One of the most memorable meals I’ve had. This unassuming restaurant is situated near the main intersection in Fayetteville, next to a shuttered Ben Franklin. Grab a menu and a seat. Head to the counter when you’re ready to order. Then wait for the magic happening in the kitchen. They serve an handful of dishes from around the world and do it exceptionally well. (This is not fusion cuisine, as other reviewers have suggested.) Over two nights (it was so good we returned the next night), our family had the pork belly, penne alla vodka, and chicken tikka masala. The chicken practically melted in our mouths. The penne alla vodka is served with prosciutto and is deliciously smoky. (They’ll change up the proteins for you, but I don’t know why you’d mess with perfection.) But the pork belly. I’ve had some amazing meals at some top tier restaurants, but there have been just a few individual dishes that have stuck with me. This is one of them. And it is primarily due to the carrot puree. Silky smooth and perfectly seasoned, the only thing that might make it better is dipping the roasted Brussel sprouts in it. I’m a little over Brussel sprouts on so many menus these days, but I’m glad that didn’t deter me from trying these. They’ll bring you a spoon so you won’t miss a drop of the purée, and you’ll happily grab it. The front of house staff and chef are delightful. When we shared how much I loved the carrot puree, the chef brought me a to-go container of it. He obviously loves to make people happy with his food. As a bonus, we paid far less for this food than we would have in a major city. If we’re anywhere near Fayetteville again, we will certainly be dining...
Read moreWanderlust is an absolute treasure, offering superbly creative cuisine and outstanding hospitality. We were pampered like good friends by both our most personable hostess Marissa and by Chef himself! The recommendations for food and drink were spot on: the suggested craft beer and wine were perfect matches to our meal. We split the beet salad for our starter: the house-pickled beets were beautifully complemented by the sweet creaminess of goat cheese, the crunch of pistachio and a perfectly seasoned vinaigrette. We also shared a pound of the most exquisite mussels: plump and fresh, served in a luscious cream sauce dotted with tasty pancetta. Our mains were equally flavorful: my husband raved about the lamb burger served with perfect crispy fries. My chicken pimentos was a pure delight of tender breast seasoned with a splash of sweetness and cherry pepper heat - a very fun combination! Served with fluffy basmati rice and crispy-broiled Brussels sprouts, this dish hit all the right notes. Every dish was fresh, prepared with care and crafted with the intention to fully wow the palate. Wanderlust is an outright gem of innovative gastronomy and the warmest...
