I booked a room several months in advance for a religious retreat in Fayetteville, NC at Sleep Inn. I have stayed here several times before but this time around the hotel was just uninhabitable. It is a terrible use of the Sleep Inn name and I am going to explain my stay as well as add in photos that were taken at the property. I booked for the night of July 30 and 31st, checking out on August 1. I called to verify and inform the hotel of my late arrival around 5 PM on the date of check in. The late check in and reservation was confirmed. Upon arrival around midnight I was given my room keys by the front desk clerk and proceeded to my room. The room had cockroaches on the floor, a spilled drink with a dead insect in it on the floor as well as live german roaches crawling on the nightstand. I took photos of these and went back to the front desk and informed the clerk as well as showed her the photos. She relayed they had another room with 2 beds in it, but other than that they were sold out. I tried to find another hotel but everything was sold out due to the retreat. Therefore I had no option but to accept the room. Upon walking into the second room the carpet was wet and had a fan blowing on it attempting to dry it. There was a mildew odor as well which they attempted to mask the following day with air freshener. There were holes in the wall where the preexisitng towel from was and had been ripped from the wall. The hair dryer which was supposed to be wall mounted had also been ripped from the wall and placed on the shelf below the sink and had what looked like an exploded sodas residue all over it. The TV stand handles were coming off and when I attempted to open the drawer to look for the laundry bag (which was not in the room at all) the handle came off in my hand. I then opened the ironing board to iron my clothes for the following day which was broken and would not stand up and therefore fell on my foot causing it to bleed. I then crawled into bed after a long drive to find that there was no remote in the room. The telephone also had soda residue on the faceplate. Therefore i called the front desk to ask for a remote which I had to go and get. The clerk on duty had to go through several remotes and several sets of batteries to find a set of batteries that were not dead. I asked for a laundry bag at this point and she did not know what that even was. Furtheremore, there was hair in the shower and dried up hard candy on the baseboard in the bathroom. We then went to sleep. The following day we left early in the morning for the retreat and came back to the hotel around lunchtime. We asked to swap rooms. The manager (nilaak) relayed there were no rooms available however the clerk on duty verified that there was and I took a screenshot from the app also showing that a room was available. The clerk relayed i could not be swapped to that room and if I wanted it, needed to pay $192 and that no discounts could be applied. Meanwhile the same room was online for $177. We proceeded back to our room to find that no housekeeping had been provided, however someone had been into the room, removed the fan that was blowing on the carpet and turned the heat on all the way up to 90 degrees when the weather outside was already 100 degrees. This caused the smell of the wet carpet to become unbearable giving both my wife and I a headache and breathing issues that we are still experiencing 24 hours after checking out. My shoes were also picked up from the floor and placed on the desk. We attempted to turn the AC down and the AC no longer worked. We went out to dinner and along the way told the front desk clerk, who again called nilaak (the manager) who stated he would fix the issues. Upon returning he had replaced the ironing board and replaced the AC cover and sprayed some air freshener, however the odor was still unbearable. We then received a phone call after returning from the clerk stating nilaak said not to adjust the AC temperature because it would stop working again. So we then went from 90 degree heat running in the room to 60 degree AC running in the room causing us to catch a cold and causing us to take Nyquil and Dayquil. When I went to turn the AC off i noticed that the drapes also have mildew growing on them from the condensation of the AC as well as a live spider on the drapes. P.S. There is also a giant hole in the lobby ceiling about 6 feet around that is covered with a trash bag. The front desk clerk I had to interrupt her telephone conversation which was on speaker phone to checkout and the person on the other end of the phone was cursing. I am deeply disappointed with the quality of the establishment and management. My wife is also extremely upset with me for choosing this establishment. I have always been an advocate for Choice Hotels and loyal member, however this has me second guessing my...
