Unequivocally my new favorite hotel in Deland! We have already booked our next stay for September 30th! The ambiance and enchantment of this hotel affirm that the owner devoted a great deal of care and consideration to seeing that every last amazing detail is thought of. When walking in, you feel like you've stepped into the 1920's. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by CarolAnne, who’s attire and make up embodied that of a quintessential 1920’s pin up girl! CarolAnne was extremely personable and professional. We had booked online and provided the confirmation number, so the check in process was easy and efficient. CarolAnne provided us with our key ( a vintage-style black and gold room key) and escorted us to our room. We ascended the stairs to Room 206 and as we entered the hallway, she cautioned that the original, unchanged beauty and character of the Deland Hotel means that the floors might be uneven. I must agree; the creaking and slight slope of the floor added a nostalgic and majestic quality, reminiscent of years past. As we entered our room, my attention was immediately drawn to the elevated 4 poster king size bed. We would later find out that being aesthetically pleasing was not the bed’s only feature. The bedding, mattress and pillows are all of high quality, which made the bed and our night’s sleep very cozy and comfortable. Before departing, CarolAnne provided us with the complimentary wifi information, asked if there was anything we needed, and announced that she would return with our ice bucket. Yes, you read that correctly! SHE filled our ice bucket!!!! Just another example demonstrating the forethought the owners must have put into seeing that every last amazing detail is thought of. Speaking of every last amazing detail, do yourself a favor and take the time to immerse yourself in the claw foot tub! I did and want to give kudos to whoever thought of furnishing the bathroom with a bath caddy. My husband and I were in Deland visiting my Mother, who had just had emergency surgery, so were unable to partake in the complimentary happy hour of beer and wine, but were pleasantly surprised when we returned to the hotel after 11 pm and were once again warmly greeted (this time by Ross) as we entered the building. Russ welcomed us back to the hotel, inquired about how my mother was feeling, and invited us to enjoy a glass of wine. Within moments of engaging with the brawny man with the benevolent smile, it was obvious he was the owner and his inquiry showed he took a great deal of pride in making a genuine connection with guests and providing them with an extraordinary experience. This leadership is reflected in the high standards of his hotel and is distinctly exhibited by both him and his staff. In spite of the fact that we were called to Deland due to an adverse situation, the beauty, grandeur and history of The Deland Hotel created a magical stay. It is a beautiful historic building and the entire staff provides a true sample of excellent hospitality and the finest treatment I have ever...
Read moreWe stayed at the Deland Hotel a few days after Hurricane Irma stormed through Florida, so we were pleasantly surprised to see everything at the hotel cleaned up, neat, and in order, only a day after electricity was restored to the area. Ross, the owner, and Carol Anne, the receptionist, greeted us warmly and were on hand at all hours to answer our questions, see to our needs, and generally make sure we were well cared for. Throughout our stay, they shared interesting information about local history and were more than happy to give us helpful suggestions about the best local restaurants: for breakfast--Hunters, an old-time diner in downtown Deland; for lunch--hands-down the best burgers ever were the Half Wall burgers we ate three lunches in a row at Half Wall, also in downtown Deland, a short walk away. Our room was spacious and luxuriously appointed, with a very comfortable bed, high-quality bedding, bottled waters, a claw-foot tub and top-notch bath products. It is obvious that Ross cares a great deal that his guests feel well-cared for, even pampered, during their stay at the Deland Hotel. We were in town for a football game that our son's team (from New Hampshire) played against the local Stetson University team at a stadium within walking distance of the hotel. The Deland Hotel was conveniently located for trips to the beach (New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach were approx. a half hour away), for a kayaking trip to one of the local springs (also about a half hour away), and, of course, for the football game (a few blocks away). I don't know if we'll ever have reason to visit Deland in the future, but if we do, we would welcome the chance to again enjoy Ross' and Carol Anne's gracious hospitality at the...
Read moreThis was my second time staying here, and I will return again next time I visit Florida! My first stay I was traveling alone for a needed get away and the staff was so friendly that I felt like family. Also there was coffee every morning and free beer and wine in the evenings! Owner suggested I visit Blue Springs and it was amazing. hiking trails, swimming area as well as manatee watching. I returned earlier this month for a friends wedding and was excited to bring my boyfriend John to see this beautiful historic hotel. He is quit the history buff and Ross, the owner shared many historical facts with him! This visit was just after the Hotel opened it's 1920's bar, which is amazing. (even if you don't stay there you should visit!) Cocktails aren't free but totally worth trying the unique mixtures! I was able to get my hair done by Marcie at the hotel salon for the wedding and was very pleased. She is very friendly and very good at what she does! Even though Rodger, the owners father made what John referred to as the BEST coffee he has had, there are many great coffee shops within walking distance when the craving for a latte arises! I was so impressed with the comfort of the Hotel that I invited one of my best friends from my childhood to join me for a few days after my BF returned to CA for work. Jay, one of the awesome bartenders gave Kelly and I lots of great advise about local restaurants which All were delicious! However, over the 8 days I stayed on this trip, I ate from the Sushi Restaurant within the Hotel at least 4 times. From my experiences at The Deland Hotel, I can recommend it for a relaxing getaway alone, romantic getaway, as well as a comfy place to hang out with...
