I hate to write bad reviews, I REALLY, REALLY do but this small mall (which there's nothing wrong with small malls; one of my favorite malls is only one story in Dallas called "NorthPark Mall!") is just.....it's just pitiful. With the exception of having a JC Pennys (which still had the 1960s IBM cash registers...most I see today have TOSHIBA Point-Of-Sale Registers that look more like a touch computer screen) and a Radio Shack, the mall was either vacant (so many empty stores) or had the typical "last ditch effort" stores like Jose's Belts and Bikes (note: I'm making that name up, of course, to illustrate that this is one of those malls who'll let ANYBODY be a resident...aside from the two aforementioned stores, I didn't see ANY mainstream stores...none I'd ever heard of. Funny enough, they actually had a Cell One Kiosk which was rather odd considering they went defunct (bought out by Verizon OVER 15 years ago in the year 2000). I felt like I had stepped into a sad time machine. I guess the only "Pro" I could add: went there (I was traveling home to California) on a Saturday night around 8pm and literally saw NO customers in the actual mall (I did in those two stores but NOT in the mall itself). As such, it was rather spooky so it'd make a great location for a horror film! LOL but that's the only "Pro" I can give it...
Oh, the Radio Shack did carry the much sought after/popular/incredibly sounding Harman Kardon SoundSticks III Wireless Bluetooth Speaker and Subwoofer System (it rivals Bose, seriously...it should considering it retails anywhere from $250-$300 which includes tax but still, it's NOT one of those sub $100 cheap units for sure!). I suppose that could be considered a "Pro" (vs. a "Con"), right?
Other than that, the ONLY other good thing about this mall was once you left it, across the street they had a very nice and clean Safeway Grocery. Safeway/Albertsons has THE BEST (and cleanest), Most Friendly Staff and Stores of ANY "traditional" grocery store chain in the Western United States (New Mexico*/Colorado to Arizona to California). If you're every shopping for groceries, Safeway/Albertsons is where you want to shop! Also, this location - like many - has a gas station which offers cheaper [price] gas. The "boon" to this is, though it's not "Top Tier" (which DOES MATTER; I KNOW! TRAVELING AS MUCH AS i HAVE!) GAS, you either get points on your FREE Safeway Club Card or the mere presence forces the "Big Boys" like Chevron/Texaco Corp Gas Stations (Techron really does add to your gas mileage!) to lower their prices if they're nearby which is just another great aspect about Safeway/Albertsons! Btw, even though they are the same Corporation, you'll often find a "Safeway" store and "Albertsons" store in the same town. Why they do this when they're the SAME COMPANY, I do NOT KNOW but it IS a fact right now (2016). In fact, funny enough, 3 miles East, Southeast of this Safeway is an Albertsons store! In a town as TINY as Gallup, NM! I find that both ODD and humourous but it is what is is! Even when you look at their pictures online or, moreover, their weekly advertisements (you know, the "sales" brochure for any given week, they say Albertsons/Safeway on them and BOTH stores carry the same adverts! Go figure! Still, it's a great store so enough said! Kroger and it's subsidiaries stores in the Eastern part of America (from I-35 (Dallas, Austin, etc.) East, they are some of the most filthy and overpriced grocery stores you will ever find! 1 star. Safeway/Albertsons, in stark contrast, are, hands down, the Best/the...
Read moreThere's really nothing to do, everything in the mall is mostly shoes or clothing, or phones., and of course the food court. It's more a place for teenagers to hangout and also skip school, and where the drunks and gangs hangout too, which doesn't make it a safe place to be. Many times you'll see the security guards chasing after guys and making sure that they leave the Mall. My wife and I used to walk the mall, but we quit doing it mostly because of the hard floor was hurting our backs and hips. Another thing that we noticed is a lot of stores closing, and the contractor's that are hired to work are from out of town, not local. It's not like any Mall we've ever visited before. We need a Mall that is SAFE, and is attractive for all people, not just the teenagers, and we don't need a bar either but something that will bring the families in, including more stores and more big restaurants...
Read moreI arrived to Rio West mall at 11:33 am. I was rudely informed to leave the mall because it is not open. Rent a cop Harjel then proceeded to escort me to the door stating she has to make sure I leave. I asked for yhe manager and Harjel then stated she is off manager name is Anita. Thank u Rio west mall for the rude treatment. You reminded me why I hardly come to Gallup to shop at the mall. Not every one is a criminal so u need to train your staff on customer service politeness and not to stero type.
There is no mall walking unless you register.i am sitting my car observing. I have seen two families with kids and several other people including couples enter the mall. It is 11:41 am as...
