We stayed in Quinnimont, which was lovely. As an earlier review said, the pictures do not do it justice. The attention to detail in design, quality, cleanliness and aesthetic made this a very special place to stay. We cooked most of our own meals in the well-equipped kitchen, appreciating details like the Brita pitcher in the fridge. We found the bed very comfortable, and the tub and rainfall showerhead delightful. The air conditioning worked splendidly despite the 90 degree weather. Amy and Shawn were welcoming and helpful, a pleasure to interact with. I want to also leave information in this review specifically for travelers like us who have fragrance/ environmental sensitivities, knowing that everyone with sensitivities can be a little different in what affects them. I want to be clear that this info will not be relevant or applicable to the majority of travelers, who will not notice or be affected by scents at all-- but if you need this info you know who you are. For our moderate sensitivities the flat was do-able with modifications + after-care, and we would love to stay again someday if in that area . It was helpful that no air fresheners are used in the unit, and Amy was kind enough to change the HVAC filter right before we got there. The linens and such are washed in a moderately fragrant detergent (less strong than Tide, but definitely perfume-y) - you might benefit, as we did, from bringing your own sheets and pillows for your head. The scent was most concentrated in the throws and throw pillows, less in the sheets and duvet- but still enough that we fared much better after switching over to our own. The towels also were more concentrated in scent. We were OK using them for the short time they were needed, but sensitive folks might consider bringing their own. The bath, shower and hand products are all fragranced (and contain SLS) so we would recommend bringing your own unscented soaps, including dish soap (Mrs. Meyers Basil was provided for dishes) . Despite our sensitivities, we got used to whatever fragrance lingered in the air while there to the point where we did not notice it during our stay. However, now that we are home it is clear that all our clothes as well as bedsheets/ pillows picked it up, and it is more than a single wash could remove. If you have sensitivities you know the drill- air outdoors a few days, soak with vinegar, wash with baking soda; check again and repeat as needed. We did not open the windows because it was consistently 80-90 degrees during our stay, but if at all possible I would recommend opening the windows to air out some of the fragrance that builds up from the linens off-gassing. Overall, it worked for us with our modifications and we are grateful to not have missed out on such unique, inspired and...

I had a friend who went on the Bridge Walk and posted pictures on social media. It looked amazing and I wanted to do it too! I decided the New River Gorge National Park would be my destination for Memorial Day Weekend. I started looking at lodging. I looked at Adventures on the Gorge and ACE Resort. Since they cater to outdoor adventures, they were too campy. I looked at The Resort at Glade Springs. Since our main destination was the Bridge Walk, it was too far way. I looked at the Comfort Inn and that was too boring. I looked and looked. One day, I happened upon an article about Bridge Day. At the bottom of that article was a link to the Lafayette Flats Boutique website. I was so excited! Could it possibly be available Memorial Day weekend?? YES. This was the place. This was JUST RIGHT! So I booked it without even looking at the reviews or reading the rest of the website! Then I got nervous! But my nerves went away because of the great communication by the owners and our first steps into the beautiful historic building.
When we arrived, we were ecstatic with our location. The apartment's artwork was amazing, the bedroom and bathroom so inviting and the size was JUST RIGHT. The details were incredible, down to the "take what you need" bowl in the hallway, the West Virginia art and trail book in the kitchen. I looked at all of the unique artwork in the hallways, read the manual in the living room and learned more about the proprietors. My mom worked for Habitat for Humanity too, so I felt an immediate kinship with Shawn and Amy.
The location of Fayetteville was perfect for everything we wanted to do. It was an easy drive to Long Point, Endless Wall, the National Park Visitor Center and Bridge Walk. It was an easy drive to several of the rafting companies. The community was adorable and the restaurants were delicious.
A couple of years ago, our friends listed their lake home on Airbnb. Because of my attention to detail and extensive travel, they invited our family to stay first and give them a frank review of things that could be improved. As I thank you, I wrote a manual about the area including places to rent boats, grocery stores, restaurants and much more. This is all to say that I have a distinctive eye. The Lafayette Flats Boutique is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. I cannot recommend them enough and will tell anyone who is considering coming to the area...
Read moreOur recent stay at Lafayette Flats was beyond amazing. We stayed in #1 - Nuttall. The flat has everything you could possibly need or want and is decorated with vibrant, whimsical, artistic comfort. The original art in every room is stunning. There was so much to see and do in the area, but I was also happy to be in the flat and enjoy the luxury there. While staying in Fayetteville we had so much fun hiking the trails and exploring the town. Our favorite hikes were the Long Point Trail, the Endless Wall Trail, and the Kaymoor Trail from the Wolf Creek Trailhead. We also took the Bridge Walk Tour - worth every penny - so much fun and the views were priceless. Our guide, Larry, grew up in the area and gave an outstanding tour with tons of information about the bridge and the area with personal anecdotes that made it even more interesting. Our favorite place to eat by far was Pies and Pints. We could have happily eaten every meal there! I highly recommend a visit (or several) - the pizza is divine. Beyond the comfort and beauty of the flat, we were very appreciative of the care that Amy and Sean showed in making sure that we had everything that we needed before we arrived as well as during our stay. I discovered their recently published book, Creating Lafayette Flats, about the renovation of the building and creation of Lafayette Flats on the coffee table at about 11pm one night...at 3AM I was turning the last page. What a story! I highly recommend that you get a copy (you can order it on Amazon) and read it before your arrival - or read it while you are in the flat. Their story is so compelling and well written! It made staying there even more fun to know the history of the building, the renovation process, and the sweat equity and creativity that went into making Lafayette Flats such a special place. We are already looking forward to a...
