UPDATE: They removed momos from the menu which on the whole is a plus. The food here is honestly great in general. Awesome chicken 65, legit spicy and well cooked! I almost always get the same thing cause it’a so well done. My two year old loves the strawberry lassi. All in all, just thrilled to have South Asian food down the street.

This is a review of their momos specifically. As a Nepali person, I live and breathe momos, so I was thrilled to find out our local Indian restaurant had added momos to their menu. My husband just picked up some of those momos and honestly they were pretty decent, and almost hit the spot… almost! To my utter horror they served the momos with soy sauce! This just hurt honestly. Ouch. I want to ask the owners…why, just why? What distinguishes momos from all other dumplings is the spicy tomato achar (dipping sauce). Without it, I am not sure you can even call it momos. Please owners, correct this. Momo sauce recipes are abundantly available online and fairly easy to make. That simple change would turn this dish into something extraordinary and unique, and I would send everyone I know to Masala Mastee to get some.
P.S. My husband was originally told they only serve momos at lunch. Momos are not traditionally a lunch-only food. In Nepal we enjoy it any time of the year day, especially at night as a family/community event.
Tl;dr: Fine momos, could be great with the correct tomato sauce, can be eaten any day any time. - A person from Nepal, the...
Read moreKen and his staff are doing an amazing job at Masala Mastee! The vibrant aroma of Indian spices welcomes you from afar as you approach the entrance. Nestled along Main Street in downtown Davidson, we sat outside on their front porch space to take in the lovely scenes of the night.
Our waiter did a wonderful job of helping us navigate the menu and recommending dishes that we would enjoy. My date and I were impressed at the many vegetarian options to choose from! We order the Pakora Platter to start. It offers a variety of fried fritters and samosas. It was fantastic! The fillings were so flavorful. It was a symphony of herbs and spices that paired wonderfully with the sauces that come with it. The dough was golden and flaky. Highly recommend. My date and I had an entree of Aloo Bangain that is served with jasmine rice and an order of naan. Again amazing! The eggplant and potatoes were so tender and flavorful, caressed by a lovely sauce with a great blend of fragrant herbs and spices. The flavor profiles were outstanding.
I highly recommend Masala Mastee to everyone in the Lake Norman/Charlotte area. The menu has something for everyone. The flavors and presentation are 5 stars. The staff's knowledge of the menu and attentiveness again 5 stars. The lovely location 5 stars. If you enjoy Indian cuisine, or are interested in exploring it for the first time, Masala Mastee will go above and beyond to provide you with a amazing,...
Read moreMastee Masala USED to be good here until this place recently changed the recipe OR tomato sauce they use. Now it tastes very bad, very very bad. It’s like eating tomato paste out of a can. Chicken inside of it was fine. This is the only Indian place that didn’t give me an acid reflux and digestion issues prior to their recent changes. It used to be quality focused, it was our most favorite go-to Indian restaurant. Also, we did not appreciate that a server came to clean a table next to our table while we were eating. 75% of our food was still not eaten, while he was spraying his chemical for a solid minute onto that table next to ours that was less than a foot away, it was all airborne thanks to the fine misting of a high quality spray bottle, the A/C was on and blowing all of the mist onto our food and into our faces. It was not pleasant to breathe all of that chemical and helplessly look at all of our food go to waste. 75% of our food went into waste as we were not about to eat chemical sprayed food. Restaurant, if you’re reading this, a fine solution to avoid problems such as this is to teach your servers to spray or soak table cleaning cloth outside of the dining area and bring a damp cloth to wipe the table between each customer. You have very good quality spray bottles that spray very far and mist very well, which is not very good for dining room use when you...
