I had never purchased an engagement ring before (hopefully never have to again). So, like I do with many things I'm not familiar with... I went to the Google. I checked out some sites that offered up diamonds for sale online and I was able to get a general sense of what all the ratings were in regards to the diamonds. I needed to see and touch the real thing though, and that brought me to Downtown Goldsmith.
I was greeted by Jess with a warm smile which immediately set me at ease. I explained to her what I was trying to accomplish and she guided me every step of the way from there. She took the time to educate me so that I got the best value for my dollar. Just because a diamond may be rated highly doesn't mean it will present itself as nicely to the human eye as a "lesser" diamond. This was a big deal for me because I didn't want to feel like I was skimping on something so important. When it came to picking out the ring itself, they had the best display set up with about 20 different bands and all kinds of different shapes and sized diamonds that you could interchange. I'm not doing a great job describing this am it? Basically you picked a band and then you snap in (magnetically) different diamonds till you get to the combo that you like the best. Once I had the size diamond I liked and the band I liked Jess showed me the real diamonds that were available for purchase. We got all that figured out and I felt great.
With many things in life, it would be nice to not have a budget. Jess worked with me to get the most my budget would allow. She even took some old jewelry from me as trade in. She never once made me feel that I wasn't spending enough or tried to convince me to go with something I couldn't afford.
When it came time to pick up the ring, Jess stayed open late for me. You would think picking up something you ordered would be a quick process but not for me. I was in the store for about 20 minutes asking questions and talking about how I would pop the question. Again, Jess was great listening to me and lending advice.

They were so kind and patient through the process, explaining things to me as though I have no knowledge of rings (because I told them I donât haha), and making me feel confident in their work! The first band I ordered and fell in love with ended up being too small to hold the 2 carat center stone lab grown diamond, and I appreciate them being honest that they would make it if I really wanted it, but it would not hold up well, and they suggested I keep searching. So I went with another more sturdy band that I also loved, but couldnât decide between a round center stone or oval. I prefer round, but to oval looks a bit bigger, so Jessie reassured me that she would find a 2 carat round cut that was âwide/billowy,â (ie. would look bigger). And wow! They truly delivered! (I believe she said my stone measures 2.2mm). One last thing Iâll say is that Iâm a pretty quick decision-maker, so I naĂŻvely thought that getting in, getting the ring, and getting out would be just a couple weeks process. But between having to change bands, and then a hurricane happening in the middle of the order process, things got slightly delayed, but Jessie was kind enough to put a rush on everything and have the ring here, set, and ready to pick up a few days before my fiance was ready to propose! I did come to you to discuss my concern and you shunned me out the door with the promise you would review video footage. I gave you date and time I was in your shop. Why did you fail to mention to me right then that your video does not go back that far (3 days)??? Also, I was able to contact the jeweler where the necklace was purchased all of their jewelry has specific engravings. Guess what the necklace that was returned to me does not have that. Hmm I'm speechless, but no surprise. Please upgrade your video system therefore you will never have an incident like this again. You expect me to trust you found the work order slip.
