wanted, to which she said that we at least needed to pay for the drinks, which we also never finished but I went back on to take care of the cost of the drinks because the whole scene should not have been a scene and was embarrassing. She kept being defensive and insisted the order was put in 20 minutes ago. I was calm the whole time and quite honestly, simply in disbelief at how all of this was being handled. I don't care when the order was put in but we had been at the establishment for over an hour, placed an order 45 minutes prior and had to leave because my husband had to go back to work but will obviously not be back. I don't typically write bad reviews and there are honest mistakes that happen all of the time but the way this situation was handled literally left me flabbergasted, to...
Read moreThe food was disappointing at best. I ordered the 4 piece fish and chips and, for $20, I expected to get a decent portion. Each of the 4 fish pieces were only about the size of a standard chicken nugget. There was hardly any breading on the fish and the tarter sauce came in a picnic style squirt bottle.
On top of this, I ordered the clam chowder which was very, very runny and was full of rubbery potato cubes. In the entire bowl I only found one small piece of clam. Yes only one. If you can imagine a watery soup with the consistency of 2% milk that has undercooked potato chunks floating in it and has been flavored to taste like clam chowder but with only one piece of clam to be found in the entire bowl... This was my experience. This was by far the most disappointing clam chowder I have ever had and is not what I was expecting from an Oregon coast restaurant. This restaurant would be better off buying a can of Campbell's clam chowder and warming it up on the microwave.
My waitress was nice so I gave her a 3 star but if I could give her some feedback... She had a very strong odor of cigarettes. This didn't help my experience.
I could also hear the kitchen staff complaining about other guests in the adjacent building and how little they were ordering.
If you are on the Oregon coast and you expect to receive generous portions of seafood and you love clam chowder like I do...do...
