Happened to pop while visiting UC Davis. Generally, like going to pubs and breweries and came across the place on maps. Pretty easy to get to as it’s off a main street (2nd St.) although I happened to drive in through the back entrance, per google directions, which I would not recommend as it’s an unpaved roadway. Initial impressions were a little underwhelming from the parking lot but once inside the open-air area it was really nice and truly welcoming! The inner sitting area and bar are also very nice and definitely looked like a great place to hang out and have a few brews. All the staff were awesome, very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, since I was driving, I could not sample the beers on this trip which was a bummer. The food which looked very nice was not that tasty, we sampled multiple dishes. Fries were very good but would not come here for just the food. It was presented very well though. The outer open area is where we sat, it was really inviting and well laid out, it is very family friendly. There were a lot of small kids & parents. There was plenty of seating and sunshades as well as water vapor cooling mist. There were fire pits too - really awesome! They were setting up for a band. Additionally, the restrooms were also exceptionally clean. I’m going to come back and try the beers. I did like my overall experience, just the food did not live up to what I was expecting but I still think overall this is a good place in Davis to visit, really a very nice vibe. I really wanted to try the beers! Will update on my next visit!

Update: Been back a few times since my review; Added more photos. Food and service are always consistent. Original: I’ve been coming to Sudwerks pretty much my entire life and have seen the various transformations from restaurant to more casual beer pub. I’m not sure where the negative reviews come from since they reopened, but they aren’t warranted. The staff are friendly, food is on point, and they have some good beers. The Overgrowth Double IPA is SOOO good. Wow. One of my favorite IPAs of late. The burgers, fried chicken sandwich and pretzels are bomb. Fries are good too. Smoked wings are really good! There’s plenty of patio space and it’s totally kid and dog friendly. Would definitely recommend it. The ordering process can be impersonal, but if you just take it as a brewery and not full fledged restaurant, then it’s fine. Tipping culture has gotten out of hand and I’ve trained myself to just tip for good service, and not as a standard for a non waiter type of service. BUT..you can order beer tasters via the QR code, so that’s cool. And they serve them quick. However, you can’t order food with the QR codes which is disjuncted The other thing I’d knock them for is they could have other options on the food menu. Maybe some more sandwich options? Like a BLT, Roasted Turkey sandwich, Wraps etc. My wife struggled with what to get (ended up on the fried chicken sandwich), and would have liked some lighter fare - which wasn’t a salad.

Almost two years since the last visit, being out of the country. What a pleasure to enjoy Sudwerk again! We are happy, discovered that now they serve N/A beers. We’ll be back soon. One month later, I must honestly edit that review. After they were on the penalty bench for two weeks I decided to try the new patio late Sunday afternoon: what a nice place! Plenty of tables equipped with large parasols that provide shade, misters that makes you feel cool, peacefull and always the same good beers! Today we went for an outdoor lunch and it was a very good experience! And the staff is smiling, courteous and efficient. I'm glad I reconciled with Sudwerk. ❤️ (One month ago) What a pleasure it was to go to The Dock on a weekend afternoon and enjoy a People Pilsner lazily sunbathing and occasionally listening good music. Now the Dock is closed and I decided to try the new restaurant. Coming mid-afternoon I was offered only a seat at the bar and a "limited" menu. I sadly left and went to eat downtown. You only have one chance to make a first good impression and they missed it with me.

Second visit: Great place for large groups. Still find the ordering system irritating as you pay before anyone serves you and you Have to get all of your own condiments water and utensils yourself. One of our burgers was raw and we had to send it back, but there was noone to send it back to. We had to go hunt someone down. Maybe i'm just old but once upon a time there was incentive for servers to 'wait' on people. Now there is no incentive. Both times I've been.I feel like I should tip myself. Plus there have been problems with the food and service. But if you're looking for a big place with lots of noise - I don't mean that in a bad way - this is for you! I probably would have been more into it when my family was younger.

First visit I was excited to see this place post renovation. It has great updates, very modern and open designs. A nice outdoor patio option, a large fire pit. We went with a teen, two adults, and two grandmothers. Inside was most desirable because they get cold. It was not overly crowded at 10:30 on a Sunday morning. We were instructed to sit anywhere (although I had made a reservation online ahead of time, seemingly unnecessarily). We were told to use the qr code on the table to submit our orders. New to this, we figured out that we needed to create a group in order to order together but ran into some trouble as we were not told each table had a separate group qr codes and our less tech savvy group members struggled with this technology. Not to mention, the font on phones is just not conducive to many in our age group . The real hurdle was that they were out of bacon, so the qr code ordering system would not allow us to submit our order unless we chose a required protien, which was a 5$ upsell. So, I went to find someone for help. That took a little while. It was a bit confusing but eventually found a bartender to take my order verbally. She was great and efficient and didn't force the protien upsell. I paid, tipped over 20% as per my personal policy, and then sat down with my group to wait for our orders. The food came out, and we were directed to get our own water at the water station. Same with the utensils, we were up and down gathering provisions for ourselves. There was no salt and pepper anywhere, so again, we walked around for help, and after finding someone, they brought some out in little plastic condiment containers. One of us asked for a spoon because none were at the self-serve station. We had coffee to stir and beer sauce to drizzle onto the burrito. We were told we were too dip the burrito and got no spoons. It was a very confusing visit. They had a DJ spinning, which is novel and fun and also very loud for a Sunday breakfast with grandparents. My son ordered the Farmers Market Hash, which turned out to be 98% potatoes, very disappointing for the price. Market veggies were absent. A The cheeseburger was delightful though! The staff had zero incentive to check on us, our coffee cups. They were sweet but seemed almost as confused as we were. I regretted, for the first time in years, that I blindly tipped. That bartender was stellar, but we, as patrons, worked as hard as the wait staff for food that was not consistent.. I like the layout, the fun that can be had here. But be realistic if you are looking for a Sunday brunch spot, what you are getting into, and what your...

We recently hosted our wedding cocktail hour at Sudwerk Brewing Co. in Davis, and it turned out to be a great experience. Even though we pulled things together fairly last minute, the Sudwerk team made the process smooth and easy.

The service really stood out. From the first call to the day of the event, the staff were friendly, responsive, and flexible. They handled details without making us feel stressed and were always quick to help with whatever we needed. On the night itself, servers checked in regularly and kept food and drinks moving so we didn’t have to worry about anything.

The beer hall was a perfect setting for our group. It has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that felt just right for a wedding cocktail hour—casual but still special. Our guests enjoyed the space, and it gave everyone plenty of room to mingle comfortably.

The food was tasty and well-received across the board. It was the kind of menu that works well for a group: flavorful, shareable, and filling without being too heavy. Combined with their beers—always a highlight at Sudwerk—it made for a spread that people genuinely enjoyed. Guests are still mentioning how good the drinks and appetizers were.

What we appreciated most was how smoothly everything came together. Weddings can be hectic, and with such short notice we weren’t sure what to expect. But the Sudwerk staff kept things on track, handled the logistics, and gave us peace of mind so we could focus on being with our friends and family.

We left feeling very grateful to have chosen a local Davis spot that combines good food, good drinks, and good people. Sudwerk has a reputation as a community staple, and after our event it’s easy to see why.

If you’re looking for a place to host an event, or just want to enjoy a laid-back meal and a beer, Sudwerk is a solid choice. They did a wonderful job for our wedding cocktail hour, and we’d happily recommend them to anyone planning a...
