We didn't have high expectations and this wasn't the worst place we've stayed. At the end of the day though it lives up to it's 2 star quality so take that as you will.
We stayed with a block of folks who were in town for a wedding. They only let you do a wedding block for 1 night, which is difficult with their 4pm check in time. So we had to stay a night earlier and actually didn't get the wedding block discount. Even then we arrived at 3pm, which is standard check-in for most hotels, and they charged us $20 extra for an early check-in.
Let's start with the pros: It seemed relatively quiet outside of someone who was blasting the base on their vehicle very early one morning, but that's not the fault of the hotel. The free breakfast was fine, they had eggs, sausage, waffles, cereals, coffee/cappuccino, juices and some toast related options. We didn't go in the pool or hot tub, they were both small, but looked fine and well kept when we stopped by. We had clean sheets and a clean bathroom. The staff were courteous and quick to respond when things were needed. The room maintained its temperature nicely.
The cons: I know hotel carpets aren't usually cleaned but even walking in socks there was a level of grime that could be felt. The mattress was horribly uncomfortable as were the small, lumpy pillows which were equivalent in size to the decorative pillows someone would put on a sofa it was horrible to sleep on. The air conditioner/heater had a horrible smell that hit you in the face whenever it first came on We had a first floor room so we had an exterior and interior door. The exterior door while convenient resulted in quite a few creepy crawlies and big spiders in our room. The interior door was in the bathroom, which was very awkward when coming back into the room with breakfast and having to walk through the bathroom. Also room service came to the bathroom door. We were advised by friends on the top floor they had a smaller bathroom and an exterior door that did not go into the bathroom. Stepping into the tub was a literal step up, and at just over 5 feet tall the shower spray hit me in the chest. I can't imagine how an average height person could wash their hair. Our room had very little toilet paper when we arrived, and being such a massive bathroom it was odd there were no other rolls in there. Water came up through the bathroom floor when you walked on it. It was odd, I assumed it was based on old water from the shower just building up, but wearing socks in there was a no go. There was a staff member one morning standing over the bread selection coughing and chopping up sausage and eggs taking up a significant amount of counter space to make her own breakfast. It just felt rude, and like something that could have been done at a table also coughing on the food utensils was gross. When she commented to us that she worked there it told me this was probably just a regular occurrence for her. The guy doing the power washing outside of the rooms was odd. We were attempting to leave for the wedding and he pulled up in his truck behind our vehicle and blocked us in revving his engine. He then proceeded to back up and we thought perhaps he was letting us out before he gunned it forward like he was in a race only for him to turn into a parking spot about 20 spots up. It was weird and honestly felt threatening. Not walkable at all. It's also nearly impossible to take a left hand turn out...
Read moreIt would be so easy, maybe even fun, to leave a simple review. “Run don’t walk to the nearest real hotel”. But oddly there are things to consider. Price, but we will get to that at the end. ||||The number one issue with this hotel is the smell of smoke I the halls. It is a combination of cigarette and cannabis. At least it was on August 12, 2024. The strongest smell I notices was on the second floor near the lobby. I felt I had a faint smell of stale smoke in my room all night. I was quite a way down the hall. It seemed to be venting in through the bathroom vent. Obviously, this is a “game over” for most people. That is completely fair. ||||Others reviews describe the hotel in desperate need of normal maintenance. Oh boy is that true. The halls need, paint, carpet, better lighting, and fumigation to get rid of residual cigarette and cannabis smell. The outside needs attention too. In my room, I had sink issues, but it was usable. ||||I found the front desk to be unmanned almost constantly. As I harmlessly walked through the hotel lobby, I was verbally attacked by people that thought I worked there. It turned out some of them had been waiting over 30 min to get checked in. I also have a bad check in story. I have Choice Preferred status. I don’t think that makes me particularly special, but I’m supposed to be able to get early check in. 1.5 hours before the official check in time, I was told there were no rooms ready because they didn’t have “any rooms” clean. He was super nice and apologetic. But I think the real deal was he just didn't know what rooms were done. And I think he was doubling as a house keeper. It was not handled well.||||Construction workers staying at the hotel were told to park their trucks with trailers across many prime parking spots. I had to walk a huge distance because two trucks and trailer consumed over 20 "up front" parking spaces. I think they should have been told to park in the back no me and others.||||To be fair, I will say this: ||||For TC the price was great. But I get people saying the hotel is overpriced for what it is. ||||The hotel “seems” to cater to construction workers that are in the area. I have stayed on this property 3 separate times, and that has always “appeared” to be the case. Personally, I have found the workers to be mostly friendly and very polite. However, I can understand if somebody feels intimidated because groups of people “seem” to spend a lot of time outside smoking. ||||My room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. I get you can’t dismiss the faint stale smoke smell and the mechanical issues. I did not see mold.||||Others also mentioned they found the staff to be “super nice”. I found this to be true with the people I directely worked with too. They seem to know they were understaffed and overworked but were uncharacteristically polite and friendly. I lived in TC for multiple decades in the past. In my opinion (past experience), many local customer-facing workers can be quite snooty. For this staff to be as polite and friendly as they were to me, under what seemed like impossibly difficult working conditions seemed praise worthy to me.||||Conclusion:||||The hotel is in desperate need of an owner that will invest in capital improvements and increase staff. Until that happens, stay for the price if nothing else matters. Otherwise, pay more if you...
Read moreI’ve stayed at this Quality Inn three times now from October 2023 through December 2023 There was a storm that knocked out their internet in late October, it’s now the end of December this Company still does NOT have their internet service back up and working giving the excuse that the repair service is located out of Kansas. Really? So for TWO months now they still have not had it repaired. Apparently they are not concerned about customer satisfaction to ensure they have reliable internet access as advertised on their website. The front desk says “The internet works in the lobby, You can come all the way up here to use the internet.” Sorry being on business that is just not practical to run up to the lobby to take care of any business needs that I need to accomplish. If you’re familiar with the layout of this hotel, it’s one room wide and extremely long. I had a room at the far end of the hotel, as far from the lobby as I possibly could be. Going to the lobby was not only inconvenient but not practical. Maybe sometime in the coming year 2024 they just might have the internet back in service for the entire hotel. Sad is all I can say Next there plumbing leave a lot to be desired, there toilets will plug up extremely easy. The front desk will take care of the problem by MOVING you to another room. Again Really? That’s customer service and satisfaction? The owner clearly doesn’t care that his business is up to par. Lastly checking in this 3rd time late at night, I find that they had a power outage, same as what took down their internet, this time it knocked down their main computer to be able to access check in. They were not able to accept any charge cards, or any reservations on their website, nothing. I was stuck in the lobby waiting to get my room for 45 minutes until the front desk could get ahold of the manger to work out a plan to take care of the situation at a time that the system would allow her to do so. What a royal disaster that was I was at a major disadvantage as this is the hotel that the company uses for business.
This hotel does not do any room services to your room while you stay. Example my previous stay, I was here for two weeks. No room service, cleaning of the room or towels no nothing. You must request anything you need from the front desk Conclusion. If you’re just looking for a room and a bed for the night. Then I suppose this will do. If your looking for more than one night I wouldn’t recommend...
