I would have rated this hotel as marginal, except towards the end, my experience became quite unpleasant, especially after check out.
Overall, the facility was somewhat clean, my room could have been cleaner. The laundry facility had poor ventilation and any time a dryer was in use, the entire room steamed up, it was absolutely disgusting.
The front desk staff was often times less than helpful.
However, the biggest problem I had with Hampton and staff came after I had checked out. I travel quite frequently for work, and in this particular case, was staying at the Hapton in Danbury for work. Whenever our work group travels, the hotel arrangements are made ahead of time and PRE PAID by our company. The room reservation, all charges, all taken care of by our company and finalized before check in.
I arrived at The Hampton Inn, checked in, made sure they knew the company name and who I was, and seemed to have no issues as far as arrangements. I checked out roughly two weeks later. At check out, I handed the morning desk clerk my room key and asked if there was anything the hotel required of me. I received a "no, you're all set.". One day later, I see the hotel, unbeknownst to me, charged me nearly $1000 dollars that was supposed to be billed directly to our company.
I immediately called the hotel and the clerk on duty was less than helpful, and very dissmissive. I informed her that there was a major mistake and that Hampton needed to double check the arrangements. I also informed her that if they had an issue with the card our company uses for the hotel charges, that it was the job of Hampton staff to inform me that they were charging the personal card I provided them, which was only to be used for incidentals. Lastly, I told the clerk that my card WAS NOT to be charged any more money and that I would have our travel coordinator call immediately to clear up this mistake.
I call our travel coordinator, they call Hampton, they are dissmissive and rude with our travel coordinator, but claim the issue is taken care of. One day later, Hampton AGAIN charges me another $300 for the hotel room.
I call Hampton again, get more run around, our travel coordinator calls again, manages to straighten everything out, but not before coming to the conclusion that Hampton Inn and staff are totally inept and rude.
I've informed The Hampton Inn that we will take our business elsewhere, as these kinds of mistakes should be taken seriously, not dissmissed and disregarded. Additionally, to see the staff make the claim that the company card given to them wasn't authorized to be charged when they used said card to hold the room and make the reservation makes absolutely no sense.
Lastly, when asking the hotel manager why they didn't bother to inform me about why my card was being charged rather than our company card(which the hotel used to secure the room during reservations), the answer I received was "we will look into it".
I do NOT recommend this hotel, for personal or business travel. Take your business elsewhere and do not waste your time dealing with a rude, inept and...
Read moreI become a diamond member this year almost entirely off of stays at this hotel for work. A couple of very good things, and a few that I really wish they would work on:
Blackout sliding shades in the windows makes a great place to sleep Hot tub and pool in the same room and usually pretty clean Gym has a cable machine that allows me to do way more exercises than the traditional 50 lb dumbbells and an adjustable bench. A constant fan option that can run all night for white noise, without blowing AC or heat constantly. All rooms I've been in (at least 10-15 of them) have consistent systems that have worked for me. Staff has been very friendly and helpful Couple unique offerings for breakfast compared to the standard Hampton Inns I've been to.
Biggest drawback. No focus on environmental conservatism whatsoever. No recycling bins in the rooms or ways to do so, they take towels hanging up sometimes despite their "dedication to the environment". I avoid housekeeping coming in almost every trip I am here, as I have had them throw away grocery bags with packaged foods (apparently was near a trash can despite there being full bags of almonds and oatmeal boxes in them) or excessively wasting things. This is NOT the only hotel I have seen this at, but I aim to call it out every time, so that others are not fooled by social or corporate responsibility. Rooms in the summer can get very stuffy, with wet moisture on the walls and towels which don't dry. May be a product of the area, but still feels disgusting.
Overall I am happy with the hotel and thankful that there are ways to help me with my sleep issues. Great hotel with a few things to work on.
UPDATE: Upon inquiry about my thrown away bag of groceries. The manager Ryan went out of his way to get me a replacement Trader Joe's gift card. Very thoughtful and I am very impressed with how the staff handled the situation where there was no ill intent, but a simple...
Read moreThe staff were friendly. ||Tried using their texting system to communicate a broken mini fridge and didnât get a response for 3 hours (texted at 7:24pm, response was at 10:16pm). We called down instead at 7:30 and got it replaced within 45 minutes. Interestingly to me, the fridge door refused to shutâŚseems like something housekeeping wouldâve noticed. ||Speaking of housekeeping, there were weird substances on the headboard (see pics). ||Overall the hotel rooms were dated and need refreshing. Lots of wood, small bathtubs, popcorn ceilings, and a squeaky bed. The bed was sunken in the middle, and the edges squeaked when getting up or down (think cheesy 80âs movie bed squeaks). The wood under the bed also squeaked if you tried to avoid the side mattress squeaks by hopping over the edges. Iâm 5â3 so I wasnât hopping far, and I weigh 150 lbs for reference about the force I landed on the bed. The bed was comfy in the middle, and there seemed to be 2 kinds of pillows offered. Both pillows were fairly comfortable. Linens were soft with the exception of the top coverlet. It was textured and kinda scratchy feeling. ||The bathroom was nicely sized in the king room. I liked how large the vanity area was underneath, and it was open so I could easily see what I put there. The bathroom had a good ventilation system in the shower which didnât allow the bathroom to get fogged out. ||The desk was also nice and large. We have a dog and I put her crate under there easily to get her out of the way and we could still use part of the desk with a chair. ||The room doors slam and you could hear them slamming throughout the night. Our ac broke overnight and we woke up to a 75 degree room. ||They have 2 dog areas bookending the building. One had a lot of poison ivy, maybe thatâs common up here Iâm just not used to it. ||There are restaurants and fast food close by. The area seems a little run down,...
