San Juan Islands is the place where we can visit twice a yr..and never gets tired of it..It is 7 to 8 hrs drive for us, hauling the boat behind us and pack all the camping gears at the back of the truck., it is enjoying..We goes here during shrimping season and rent a house at Lopez Island in May and camping at Wa. Park, Anacortes, Wa. and crabbing seaon on July with friends and family. We get our license for the season and enjoy what ever we can catch. We cook and Eat all we can. 😋 the best shrimps and crabs I ever tasted. With our boat we can go island to island..Going to friday Harbor to get gas and some boat parts at King Marines, eat fish and chips and of course the Ice Cream! 72 flavors to choose from..I always get the huckleberry flavor..Superman for the kids..cokie dough, pistacious and coconut flavors for other adults..😁..In May shellfish is open too like oysters and muscles...I can get those at Odlin Bay, or at Stewart Island..It is very near to Canada, my cellphone starts welcoming me to Canada.lol😂 Orcas Island store has a good variety of foods too.. Sometimes we will stop there to get sanwhiches and gas. There is a building built like a boat at Rosaio Resort, part of Orcas Island, It is so cool. Roche Harbor is fun to visit also, that is where the biggest, nicest and expensive boats are.. Suscia island is one of the best area to Shrimp and also in Icrberg...just rough but bigger Shrimps..Crabbing is everywhere 30 to 40 feet deep and you can get crabs...unlike shrimping is around 250 to 300ft deep and need a puller to pull up the...

Visiting the San Juan's is an annual trek for us. Some visits are overnight requiring a car, aways make reservations for the ferry. Be prepared for delays, it's part of the experience. Day trips as a walk on passenger are also common, no reservations required.

Outstanding scenery is available out every window on the ferry, maybe even a view of Orca whales. Once you arrive at your destination the land based part of your adventure begins or maybe you decide on whale watching or kayaking. There are lots of options for shopping and food.

If you choose Orcas or Lopez or Shaw Islands transportation will be required. Orcas has bus service to Eastsound where most of the shopping and restaurants are located. There is also a great old hotel at the ferry landing that had a coffee shop, also there is a store there.

If Friday Harbor is your destination the town is right at the ferry landing with lots of shops, tour operators and restaurants. Float plane service is also available from Seattle to Friday Harbor.

Hotel or VRBO accommodations abound and have very good websites to help you find a place to stay overnight.

Day trip or overnight the San Juan's are a favorite of mine. I always want to...

A beautiful building which shows some of the rich history of lopez island. There are few people for the most in the monument and the town most times of the yrar, so you can view the building at your leisure. It's nestled near the center of the lopez island village, so you are close to food, and many shops and fun oddities. You can make a day of it and visit the surrounding area, or make a shor trip and just visit the national monument for a short time. A bonus is the people that live on the island, they are kind and courteous, they make the trip fun, and they are always are quick to explain anything you have a question, they very proud of there heritage and want to share it with...

We were very fortunate to happen upon Encampment 2018 whilst we were here which included an entire period camp complete with Howitzer and flag raising. Otherwise still an interesting piece of history in a park split across two sites (English and American camps). There are a few nice little trails around the sites and some good information boards. The visitor centre includes a good summary video too. All free of charge as well!

A ferry trip to the San Juan Islands is a must if you're visiting Washington state. Ferry's leave Anacortes to various islands in the national monument regularly. There is much to explore on the different islands including historic sites, restaurants, rocky beaches, charter fishing, whale watching and more. Many youth camp programs are also offered at various destinations in the San Juan Islands National Monument.

I love this island except for the ferry schedule. We’ve been waiting for 2 hours for the ferry delay due to a mechanical issue. I then heard from my friend that the delay happens very often. But in general, this is a beautiful island. Will definitely consider to visit again. However, have to mention that the food is fairly expensive comparing to other tourism places.
