Holiday Inn Express & Suites Deer Park by IHG — Hotel in Deer Park

I just want to share my experience with the managing staff. I got flight delayed and reroute, so at around 6pm, I booked at this hotel. But at 8pm my fight changed and I had to cancel this hotel. I call to let them know that I will stay in another Holiday Inn in Lafayette instead. On my return I contacted the IHG main customer service and they told me that usually you can get refund for a no show if you called before, but it is the hotel management to decide. It did happen to me at least in 2 others cancellation that the hotel refund me since I stayed in another IHG hotel the same day. Also I cancelled at the holiday inn Beaumont the same day without issue… even if the dead line was passed. But after trying to talk to management (they were never available) sending Email, the only reply I got is that the T&C allow them to charge our credit card. I tried to let them know that it should be refunded since it was only 2 hours between the booking and the cancellation and also that the hotel was half full, so they didn’t lose money because of my reservation and I stayed in another IHG hotel the same day. But no reply from the hotel. I think it would have been fair to refund. Note that I didn't get any points for this no show. This is in their T&C aven if I paid full fare. For sure I will pick up another hotel next time and hopefully some other people will do the same. IHG should change their T&C to protect us. As a minimum get the points...

I really like this place and would totally stay here again. The staff was awesome, not only were they quick to respond to a request but they did it with a smile on their face, even with 5 people staying in one room. The beds and pillows are extremely comfortable and spacious, as well as the room. The desk area so we can put our own computer setup was very convenient as well as a sitting area to eat breakfast in the room. The breakfast was very good with lots of options. Very quiet environment with a pool, ice machine, workout area, business area for access to a computer, and multiple vending machines. Back to the room the small kitchen has a granite counter top, a Keurig, microwave, mini refrigerator with a integrated freezer, plenty of cabinet space, but does have a very small sink. The room has a safe like most hotels do and 2 tall mirrors, a couch, a coffee table, 2 big windows, but a very small closet. Not to mention if you forgot to pack a toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, shaving cream they give you that item(s) for free! Over all a very great hotel and my only real complaint would be cleanliness in more discreet areas (yes I'm that kind of person that notices small things, like how the tiles are laid really well in the bathroom), but like I said a very great hotel, and I do believe this 2 star hotel does deserve a high rating than...

One thing that is normally overlooked in most hotel surveys is the hotel staff's knowledge of the local area, such as location and routes to important venues and especially restaurants, including fast-food facilities. When traveling from out of area locations, that sort of knowledge is very useful as it limits the amount of time the traveler has to spend finding a quick bite to eat after his/her travels or how to get to the facility of interest. I got some helpful information on my late arrival at the Deer Park Holiday Inn Express as to the location of a couple of fast-food sites but I actually had to tell the front-desk agent as to the location of the nearest Burger King (which was right next to a McDonald's and a Taco Cabana, about 1/2 mile or less from the Holiday Inn Express on the main road (Center Street) that connects to the road where the Deer Park Holiday Inn Express is located (X Street). Seems to me, the hotel should have a simple map that they can hand to the traveler showing the location of all such restaurants within a 2-3 mile radius around the hotel (with the actual address of the restaurant) so that the traveler can either use the map or load the address into his/her cell phone or PDA.
