My husband and I looked for a nice room on Fall River where we could rest and unwind after a week of hiking with our adult kids. We stayed in one of the new units across the street on the river.
It takes a lot for me to write a bad review, but here we are. The unit is fairly new, and that's all it had going for it. The main thing that bothered us was the bed. I was looking forward to getting two nights of sleep, but this bed is VERY hard! If you are looking for an ultra-firm mattress, this is the place for you. I am a side sleeper and kept waking up with shoulder pain. The other thing was that they only provide you with two very thin blankets. We froze in the cold hard bed the first night. We normally sleep in a cool room but have a down comforter or something similar to keep us warm. I called the office to see if they had any comforters or warmer blankets and of course they didn't. Could you possibly invest in some inexpensive washable down comforters or blankets? After all, this is Colorado? Also, this room could accommodate a king bed. I didn't quite understand the queen bed situation. Maybe cheaper for them I guess.
WIFI is TERRIBLE. Husband had a hard time pulling up work emails. I wanted to work on our vacation pics but you are unable to upload photos or send. I finally drove to McDonalds so that I could send photos to our kids.
There is nowhere comfortable to sit. Just two dining chairs.
Bathroom is small with no counter space.
COFFEE: On the second morning we were there, of course there was no coffee left in our room (they gave us enough for 2 cups) and their breakfast area wasn’t open yet. So here we are, scraping the ice off of our vehicle at 6am in the freezing cold to drive to McDonalds to get coffee.
BALCONY: I was SO looking forward to sitting on the balcony overlooking the river. The balcony is so small that two people could barely fit. And the view is VERY so so. This building is right next to the highway. It does not feel "homey" at all. More like you are stuck on the side of the road. When we pulled up, my husband said "that is it"? It looks like a restroom facility you would stop at on the side of the road. I know that may sound a little extreme but if you pull up to look at it you will see exactly what I mean. No landscaping or grass in the front, just a building with a lot of pavement in front. It is on the curve of the river and not that nice cozy river view as I imagined or as the photos on the website portrayed.
We travel a lot using hotels, Airbnb's, VRBO's etc. I don't like writing bad reviews. We know what to expect and I do not feel like we are being pretentious, picky or expect more than what we pay for. It has the feeling here that they are going to take advantage of every choice they make as far as room furnishings, etc. I definitely don’t feel like it was worth the $582.40 we spent for two nights of no sleep.
Needless to say, our trip to Estes Park was not what we thought it would be. Oh well. We will head home tired, sore and a little upset with our experience. We scouted out a few other places so that we know where we will...
Read moreTo start, I want to say I’ve never written a bad review in my life. I believe most people are good, and everyone has bad days; I try not to hold those bad days against them. But I feel it is my duty to others to share my friend and I’s experience staying here. We are clean, quiet, and courteous guests. Not sure what we did to set Dana off, but from the start it felt like we were an inconvenience rather than paying customers. We stayed for a few nights for a girls weekend and will not be coming back. We went so far as to look at different places to stay because we were so uncomfortable. I don’t know if it was that we asked her to help fix our non-functioning fridge (didn’t want our yogurt to spoil), that we were young, or that we are two girls she may have assumed to be dating — regardless we felt unwelcome and uncomfortable throughout. While there are a lot of positive reviews based on location, we realized we missed all the reviews that indicated the owner was rude and condescending. The worst of our interactions with Dana was when she accosted us as we were using the outdoor space and fireplace area. We had picked up some marshmallows and were enjoying a s’more outside when she came to yell at us and say that was not allowed (despite the fact there were no posted notices or rules). I understand why they didn’t want to take a chance on a marshmallow mess, but she could have said this nicely rather than publicly raising her voice at us in such a condescending manner. Only take a small breakfast unless you want a rude comment from the owner amount the quantity you are eating No room service for duration of stay (covid restriction) and no trash can in the room. These things would not have been too big of a deal except that Dana made us so uncomfortable that we did not feel like subjecting ourselves to one of her rude remarks by asking for a fresh towel. Fridge was not functioning when we first arrived Poor ventilation, can smell very fragrant food from the owners kitchen below hard to regulate temperature Small rooms, photos feel misleading
Pros good location Water pressure in shower is nice
While the owner said she hoped we had a nice stay as we were checking out, it was a little too late. We had a lovely time in Estes Park but due to the owners being so blatantly rude and inhospitable, we cannot...
Read moreWe cannot say enough good about Dana, the owner. She is an amazing host and super caring person, to say the very least! Great communication with her from the beginning till the end! She gave us recommendations on what to see and where to eat while in Estes Park. We followed all of her recommendations which resulted in a perfect stay! We are from Indiana. Our main reason for staying in Estes Park was to visit Rocky Mountain National Park with our son who lives about 2 hours away. Although I went thru all of the necessary steps on my cell phone to get a timed entry pass to the Park the night before, I FAILED! I was devastated!! Emotions took over! Dana had gone home for the evening; however, The Maxwell Inn staff witnessed my devastation and made her aware of my failure. Later that evening, still reeling from my failure and trying to make alternative arrangements with our son, there came a knock at our hotel door. It was Dana! She came carrying a sheet of paper -- A TIMED ENTRY + BEAR LAKE pass!!! When she heard the news of my devastation, she went on her cell phone to the park website to see if she could get a pass for us. None were available! Then she tried via her laptop. Amazingly enough, there she found one!!! She immediately bought it for us. Her quick and caring action seriously saved the day!! She was a God send!! The next day our son met us at the hotel, as planned, left his truck there, which Dana had given him permission to do, and we set out for a beautiful and wonderful day together at Rocky Mountain National Park! All possible because of prayer and Dana's efforts! Thank you...
