Don’t let this hotels older, higher rating fool you. It’s so dingy, bordering on dilapidated. The only redeeming thing is the location and view but there are other hotels that give you that as well, so I can’t even give it an extra star for that. I never review things. For this I have to, maybe prevent you from making our mistake.
Check in: Ms Samantha obviously hates her job; can’t really blame her, people can be horrible. But being treated like a bother for checking in doesn’t start things off well. No info offered on check out times, parking (had to make sure myself to ask how it worked), or even where the elevators are. No one expects Intercontinental service and friendliness at a holiday inn, but I’d rather you make check- in computerized if someone like that is the only option. At least the computer would say things like ‘hello’ and maybe even a ‘thank you’!
Rooms: horrible, honestly. Don’t be fooled by the updated lobby. Rooms are easily 10 years outdated and just dingy. First room had water damage and smelled moldy like it had mildew (pic), with a pool view that lets in literally all the noise from people at the pool and the street through the single pane balcony door you can’t even open (they’re all glued shut). Was able to request a new room away from the pool due to the water damage.
Room 2? Better, but only slightly. Still smelled musty and felt sticky, even with the AC blasting. Same dated everything with rusted lamps (pic). Dirty desk chair, Stained lounge chair. Rust(?) on floor tiles (pic). Bath fixture half clogged by calcium deposits over the last 10 years. Shower curtain rod hanging completely upside down hanging by a thread on a cracked tile (pic). Crumbled chip by the fridge (pic). Water steady dripping from the AC vent onto the CARPET the entire time we were there (pic). I think I felt more dirty after a shower than before. I’m glad we brought brought slippers, at least they’re what stuck to the bathroom tile not our feet. After drying off with a towel that has a nice big yellow stain, of course (pic). At least it smelled clean.
Can’t forget to mention; AC fans on the roof across the street are like having the bathroom fan on the entire time, and the sound goes right through the balcony door like it’s not even there. At least it blocks out some of the noise from the illegal street racing outside, right?! A ‘perk’!
I would never recommend this hotel, unless you’re looking for the cheap option where kids stay free and you can overlook the absolute dinginess. If that’s what you need, this is the place for you.
Otherwise, the location just doesn’t outweigh the negatives. I honestly think I’d rather stay in a motel 6. It probably wouldn’t be much worse, if at all, and you wouldn’t be spending $200 a night with parking.
Even for a beach town/area, where you wouldn’t expect high class and quality, this is so utterly disappointing it’s almost insulting. Probably the worst place I’ve stayed...
Read moreLet me start off by saying that I hardly post bad reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience because it is one I will never forget. I want it noted that my review is only about the hotel facilities and not the staff. I have nothing but great things to say about them which I will get to later. The hotel, Holiday Inn is in a great location on shorline. Who doesn't want to stay near the ocean and have a room with a view. However, choose your hotel wisely and don't let the location fool you! This hotel needs some major upgrades and work! Let's talk about the rooms, not all electric outlets worked, the bathroom vent did not work either. We had a mini sauna going on each time we showered. The door to the bathroom would get stuck when you close and open it. The toilet flushed slowly, the bath water did not drain properly and the shower head was old and crusty. If you didnt angle it right, it took the toilet a bath! The cleanliness of the room was questionable too. We had two beds, and I am not joking when I say I could smell the cologne on the sheets from the previous guest(s) on one of the beds YUCK! I told myself it was detergent or just the cleaning crew when they made the bed. The elevators, those things would close on you if you took too long to walk out/in. The garage elevator was out of service our entire stay and this is not good when you have an almost 80 yr old, walker dependent mother inlaw that can't walk stairs. Let's just say finding parking to accommodate her handicap was stressful and challenging. Also, the garage is way too small for large trucks. Those things stuck out so far it was a tight squeeze and holy mary prayer to get around. To put the cherry on top, the water got shut down for two hours on a busy Saturday morning! The blame was put on the city for the water issue but after I called the city to check the service work order, and estimated completion time, I was informed it was not them. The hotel had to shut off the water due to a flooding issue within the building. So, our plans got delayed by 2 hours because I'm a person that needs her shower to start her day. The pool. It is smaller than it looks in pictures, over crowded with guests, the water is cloudy, the floor planks move when you walk and the lounge furniture is torn and rusted. Oh, and if your a light sleeper like me, be prepared for some major noise. You can hear the cars on shoreline, the loud music they play, the racing and we even heard gun shots about 3 am one night. As far as the staff, they were friendly, compassionate, understanding, and handled all situations professionally. I had empathy for them having to be on the front lines providing explanations for things out of their control. This hotel has potential to be better with improvements to a decaying building, but know before you stay here that you might be having some issues. In the end, I won't be staying here again. It was just too much...
Read moreMy husband and I booked at the Holiday Inn in Corpus for our 1-year anniversary weekend getaway. We chose this hotel because of the location. We thought the marina area would be quiet and peaceful. Wrong! Apparently, the marina is the place where the motorcycle folks meet up on Friday and Saturday nights. We heard engines revving all. night. long. Otherwise, it was convenient to everything we wanted to do while in town. Regarding the hotel: The front lobby was welcoming and clean. The bar area and the restaurant were also welcoming and clean. When we arrived to check in, there were 3 people behind the desk. 2 were busy so we approached the 3rd one. She told us, "you'll have to wait for one of them" and went back to what she was doing. Ok... The pool area was pretty nice. The pool was nice and cool, which was nice because it was really hot and humid outside. The first day we were there, there were a ton of mosquitos in the pool, but the second day it looked like they were all skimmed out. The room was just ok. I get that this is an older hotel, but the upkeep could be much better. The outlets in the bathroom didn't work. The vent fan in the bathroom didn't work. The outlets on the lamps didn't work. The curtain rod for the shower curtain was broken so the shower curtain would only hang in the middle. I managed to find some rubber bands in my bag and did a little "southern engineering" to hold the curtain on each end while showering. The thing to pull up to turn on the shower only worked half way so there was a ton of water coming out of the faucet while also coming out of the shower head. The tub just could not keep up with draining the water. It took almost an hour for the tub to drain after a 12 minute shower. The bathroom was just dirty - the floor, the back of the door, the tub, everything. The room wasn't the cleanest either. There were so many dust bunnies flying all over the place that I lost count. There was a Cheerio on the floor near the bed and there was a barrette on the bathroom floor - this tells me that the areas were not vacuumed well, or at all. The coffee maker was on the highest shelf on a piece of furniture so it's cord wouldn't reach the power strip hanging behind the furniture, and I couldn't reach it to add the water. I moved the coffee maker to the desk, which was lower and the cord reached the second power strip, and saw that it apparently hasn't been moved in a very long time as there was a ton of dust on the plastic piece it was sitting on. There were two power strips, similar to what I have in my garage at home, powering the lamps and appliances. This seems like a safety hazard, and it's unsightly. A deep clean, an update with electrical, and some minor repairs could have this place super nice again. I don't think we'll return...
