So far we're giving it 3 stars based on calling in for a ride, immediately being put on hold for 10 minutes, then being told it was a 40 minute wait for a shuttle driver AND being told the shuttle doesn't run after 8. So if you're using this for an airport hotel because of its shuttle service, I'd go somewhere else. I'll update when we get to our room.
So this is a follow up to our initial review. I have to drop it a star because it simply isn't an airport hotel. It's faaaaaar. It's a 40-45 minute drive. The shuttle driver was nice. The front desk guys were ok, friendly but not really professional. The one guy was flirty with my wife. At our age, it's comical but still unprofessional. I know why we were on hold for 10 minutes now. When we got there, we had to wait with no line because bothe of the guys who worked the front desk were somewhere else.
And the icing on the cake: they do have breakfast, at 7. The shuttle leaves at 6 or 8am. Our flight is at 10:30. We wanted to leave at 7 and get there 2 1/2 hours early. But because of their really poorly panned shuttle service, we have to take the early shuttle and miss, what will undoubtedly be, a junky breakfast anyways.
In a nut shell, this place is a construction worker hotel, not an airport hotel. We fly through Miami a lot between St. Thomas and Colorado. We prefer to do an overnight and hotel versus a red eye. For $20 more, you can stay closer at a dozen places that are waaaaay better.
One last addition. We ate across the street at a place called Amaize. It's awesome. It definitely a chain type place but really good. Five stars to them.
So one last morning update. The room was 'clamy' as in the a.c. is sized wrong and makes the room feel wet. The toilet didn't flush in the room, well, completely. You get like half flushes. So that's irritating. It was I think cleanish. But we still didn't use the shower. So that's how comfortable we felt.
One pro is that they had a partial breakfast out early. No coffee but cereal (hot and cold), some fruit and pastries.
The biggest downer is the shuttle. Another disappointment besides the terrible schedule. It's shared with other hotels. So besides having to get up early to catch it because it only runs so often, you stop at other hotels on the way in. So buckle up for at least an hour ride on the way to the airport. Boo.
This place is definitely not your airport...
Read moreI stayed at the Best Western as a Diamond Select member, checking in around midnight—and from start to finish, my experience was frustrating, unprofessional, and deeply disappointing.
When I arrived, the front desk agent, John, was not even behind the desk—he was sitting on the couch in the lobby with his feet up. Instead of greeting me properly, he shouted across the lobby, “Can I help you?” There was no acknowledgment of my Diamond status, no thank you, and I wasn’t offered the complimentary welcome bag that’s typically given at check-in. As a loyal guest, I expected a much warmer and more professional welcome.
The next morning, I asked my son to go downstairs to get me water, and the front desk agent on duty, Samantha, tried to charge him. She wasn’t aware that I hadn’t received my welcome bag. After I called to explain, she was helpful and made sure the bag was ready, though my son still had to go back down to get it. I appreciated her effort once she understood.
The room was clean, and the location was convenient, but the air conditioning wasn’t working properly and the rug had a noticeable odor. On top of that, when I went to breakfast, there were no drinks available—no juice or anything else to drink—which added to the list of disappointments.
But the most upsetting part of my stay happened that same morning. After going down to eat breakfast, I returned to my room to get dressed and put on my jewelry, and that’s when I realized my diamond necklace was gone. I immediately suspected it was stolen while I was out of the room eating. I reported it to the front desk, only to find out that there was no manager on-site, and the staff didn’t even know how to handle the situation. I received no clear guidance, no follow-up, and no reassurance that anything would be done.
This was an extremely upsetting and unacceptable situation—especially considering I am a Diamond Select member. I expected to be treated with respect and care, not to be ignored or dismissed during such a serious matter. I truly hope this hotel’s management takes this feedback seriously and implements real changes, both in customer service and in how serious incidents like theft...
Read morePros: *The breakfast was good. Had lots of options both hot and cold. Better than most hotels. *The hotel is clean. *Allowed us to check in early (1pm) *Ice and water machine in lobby to fill up water bottles.
Cons: *Photos do not match. The listing photos are deceiving. Although clean the dark browns used for decor make it seems dingy dirty and outdated. The pool was closed for both stays. We stayed two separate nights about 9 days in between and both nights the pool was closed. *mattresses hit or miss. *No white noise from fans
Middle of the road: there isn’t much within walking distance to this hotel. The hotel itself doesn’t have a restaurant. There is a bar and a liquor store within a 5 minute walk . As well as a Burger King. If you walk about 10 mins there is another bar restaurant. And probably about 20 min walk a McDonald’s. A gas station within a 15 min walk. No stores or shopping. Walmart is 20-30 min drive away depending on traffic. There is a casino within a 20 min walk.
The first night we stayed the bed was comfortable and I slept fine. The air conditioning worked good and I really had no complaints.
The second night the bed was definitely ran down and needs replaced. Also the air conditioner and fan is very very quiet. If you need white noise this will not do. The bathroom fan is also very quiet so you cannot use that for white noise either. I could hear every noise from everyone in the room and hallway.
Overall: The breakfast really saves this place in my opinion. Overall it isn’t a bad hotel but for the price I expected a lot more. I would choose a different hotel the next time due to not having a restaurant on site, the pool being closed both stays and the chance of having an old uncomfortable mattress again. Plus I really really need some white noise to sleep which I usually get from the room air conditioner/ fan or even the bathroom fan.
If I hadn’t stayed two times I would have probably given this place another stay but seeing as how the second stay was I feel like I can get better value for my...
