I booked a stay at Perry’s based on a longtime recommendation from a friend who had fond memories of the property which was long before I had children of my own. When the opportunity came up to try a new beach, I chose Daytona largely because of her rave reviews. Ironically, when I told her about the trip, her response was, “Oh no, I’ve heard it’s gone downhill lately.” Unfortunately, that warning turned out to be accurate.||Despite this, I kept the reservation since it was only for one night and I didn’t have high expectations, knowing the property was older. Still, our experience raised serious concerns, particularly around room security.||Upon check-in, the first thing I noticed was that the chain lock on the front door was broken, completely missing the knob required to actually use it. I brought this to the front desk’s attention, and while maintenance did come to replace the chain, the fix was ineffective. Both doors in our room (Room 101, ground level) had chains installed, but they were so long that I was able to reach in from the outside and open the door with ease, which completely defeated their purpose. We ended up buying zip ties from a hardware store just to create a makeshift solution for the night.||Later that evening, around 11 pm, we discovered the front door's deadbolt wouldn't engage due to a misaligned strike plate, which was another unsettling safety issue. I tried to report it to the front desk, but the office was already locked for the night.|There was also a second interior door in the room that appeared to be an adjoining-room door or maybe a closet? Either way, it had a keyed deadbolt with no locking mechanism on our side, meaning someone with a key from the other side could theoretically access our room. That felt especially concerning given the other security lapses.||Beyond the safety concerns, the room itself left a lot to be desired but was "ok" for a one night stop. The bathroom had no ventilation due to the use of a window-unit AC and the lack of an exhaust fan. The shower didn't drain properly, and the doors were visibly scuffed and dirty. The bunk beds weren’t a hit with the kids and none of them wanted the top bunk because the smoke detector was positioned uncomfortably close to where their heads would be. Additionally, the mattresses were too short for the frame, or perhaps the beds were built too long; either way, they didn’t fit right. The pull out sofa bed was lumpy and springs dug into your back as you slept.||Our outdoor patio area also felt neglected. Grass clippings were scattered across the ground, likely from a recent mow and rain, and cigarette butts were everywhere, even though smoking is apparently prohibited on patios. To top it off, our “ocean view” room looked out at a plain white wall for half the view.||In the morning, I spoke with Michelle at the front desk and showed her pictures of the door issues. She listened and said she would notify the maintenance supervisor and thanked me for bringing it to their attention. When I returned later to check out, she remembered when seeing me that she needed to alter maintenance and called over the supervisor over so I could explain everything again. While I appreciated being heard, I was genuinely surprised not to be offered any form of compensation, even a simple a refund of the "resort fee", considering the number of safety concerns. It made me feel like these types of complaints might be common place here as it didn't seem to come as a great shock...
Read moreUpdated:I stayed at Perry's a year ago ane the grounds have improved a lot since then. So, I gave a 4 instead of a 3. We arrived early and the person who started our check in (I'm told she is the manager) had the personality of a porcupine. She gave us a parking pass and wristbands stating they would calll when the room was ready. There was no call. A very nice lady at check in helped me the second time (she had blond hair and her name badge said activities director) she got me our room with no problem and was very helpful. Our room was fine. The building is old and needs a facelift, but it's clean. It rained rather heavily and water was under the planks in the middle of the room and water squirted out when stepped on. The bathroom had no vent and the lone window had the screen cut out. The doors did not shut well. The bed, room size, and kitchen were great. As I stated before the grounds have had a facelift since last year. The pool, grassy areas, picnic tables and putting green were nice. The only thing I missed was a shower at the beach entrance to rinse off. Donuts are served daily from 7-10. They are good but I'm not really a fan of donuts for breakfast. The location and the size and layout of the rooms might make me stay again. To be determined.
