Lovely place to stay, but they need to work on some of the small, but important details. The tv cabinet has large door that cannot be folded back out of the way and will smack you in the head every time you walk by...got me three times during the night. I'm surprised they haven't had conscussions because of these. The bed is rock hard...the hardest I've ever encountered in any hotel, so sleeping on the floor would have been much more comfortable. There is no temperature indicator on the room heat/cold switch, so you're left guessing what temperature your room will be. I was surprised to find no soap or shampoo in the bathroom...something I only run across is third world countries. There was body lotion in the shower, so I guess they don't realize that not everyone likes body lotion instead of soap. There was no hot or cold indicator on the shower faucets, leaving you guessing which was which. The Internet connection was fine until it just disappeared in the morning and wouldn't reconnect. This is really a shame, but all of these could be easily fixed by a manager that's more detail-oriented and intuitive about the needs of travelers. Otherwise, a lovely place, remniscent of a bed and breakfast, sans...
Read moreFantastic Location. Great Historic Building. In need of major renovations. Carpet needs to be replaced in some guest rooms, better newer beds with comfortable soft linens and duvets would be an improvement. Fresh paint, new wall coverings, new blinds or black out shades for restful night sleep needed. The bathrooms are in drastic need of renovation. Terribly old hardware, noisy pipes (can hear everything), bath tile from the 60’s, old tubs in need of caulking, gym style shower soap dispensers attached to the wall old and not appealing. Worn carpets and old wall coverings and drapes may be causing musty mildewy smell when entering the house. ||||The charm of this lovely house can be totally maintained with renovations. Odd Feature: unusual TV situation in all rooms. Small Computer size TVs placed on a side desk hard to see in most rooms. A large suite has a tiny TV inset in a wall/closet unit. Can barely see it from the bed. ||||The good is the Outstanding Staff. Helpful. Friendly. Delightful. ||||Sure hope the owner...
Read moreStayed at the Carnegie Guest house as part of a exchange program and took a visit to Davidson College as part of the trip. The group occupied six of the nine available rooms. Fantastic first impression of the building and the interior when we entered and found all room keys prepared in envelopes. Everything is wonderfully decorated and furnished. There are small meeting areas with comfy sofas on both lower and upper level. The rooms are nicely designed and spotlessly clean. The Guest House offers a nice breakfast of excellent quality. I liked the granola with fresh berries and greek yoghurt the most. It would be even better if one would become already some coffee in the early morning before the begin of the official breakfast time. The guest house and the surroundings were wonderfully quiet, one could hear nothing but crickets and tranquility. I would really love to return to this very beautiful and traditional...