Read moreHotel was clean and staff appeared to be friendly. That was where everything changed. We were visiting Fayetteville to see a sick friend and was not sure where their home was so we picked several hotels and chose one that was convenient to our visit. We chose the Sleep Inn over the Econo Lodge across the street because of previous experiences with Sleep Inn. First Mistake since the rate per night was about $19 per night more than the Econo Lodge. When I started the check in I told the clerk we wanted a room for two nights and we also had a 10# Chihuahua Feist mix. The clerk said the room would be $114 plus tax per night and there would be a $45 pet fee for the stay. At this time I showed her the $92 per night rate at Choice Hotels with the total for two nights being approximately $208 for two nights. She made another lower offer but told me I would have to make the reservation on line to get that rate. I said no problem and started making the reservation on my phone. At this point she told me that she had been able to get the lower rate and she could give me the same deal there. I stopped making the on line reservation and she proceeded to complete the reservation and gave me the key cards but no information about the reservation or anything else. The room was clean and I thought all was well. The next day we visited the friends and that evening returned to the hotel to freshen up a bit and get ready to go out for dinner. To our surprise neither of our keys would open the outside door. Had to walk the entire length of the hotel to the office to find out what was wrong. Asked the desk clerk what was wrong and he told me "Only stay for one night". I told him the room was for two nights and he then looked again and said "Oh yes two night" . He then reprogrammed the key cards and we returned to the room. Oh, another point of interest, although we are in our mid seventies we were given a room that was one door short of being as far from the elevator as possible and had to use the outside door and stairs at the desolate end of the hotel. When I went to checkout Sunday morning the clerk took the keys, punched some computer buttons, and said thank you. I then asked if I did not get a copy of the charges and he then printed out a copy of the charges. I did not look closely at it till I got home but found some serious surprises. First, the room was done for one night on 4/5/24 at the $92 rate plus tax and the pet fee for a total of $148.96. Then when the clerk reprogrammed the key cards on 4/6/24 the room was charged again at $123.19 plus tax and the pet fee of $45 was charged again for a total of $184.20. This made the total charged to my card $333.16 for two nights at this Sleep Inn. According to the on line reservation site which the first clerk claimed to to be charging me the room for two nights should have been approximately $208 plus the $45 pet fee for a total of $253. Basically this amounts to this hotel screwing me out of an extra $80 for a two night stay. I am not a frequent traveler but I have been a Choice Hotels member for about 20 years and this is my first bad experience. I have never been treated this way in any hotel I have ever stayed in, either Choice or any other brand. Choice Hotels has always been my first choice in the past but if this is what I can come to expect I guess I need to find another hotel provider...
Read moreWhen we arrived the outside looked inviting with the exception of an overflowing trash can. There was plenty of signage and direction on maps led us there nicely. The room and lobby were clean and inviting. The lobby bathroom was clean and adequately stocked. Our room had a blinking light in the bathroom. The manager mentioned they are changing out switches and offered to change it right then. We said he could wait until we check out. There was a nice storage closet. I noticed there was no facial tissue in the room. They might have provided them if asked. They did provide complimentary razors and shaving cream. We had to plug in the microwave and such. Maybe they forgot to make sure everything was plugged in after they renovated the room. They are setting up a business desk for customers. Since it was not ready yet, the attendant at the front desk was hospitable. She allowed my husband to do what was needed using the computer at the front desk. She turned one of the monitors around so he could complete a needed task. There is nice lounging and workspace inside and out. There are at least 4 spaces to sit and read or have nice conversation in the up and downstairs common areas. The breakfast area would be nice space to get a little art done. The major issues we faced were (1)being charged by the check in attendant because we brought our sons service dog, they promised to refund that..and (2) the breakfast foods were down to almost nothing other than cereals and waffles and a bit of fruit and a couple pieces of bread for toast. Other than regular coffee and the 2% milk for cereal there was nothing to drink. The manager said they would comp us some due to the lack of adequate breakfast as promised by their advertising. They were supposed to get food today. The areas outside the hotel at the back and side opposite of the parking lot allowed for getting into a bit of nature to think. There are grassy areas with natural flowers. There is a cement picnic table out back. There are also cement benches...
