Formerly The Happy Taco, I recommend this restaurant. The old sign is still up, with a message below with their new name Mi Cancun. We went on Cinco de Mayo for lunch. We were welcomed immediately, seated quickly & our server was excellent. Chips & Salsa was delivered right as we sat down. Another lady asked if we wanted freshly made (in front of you) guacamole (we declined). Their menu is extensive, so it may take some time to decide. They were patient with us. We ordered a #3 & #4 combos, one margarita, Corona & water. The combo were $8.99 each. I had the beef taco, burrito & enchilada. My husband had a beef taco, enchilada & quesadilla. It seemed like the burrito & the enchilada were very similar... Soft tortilla with ground beef & red enchilada sauce topped with cheese. It tasted really good. I thought it came with sides, but I read the menu wrong. The crunchy taco had cheese lettuce & tomato. The Salsa was really good. Not spicy, but flavorful. The decorations in this restaurant are very cool. Some of the booths have been updated & the restaurant is clean. They also added several beverage machines with fruit drinks as you walk in to the right. The Margarita was good! They have drink specials every day. The staff we're great. Very friendly & a lot of staff walking by and picking up plates, refilling drinks, etc. The table next to us had the street tacos & with sweet corn on the cob. Definitely want to try that next time! They said thank you on our way out. It's definitely worth the try!

On a road trip heading to the OBX and wanted to stop somewhere for Cinco de Mayo margaritas and Mexican food. Decided on Elizabeth City. Chose this one over another because sit down and waited on over ordering at the counter. What a cute place and totally buzzing with activity!! We were very surprised to be seated right away with the parking lot full and also the restaurant. Guess sometimes it helps to be only a party of two. We both ordered from the lunch menu at a great value. Our order was carnitas enchiladas covered in verde sauce with chicken soup and the other was carnitas verde tacos. With beans and rice. 🌮 The carnitas was totally lean, flavorful and scrumptious. The best pork carnitas we've had in a very long time! The tortillas were also excellent, tacos of flour and anchor corn. I do not know if they make their own tortillas of some sort. Margaritas had wonderful fruit on top, and tasted great. The chips were warm with a little chili spice and salsa was good. Plenty for both. We stuffed ourselves. Service was excellent! Enough English to get what we were saying. Wish they were in our city! ❤️

Finally a fantastic Mexican restaurant in Elizabeth City! 😁 After living in wonderful San Antonio for a few years it was really disappointing not having a really good Mexican restaurant to go but finally one that I feel is definitely on par the food was AMAZING the service and servers were AMAZING we got the nachos and killed them, the complimentary chips and salsa and you can ask for white sauce delicious 😋. My daughter got street tacos, my son in law and husband got the burrito and I got the chimichanga it was so good not greasy like other restaurants chimichanga's. I think I might get the street tacos next time because there will definitely be a next time! 😁 Definitely do not hesitate to check this place out I definitely wasn't disappointed!

Everyone loves mi Cancun that I’ve talked to however I’m less than impressed. The food is delicious (if you can get what you order). However the prices are horrendous and the service while polite sucks. We’ve been in 3 times now and I’m done too many other Mexican joints in the area that have good food it out the terrible prices and service. Each time we have gone in we’ve waited a minimum of 10 max of 15 to even get a drink or water order put in meanwhile we go through 2 baskets of chips drink less. Then it comes time to order and apparently none of the staff speaks or under stands basic English or pointing at their own menus. Time before last we went and I pointed at something on the menu in the vegetarian portion of the menu he assured me he understood. I ended up getting chicken quesadillas without my rice that was supposed to come with the meal. Sent it back got what I ordered but missing the rice and avocado. Moving on went in yesterday waited 15 min for water. Ordered margaritas the guy didn’t understand classic margarita with an extra shot even pointing at the menu (starting to see a pattern) 15 min later another waiter realized we still had no drinks and the girl serving chips brought us water. Finally drinks come. I ask the guy about the extra shot for my husband’s drink. After a solid few seconds of explaining and gesturing me taking a shot the guy nods and walks away. He no joke brings back a large bowl of salt. Finally he gets the manager who only speaks slightly better English to interpret for us. I am not a mean person nor did I ask for the manager. The manager is confused bc he doesn’t understand why or how to give us the same tequila that is in their classic margarita. Leading us to think it isn’t fresh made but from a box or bag. When they finally come to take our order we are halfway through our margaritas and have decided not to go through the process of ordering food. We get the check almost $50 for 2 margaritas 1 extra shot and the smallest bowl of cheese dip. I’ll stick to the other Mexican joints in town. Side note they started adding some kind of lime seasoning to their chips that is awful. Not only that but our wait times each visit were inexcusable with so much staff standing around watching sports...

We have been here a few times and thought we liked it; good atmosphere, friendly staff and we always enjoyed our food. Unfortunately, our last visit left much to be desired. We came in at about 9:35, they close at 10pm. They tried to sit us in a small booth in the bar area with our children. We requested to sit away from the bar since we had the kids with us. The request was fulfilled with some attitude as they were already trying to clean the other areas for closing. We ordered quickly as we knew what we wanted before we even went in; Azteca Burrito, Shrimp Fajitas, and simple kids' meals. I have had the Azteca Burrito previously. It's a giant Burrito, and I have shrimp to share with the kids. When it came, it was much smaller than any other time I ordered it. There were only two shrimp, not the 6 or 7 I am used to. I said something to the waiter but was blown off. Not sure we will go back. If you are open, you are open. As someone who has run and managed restaurants previously, if you seat a table even a second prior to closing, they deserve full attention, quality, and consistency as if they were seated hours prior. Very...