Last year: The lobby was very nice and cool. The staff was very nice upon check-in. Sadly, at 1540, our room was not available. We were given our keys at 1620, so not too far past the 1600 check-in time posted. Parking was a little tight, but we were able to find a parking spot. We loaded one of many available trolleys and headed to our room. The key did not work, and I had to go back to the lobby for new keys. They worked, and maintenance arrived within 5 minutes to make sure the lock was working properly. We had booked an Ocanfront Efficency. The room was clean and roomy, the beds were great, and had a very nicely stocked kitchen. There was not a hair dryer in the room, so if needed, pack one. The air conditioning was not as cold as I would have liked. It didn't seem to matter if I lowered the temp, it didn't really change. However, at no point was it hot in the room. It just wasn't cold. I also found that the shower, although hot, did not maintain its temperature. It would go from warm to burning hot without notice.
I found that the public areas are in need of a little TLC. As stated earlier, the lobby is updated and looks great, but the updates stop there. The halls and the outdoor areas need paint, general clean-up, and maintenance. The south pool doesn't have any lights after dark, making swimming dangerous. We also found a small dead fish in the bottom of the south pool. The north pool was lit up nicely.
We were given "free" drink tickets upon check-in for use at the Tiki Bar due to our Expedia platinum VIP status. The drinks were good, but we did have to pay extra because most of the drinks are more than the $5 value of the ticket. The hotel provides complimentary homemade donuts and coffee every morning. Both were very good.
As stated in another review I have read, there is a heavy smell of marijuana in the halls. Not necessarily the fault of the hotel, but the smoking rules should apply to all types of smoking. Also, not the hotels fault, but guests were up yelling and slamming doors until 0300.
The location of the hotel is great. There is a Winn-dixie, 7-Eleven, and IHOP across the street. Beach access is super close and easy. The beach is amazing with a...
Read moreDo not book. Just trust me. Don’t book.|First: we arrive at 4 to check in. We had 3 rooms. Our luck we got the worst room of them all.|The AC was broken. We spoke to the front desk and they stated they couldn’t move us rooms, and they would send maintenance. We got the run around that there were no more rooms in the area we were staying (Garden) so I said ok are there other ocean front rooms available and she said I will have to check but maintenance was coming. I said (frustrated at this point) so if maintenance can’t fix the problem are we just sh* out of luck. She said yes.|Needless to say I had to walk away. I get it, these people have got to deal with angry customers all the time I assume because the place is terrible.|Ok, AC got fixed, we were happy but we also had an issue with the door that we mentioned and they assured maintenance would handle it. Mind you, the door wouldn’t close unless we locked it. That is both unsafe and inconvenient because now we can’t leave anything in the room due to this.|Waited around (and who the heck wants to do that on vacation) no one came.|My daughter stayed in the room because she was tired and we decided to just go try and enjoy the pool. I got a call from my daughter around 9 saying that all of our food was barely cold ($250 worth of food for the week) so I said well maybe it’s just not had time to cool off (she was referring to soda when she called) we let it go. The rest of our party staying in the other rooms showed up and we stood around and talked soon it was 10:50ish and we came in. I should’ve expected it at this point but I go to open the fridge and everything is room temp.|So, we call front desk again from my personal phone because the room phone doesn’t even have a dial tone. They come out and have to replace the fridge. So at this point the ac has been replaced, the fridge has been replaced and the dang door is still broken.|So i speak to maintenance and he says that someone was called in to look at the door but he doesn’t know what happened, then proceeds to tell us it will take a long time to fix that door and he can send someone in the morning. We are currently still here on our first night so I will update you on what happens there. When maintenance leaves I start to put groceries back in the fridge, throwing away what is not safe to consume at this point, while doing so, I see that maintenance left a rag and knife on the counter. Upon further inspection there are dead roaches all in the rag from what I assume was used to assist in removing the fridge.|I am so furious that we spent $800 on 4 nights to just deal with this bulls**|I couldn’t give this place less stars.|You mine as well find a crap motel because this is very comparable to that.|The location is good and both other rooms looked fine at first glance. BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT STAY IN ROOM G4|If you can, avoid this hotel at all costs.|I didn’t get a pic of the AC before it was replaced but it was cracked and barely hanging on but I will add photos of the door, damaged floors and the lovely present that was left on our counters next to all of our dry food.|Signed,|A really...
