If your looking for an awesome place to stay for the night, come visit the Courtland. Your not going to find an elevator, rude housekeeping or any other big time hotel chain issues. We spent the night, we felt like kings, greeted in the upmost personal attention and completely enjoyed our stay. This is a time machine to the early 1900’s, with the amenities of a large hotel chain (internet, indoor plumbing, air conditioning, fresh coffee), but waking up back in time. The staff, which are the owners, work hard to give you the most pleasant experience, personalized, humerus and just great to hang out in. I am sitting outside, resting, quietly in a chair, listening to taps in the far distance of the National Historic site, peaceful and complete serenity. I don’t usually type up this much in a review, and as you see in past hotel reviews, they are generic and bland. This is a diamond, check it out, we will be returning soon on our travels and bypass the norm of big chain hotels in town.

The Courtland Hotel & Spa is a marvelous historic hotel in the Fort Scott Historic Downtown District. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and built in 1906. Renovated historic rooms include all of the modern comforts. We had a couples massage that was exceptional. The long-time local owners are thoughtful and take wonderful care of each guest. The charming rooms are each decorated beautifully. The location is perfect! Lots of unique boutiques and restaurants in easy walking distance. It's also easy walking distance to the Fort Scott National Historic Site "Where the Western Frontier Began!" You'll also want to visit the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes (about a block away). Also recommend the Gordon Parks Museum (across town). All FREE attractions!! The Courtland Hotel & Spa is perfect for getaway weekends! Truly a gem!

This historic hotel is in the heart of downtown Fort Scott, close to everything we did while here briefly for the weekend. The rooms are on 2nd floor, no elevators here, but it's old-time charm is wonderful. Cheryl, the owner, and her daughter were so kind and friendly, made us feel right at home. The room was clean and spacious, even the bathroom was nice sized. Room 1 is in the Southeast corner of the building, near the sign, but I was pleased with it. It was comfortable and cozy. There was a mini-refrig in room and breakfast on main floor in the early morning, 6am. There were nice, high ceilings and even a ceiling fan in the room. The antique furniture throughout the room and building was so cool. It was a very pleasant stay.

I came to accommodate son surgery in Pittsburg, KS. The beds were very hard to sleep on. No padding for comfort after driving several hours from home. Shower curtains smelled soiled and were not clean at all (liner). Power went out approx. 12:08 am I woke up and immediately contacted Frank, member of management. He said that he had made a call I went downstairs to consult with him regarding accommodations to be made for my other two children that were with me but, there was no member on staff at approximately 12:38 am. I can recall the power coming back on at 1:18 am. This morning when checking out I was asked how was my stay. I replied not good and explained why. The attendant told me that her spouse was sleeping downstairs and that she was in the upper part of the hotel. (mind you, when I went to go get help this morning they were nowhere to be found it was pitch black dark. I will never ever stay at this hotel again it was...

I found this place quite charming. If you are looking for a vintage, old time Western American experience, and care about supporting local business, this is your place. Located in the middle of Down Town, walking out of this place gave me the feeling I was in the early 1900's. Yes, my room was small, however considering it was built in 1905, I wouldn't of expected anything different, and they do have larger rooms available if needed. The bed was very comfortable and the room was CLEAN. The owners are local, very sweet and accommodating; They keep the entire place very clean and the coffee was piping hot and ready first thing every morning. They even allowed me to brew my own in the wee hours due to a very early flight. This city girl felt very much "at home." This Hotel will be my "go-to" every time when visiting my daughter and grands...
