My family went to Mestizo yesterday at 4:45. It was obviously not busy at that time. We were seated and given water and menus We ordered our drinks which took quite a while to get and we were then given chips and a bit of salsa. The waiter came and took our orders. We waited and waited and then the waiter came back to our table and asked have you ordered He said oh yes you have. We noticed that other customers that had come in after us had gotten their food. My husband went in and spoke to the owner or manager and all he said was it would take another 20 minutes. We left. Will never come back This owner or manager just totally lied about the consumption of alcohol that anyone in our group had and he told us it would be another 20 minutes for our food after we waited over an hour. Yes we left without paying, which I have never ever done in my life. Part 3 Once again we had reservations for 5 oāclock and got there at 4:45. There were two people sitting at the bar, and possibly two more small tables with couples dining. If thatās busy then Mestizo is in trouble. We were never informed that they were busy or that we would have a wait and as I mentioned before, two other tables that were seated very much after us got their food in an appropriate...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe chips were warm but stale. The guacamole was either old or made with an old avocado, and had too much onion for my preference. They have an unusual version of a chile relleno... the poblano is not breaded and fried, but simply charred. Then, laid open and piled with whatever (they offer, steak, chicken, or vegetables), plus cheese. Mine seemed like the cheese had been under a warmer and then re-congealed. And, it was on the small size. The black beans were quite brothy, which is fine, but also scant. I had perhaps 2 tablespoons of actual beans. The mole on the mole chicken enchilada was candy-sweet. The meztizo burrito was large, but the red sauce (tomato-based, but not merely a Mexican salsa) was also sweet. Both the enchilada and burrito had tastes of bleu cheese. This could have been - and I hope it was - queso anejo, but it was pretty strong and out of place. The service was friendly, but a little forgetful. The atmosphere was fine, bright, colorful. The bathroom floor seeemed like it had had some...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was conflicted, the service was good, the main part of the tacos was good, but the tortillas were very disappointing. At this price range, I expect quality. My tounge was greeted with cold, cheapest of the cheap tortillas. The problem with them is that they break once they are picked up and you are forced to eat them with your fork. Trying to eat them results in your hands getting all covered and leaving one to look like a fool. However, the flavor was there. Some of the best I have tasted. Presentation was also colorful. Black beans was an excellent choice on their part. Nothing worse than pinto beans at a mexican style restaurant. When such an integral part of a meal is overlooked, it becomes hard to recommend to someone. Additionally, the portions are on the smaller side. With the community that sorrounds it, it is expected. Had the tortillas been handmade and the portions a bit bigger, this would...
