We don’t go out to dinner much but After hearing multiple people speak highly of The Table, my boyfriend and I decided to try this Deland hotspot to celebrate our 5 year anniversary.
The dining room for The Table is below street level so you can walk down stairs or enter from the lounge and walk down. Except in our case, since my boyfriend is handicapped and uses a walker. I explained our situation and was told when I called to make a reservation it wasn’t a problem since they have an elevator just for this purpose. The elevator is reached through locked double glass doors from the parking lot next to the handicapped parking spots which was very convenient, or so we thought. During my reservation making phone call I was told to call shortly before we arrived and they would sent an employee up to let us in and escort us to the elevator and dining room. When we got about 5 minutes away I called as I was advised to. When I told the person who answered why I was calling I was told to just come through the Lounge, which I told her wasn’t possible and reiterated what I was told previously about someone coming to let us in to the elevator. After being slightly rude and annoyed at our request, she said she’d send someone up. When we arrived we headed to the double glass doors waiting to be let in. After 10 minutes no one came to meet us. We eventually go through the doors because an employee of another business was exiting. We thought ok well just head down in the elevator on our own. We were a bit nervous cause the elevator seemed quite old but we went for it since we had no other option. When arriving on the dining room level we exited the elevator to find a dark and dank hallway filled with extra kitchen and catering equipment ( we commented it looked like something out of a scary movie). I investigated since there were no signs directing us to the dining room. Down the long hallway I finally found a door to the dining room which we entered to find a dark dining room.
After 15-20 minutes of waiting for our table we were finally sat and were quickly greeted by our waiter who seemed hurried and preoccupied with every visit to our table. We ordered a couple of drinks to celebrate and proceeded to order 2 appetizers ( we spied them when looking at their menu online) the pork belly and crab dip, both which they were out of. We opted for cheese curds and spinach artichoke dip instead. Nothing about either appetizer was very good and both were just like warm. We figured we’d have better luck with our entrees. I ordered the shrimp and grits (it came highly recommended) and my boyfriend ordered the braised short ribs. Neither of the entrees knocked our socks off, actually they were average, at best. We didn’t even try dessert after very mediocre food and below average service.
All in all, I definitely wouldn’t recommend The Table. It was very...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place.
It is in a great location and they have decorated and designed it to be a unique and beautiful restaurant, especially the patio. Our server was fantastic - Amaya. She was friendly and attentive - everything you would consider good customer service. The appetizer we ordered, spinach artichoke dip, was so amazing! The chicken sandwich and Mac and cheese my daughter ordered was okay…Good but not great.
On the negative side… I ordered the risotto and it was pretty awful. No flavor and chewy consistency. I ate two bites of it and then gave up. It was terrible. So I just ate the rest of the spinach dip because I couldn’t stomach the risotto and I was hungry!! I took the risotto to go because I didn’t want to make our server feel bad about it. It was clear that I was not eating it or enjoying it, but I was not looking to cause a scene.
We originally sat outside because the patio is beautiful and they had space heaters out there. But then we found out after ordering that the space heaters didn’t work - they were out of propane. We got cold quickly and asked to be moved inside. The two hostesses at the stand were very unfriendly and said we might have to stay there since we already put in an order!!! Imagine that they would prefer to leave you outside shivering in 50 degree weather trying to enjoy your food?!? Amaya, our server, was very accommodating however and moved us inside. But the hostesses were so rude about it and just seemed perturbed that they had to set utensils on a new table for us. I asked them a total of 3 questions while I interacted with them that night - to move, if this was the table available in Amayas section, and for small appetizer plates, and they just stared at me, unsmiling, and gave a curt answer while brushing past me. This is the only reason service was marked down in my review- Amaya gave 5 star service at the table.
On a side note, the floors inside were all sticky and the bathroom toilets were filthy with mold growing in the toilet. If I had seen the condition of the restrooms before I sat down to eat, I probably would have left because it would have made me question the cleanliness of the kitchen if they can’t keep their other areas in order.
Overall, I’d return for a drink and am thrilled to hear that they have Latin Night once per month, but I probably won’t...
Read moreI had heard great things about this restaurant, but I'm convinced my friends are suffering from extended loss of taste buds from Covid. The downstairs atmosphere may be better during the day, but we dined for dinner. The interior is very dark, and bathrooms as dark as a dungeon. The space echoes terribly if there are tables with groups of 5 or more seated, making conversation difficult.
My husband ordered a beer from the menu, which took about 5 minutes to be told they no longer offered, along with a second beer on their menu they no longer had as well. Ok, stuff happens. Move to ordering an appetizer. We were excited to try the pork belly, which they were also "out of" and 2 other items from the appetizer list were not available either. Best to lead with offerings that are not available in a service setting. We chose not to have an appetizer at that point.
We didn't see our server again until after our dinner entrees arrived. Never came back to check on drinks during the wait, or just check in at all.
My husband ordered the strip steak, with a side of fried brussel sprouts, and I had the chicken club, sans bun, also with a side of fried brussel sprouts. Let me tell you, I LOVE brussel sprouts, and cook them frequently at home. Unfortunately, although my chicken was warm, my brussel sprouts were cold upon receipt, barely fried, and severely undercooked. Since I paid an upcharge for the brussels, I did bring their temperature to the attention of the server. She did bring us each a new, smaller serving of brussels, still undercooked, but at least they were hot. The brussel sprouts are offered with a "balsamic reduction". However, if you have ever cooked with a balsamic reduction, you know this is a thicker, richer sauce. What we received was just balsamic. The brussel sprouts had no other seasoning aside from the flavor of the oil.
Onto our main courses. Both the chicken and the steak were cooked well, but unfortunately, there was zero seasoning/flavor. I'm not sure if that's the intent at this restaurant, or if it was an off night for the kitchen. Overall, I don't think we'll be back, although the outdoor area looks like a great place if you just want to drink and...
