Candlewood Suites Fargo-N. Dakota State Univ. by IHG — Hotel in Fargo

On a long run with much driving in the cold, I was thrilled to have found this Candlewood Suites. I picked it off line and it lived up to the reviews I'd read. My stay was brief but long enough to come away impressed. The property was on the way to a job, but I wanted to check in quickly and clean up for work. No problem. The staff member got me in my room quickly and early (lately I've been running into hotels that wouldn't allow early check in). Her efficiency allowed me to relax a little before heading off on another 1.5 hour drive to work. Made a huge difference. It also meant, I had to drive back 1.5 hours so I got back late, with the temperature at 15 below. Again, greeted by a friendly face at the desk, I was back in my room which was so warm and comfortable, I was sitting in shorts and a t-shirt. The room was spotless, which is impressive considering housekeeping has to keep a full kitchen clean in addition to the rest of the suite. Love having a kitchen. I like to pick up my own food on the road instead of fast food and prepare it at my own convenience. They do stock coffee, essential for me, so I could enjoy that the next morning while getting some work done in the room, before getting a quick workout (love a clean fitness center) and loading up for another drive. Almost overlooked the most important thing, the room was quiet and comfortable. Great night's sleep. Having a suite like this always makes me feel more at home. Would be great for a longer stay. I had to stay here due to an emergency in our family. It was located perfectly for my needs. I had multiple issues with key cards not working, and that seems to be a consistent problem because when I was checking in someone else had the same issue. I ended up having that problem multiple times as well during my 5 night stay. Most of the front staff was very sweet, the day gal was short with me one time which I thought was really uncalled for. She also made me wait while she checked someone in and did an entire whole spiel of the property while I stood there with my belongings because my key card didn’t work. She just was not the nicest person, I literally felt like I was a bother in her day. Isn’t this her job? But the lady who checked me in Thursday night was so kind and helpful. The bed was very comfortable, while I was told the property was quiet I was woken up by many noises throughout my stay. The water machine was weird, was told it was touch less but it never worked that way. Wish there was free coffee. The coffee supply in the room was only one bag of regular. But the housekeeping staff was kind and helpful. I wish there had been lotion in the bathroom. I was there in the middle of winter and it was freezing and dry, I had cracked, rough hands, lotion would have been lovely. The free laundry was a wonderful perk. My stay wasn’t supposed to be as long as it was and I needed to wash my clothes, so being able to do that was a blessing. Also the laundry basket in the room was great!
