This hotel was a calming, pleasant, and safe space during an otherwise traumatic experience while we were stuck in Denver for 5 nights due to Winter Storm Elliott and our airline's inability to recover after the storm. The staff, in particular, Sandy at the front desk were ALL just wonderful to deal with. We were travelling with our two small dogs and became stranded in Denver on Wed., Dec. 21. After spending all night at the airport, standing in lines for over 7 hours we were unable to get another flight out of Denver until Friday night, so not wanting to spend another night at the airport we found Avid which was dog friendly and had a complimentary airport shuttle, so decided to snap up a room for the night. We were allowed to check-in a bit early which was much appreciated since we were awake all night and desperately needed some rest and recuperation. After checking out the next day we were welcome to wait in the well appointed lobby until our flight later that evening rather than wait at the airport. The shuttle took us to the airport and we again experienced more travails with the airline. Our flight was again cancelled and we scheduled another flight the next day. It was late so we ended up spending another night at the airport awaiting our flight on Christmas Eve. Sadly, that flight too was cancelled, feeling completely defeated and realizing we may never get out of Denver, decided to call Avid in hopes there was room available at the inn. Thankfully they had a room so we again caught the shuttle and were welcomed back and recovered in the comfortable beds and got some much needed sleep (and showers). After having a night of much needed sleep we were able to form a plan to get home using another airline. But it was for the following day so stayed for another night with Avid. During our stays there we witnessed, even on Christmas Day the entire staff from cleaning crew, to breakfast, to the front desk and shuttle all working incredibly hard to clean rooms, serve breakfast and help guests. While not the best Christmas of our lives, it was safe, warm and comfortable for us and our two dogs. By this time some of the snow began to melt, revealing a nice pet relief area and nearby businesses within walking distance. The hotel had an indoor pool, fitness room, coin laundry, and a nice lobby with lots of different sitting areas and tables. The breakfast was nice with some hot options such as a breakfast sandwich, egg white omelet, and instant oatmeal packets. Also, fruit, bagels, yogurt, cereal and hard boiled eggs. The rooms have a laminate flooring which was nice peace of mind since we had the dogs. The beds were quite comfortable with two types of pillows, soft and firm available on the beds which was a nice touch. The toiletries were on the wall by the sink and in the shower, in bottles refilled by housekeeping. I prefer this as it saves a lot of plastic waste from those tiny bottles most hotels usually offer. The shuttle was easy to request and seemed to make the rounds between the airport and hotel most of the day. We had no luggage or toiletries of our own but the Avid was able to provide a couple of small toothbrushes and some deodorant which was really nice. So while our stays here were a totally unexpected part of our journey I would highly recommend the Avid to any travelers who need a night or more to stay. During our albeit traumatic experience in Denver the Avid was an unexpected highlight offering respite when we needed it the...
Read moreI flew to Denver the day before meeting some friends for a ski trip because I found a good rate on airfare, but that meant I needed a place to sleep. My main two criteria for the hotel I selected were that it must have a free airport shuttle and free breakfast. I'd never even heard of the avid brand and the hotel looked new so I thought I'd check it out.||The shuttle took quite awhile to arrive on a Friday evening but that may have been my unlucky timing. The shuttle services several adjacent hotels so there may be folks at other hotels on the bus with you.||The decor leans to Danish Modern, which I happen to like, so I appreciated the light-colored furniture and rather minimalist decor. The hotel colors seem to be red and teal and there was liberal use of those colors around. The lobby was bright and airy, even at night when I arrived.||We were quickly assisted and given a room on the third floor at the far end of the hall. The room was fairly large, but as noted in other reviews, very basic. While there was no closet there were numerous hooks on the wall and in a corner unit. Our room with two queen beds had plenty of space for ski luggage as well as our smaller bags.||The bathroom just had one sink but there was enough counter space for us to put our toiletry bags on either side. No bathtub but a large shower stall and I appreciated the little foot rest in the back corner which is helpful when shaving legs. There are wall-mounted toiletries provided and a narrow shelf for your own.||I liked the light that was built into the mirror over the sink; that's helpful for those of us who need to get close to it without our glasses! But I wish there were more places to hang wet washcloths or swimsuits. We were just staying one night and didn't use the pool but if we'd been staying longer it might not have worked out so well. Hotels ask us to "go green" by re-using towels and washcloths but then give us nowhere to dry out the ones we keep!||Some reviews have stated that noise was an issue. In general that was not a problem for us although early on Saturday morning we heard the folks upstairs clomping around in ski boots as they prepared to drive up to the mountains. At least, that's certainly what it sounded like. That's a situation where lack of carpeting on the floor is a detriment but otherwise the hotel was pretty quiet during our one-night stay.||My main complaint about the room was that we could not get it cool enough. We both like to sleep in a cool room but even though we set the thermostat to 68F it never got below 70F.||On the ground floor you'll find a small indoor pool, a small fitness room and a laundry room that has a single washer and a single dryer. There's a market area beside the front desk and a business center by the front window.||The free breakfast was served in the lobby and had only a couple of hot choices but had cereal, fruit, pastries, juice, coffee (a large coffee area) and tea. It was enough to fill me up, which is all I really cared about.||The hotel served my purpose by providing a good night's sleep, breakfast and a free airport shuttle. I'd be happy to stay here again if the situation...
Read moreFirst impressions are extremely important and this is mine. When I walked in there was a pretty decent line waiting to check in and there was no Priority line. There was only one person working so that really isn't a big of deal to me most of the time. This is the important part. The computer terminal was obviously giving the desk clerk, Sarai, a hard time. She was trying to work between two terminal and I could tell it wasn't working well. This is totally not Sari's fault it's just one of those things. What struck me was how pleasant her demeanor was. Every time someone walked through the door she took the time to look up and great them. When it was my turn to check in she talked to me like everything was just sunshine and flowers despite the fact it was obviously a very trying evening. So that was my first impression and it set the tone for my short stay.
The hotel itself was very clean and quiet. Although, located not far from the airport it is in a rural area with low traffic. There are ample dinning establishments within walking distance. There is also plenty of free parking which is becoming harder to find these days.
My room like the rest of the hotel was very clean. however, it was a bit smaller than what I normally find in an IHG property. As I was only scheduled for one night (ended up being two) I don't really mind the size. The room had sufficient lighting and plenty of electrical outlets, 110v & USB, including by both night stands. That can be a pet peeve of mine. Wifi connection was ample enough to do my work and stream TV shows to my tablet when I was on the treadmill. Which is a great segue.
First, the fitness center is open, big plus, as well as the pool but I don't care about that. it also has pretty nice equipment for it size. 2 real nice treadmills and an elliptical machine. dumbbells and a smaller workout station. so happy to see it open.
For a quick stay this is pretty close to perfect. The one small annoyance was a lack of a microwave. I travel with microwave popcorn. That's my dinner on late arrival nights. They do have a microwave in the lobby and a reasonable amount of snacks, but the microwave doesn't have a carousel. Just won't work for popcorn.
If that is the worst thing I can come up with then there just isn't anything to complain about.
I did mention that is was only scheduled for a single night stay. I checked out in the morning went to work and had to check back in. Sarai was there again. Totally worth the...
