I mainly go here because Academy is there. Academy has it all when it comes to sporting goods, but if you like Levi's 501 jeans they have the best price in town @ $59.99. But they also have Redfield optics at a fantastic price. Redfield and Leupold optics went back and forth for decades fighting for the #1 optics manufacturer in the world until Redfield folded due to poor decisions by management leaving Leupold as the uncontested #1 optics manufacturer in the world. Recently Leupold bought out Redfield including all designs and rights. Leupold is now manufacturing under the Redfield flag and sharing proprietary manufacturing techniques and methods used by Leupold in manufacturing it's own high end optics like those used by the American military and Special forces teams. Recently I picked up a Redfield 4-12×40 for $75 on sale. On top of that the ammo selection, reloading supplies and selection of firearms is great and you can have your firearm purchase from the web shipped to Academy to handle the FFL transfer for a very affordable fee along with your background check. I have also purchased my last 3 pair of work boots there. The most awesome and sexiest black on black on black Sketchers tennis shoes my girlfriend has ever owned I bought her at Academy. They have a large selection of Carhartt clothing and insulated coveralls. And I drool over the Levi jackets every year! They have both the wool lined and the hooded jackets. And finally we bought all my daughter's softball gear there for the 4 years she played. Everything from bat to pitchers mask to helmet and pads, batting gloves, cleats, gear bag, and everything else all came...
Read moreIf you're a long time Pensacola resident, you recall this open air mall (strip mall) used to be a real mall, University Mall. The "new" design is nice with lots of area and a large parking lot. The parking, while there is a plethora, is inconvenient. There are sections of the old mall parking left over and they have MOST of the available spots. The issue with this is the newer stores (Academy, Toys r Us, Burlington, Platos Closet, etc ) are in the MIDDLE of the "mall". Jcpenney and Sears are on either end, both are remnants of University Mall along with about 1/2 of ALL parking for the shopping center. Aside from parking, traffic is an issue. There are lanes that turn off of Davis Highway into the parking lot. Crossing at this section (near Jcpenney) even at the 4 way stop is difficult and often dangerous. Texas Roadhouse, Jimmy John's, Moes, The Broken Egg Cafe, The Simple Greek and Dickeys BBQ are all parallel to Academy and TRU. Its senseless to drive (plus there is inadequate parking unless you're going to Texas Roadhouse) and it doesn't feel safe to walk especially with kids. Maybe a little better design and planning should be considered before calling an area of shops and food an open air market or mall. This is a great conglomerate of many good stores and places to eat, it is not cohesive. By far this is one of the best places to stop if you have people disagreeing about what or where to eat. Shopping is good too. The issues started aren't with the businesses or their owners. The issues fall on the shoulders of the developers, great concept, better execution would make...
Read moreUsed to have a great time here as a kid when it was University Mall. Spent too much time at the Spice Time arcade. Cordova had Picket Change if I recall. It never recovered from hurricane Ivan. The food court was small but had good places. It was the movie place I went to most frequently too. I’m glad that Sears and JC Penny are still here. I had that our Sears might be closing though. JC Penny has been in bad shape for years so there’s no telling what may happen to them. Of course Toys R Us just went out of business. There’s Burlington and some pretty okay food spots. I recall seeing the plans for it a few years in the paper before they started renovating. There were ponds and people in boats, it’s funny how none of...
