I wanted to shop here but they’re discouraging mask wearing in and outside the store with signs. It’s not safe for my family or others. We’re choosing not to shop here as other taffy in town comes with a lower risk of coronavirus.
Update 10/13/2020: Our family is back in town for the month and glad to see the signs no longer discourage mask-wearing INSIDE the store. There is still however a sign that states that masks are NOT REQUIRED OUTDOORS, which is puzzling given that the CDC says that the virus is airborne and masks should be worn whenever you can't stay 6 feet away from others. When shopping at this store and everywhere else on Elkhorn it is impossible to stay 6 feet apart. I own property in town and since the 1970s have spent a lot of my year here with family. I care about people being able to safely visit Estes Park. Seems like masks are what allow our small tourist town to work during the pandemic - so why would any shop go out of it's way to tell people they don't need to wear them?
Given the response here from the owner, it seems that if you have concerns about personal safety you should call the shop and ask for delivery, special shopping hours or another potentially inconvenient option. But again, isn't it easier to just buy taffy from one of the other three shops on the block selling taffy that are taking the airborne...
Read moreI have never been so offended and publicly embarrassed in a store in my entire life. We walk in the store with the intention to buy taffy... as soon as you walk in there is a taffy scoop with a sign on it that says "please do not take taffy from the display. ASK for a fresh sample at the counter". So that is exactly what we did. I asked for a fresh piece and the male owner responds, "I prefer if I ask you, if you'd like a piece". I told him his sign said to ask, embarrassed because I couldn't even believe he'd respond that way in a store full of people. He kept going, "it's always better if I ask you". He should change is sign to "wait to be offered a sample" if he is going to respond to another adult that way, especially in front of a store full of people. We left and took our business down the street and purchased a pound of taffy from the other store. The crowd that left the store with us couldn't believe how the man responded to me. So sad, it was a childhood treat but this is the second family who has owned it. We will no...
Read moreI've been coming to this taffy shop for decades. Don't be confused by the imitators all over town: this is the original, and this is the addictingly good stuff. So soft and rich. I have literally never had taffy better than this in my life. The vanilla taffy is to die for, as is the Texas pecan. Do yourself a favor, and when you get that big box of taffy, also get a little bag to treat yourself while you explore Estes Park. We call it our "walking around" taffy.
I was raised on taffy from here, so the first time I had non-Taffy Shop taffy, all I could ask was, "What is this hard, nasty garbage?!" The Taffy Shop has ruined me for all other taffy. I have now converted everyone I know. Luckily, you can order from here and have it delivered all over the US (which is what I did before I moved to Colorado). It stays soft for a surprisingly long time, too, so go ahead and order that big box. Or, like me, move to Colorado and buy...
