I am a disabled woman. I do not need to explain my medical condition. I will say I can NOT walk up or down stairs. This is important for what I'm about to say. We chose this hotel for the hot tub and pool. Aqua therapy for my medical condition. We check in at 4pm for check-in. We originally requested an ADA room when we booked online. When we arrived they said we were in a regular room and asked to be switched. Side note: The front desk had ZERO personality and was very placid at best. We were told that we could get switched to ADA room that night, but would need to come to desk every morning to try again, which may or may not allow us to stay in this room. ANNA (oh... Remember Anna) came over and said to just override it so we didn't have to do this. Awesome. Thank you Anna, this is where the props to Anna end. We get to our room. It reeked of mold and smoke. There was a big stain on the floor, which turned out to be water from the leaking vent above. Which dripped on us everytime we went under it Night one: eager for that hot tub, with ADA lift. Aaaand the hot tub is empty with cones all around it. Why not advertise that the hot tub is down? But. The pool is open. With a lift. Aaaand the lift doesn't work. We go to the desk, and utter annoyance radiates from Anna and the young guy from check in. Basically "we won't do anything, but they will in the morning." The bed is too high for a handicapped person to get into. We almost left night 1. But tried to give the benefit of the doubt. Morning 1, day 2: speak to the morning staff and the ADA lift just needed a battery. It was installed. Used it once to get in and out no problem. Get back to the room, notice the vent leaking worse. Go to the desk to tell them and get "that's not good someone can fix it in the morning. ALWAYS PASSING THE BUCK to the next shift. After dinner we go back to the pool, chair lowers me in. When it was time to go, the chair doesn't work. I can't do stairs. So using stairs was not an option for me. Also, I can't pull myself up and out. Very limited mobility. My boyfriend runs to the desk and says "your chair stopped working and my girlfriend can't get out of the pool". Our dear Anna replies with "well it was working earlier" great. It isn't now. She returns with my boyfriend, and implies my boyfriend is stupid and tries the button. Shocker, I'm still not moving. She calls maintenance. "Nobody can come this late just for this". JUST FOR THIS???? I AM STUCK IN YOUR POOL! Then she says she needed to call non emergency fire. UTTER HUMILIATION. 4 medics/fire plus my boyfriend physically holding me up and moving my legs for me to get me up the stairs and out. I don't know what was worse, the pain from moving in ways I can't or the complete mortification I felt. While this is happening, a fire fighter tries to exit the MARKED emergency exit and can't get out. Looks at our young male desk Clerk. He says "oh sorry it doesn't work" TO A FIREMAN! The fire man points to the sign above the door and says "that's a really big problem". I am sobbing from pain and embarrassment. No remorse or compassion. Same young male says GM John would be in at 11pm and would definitely talk to us. 11:15 no John. He was sick. Only decent human in this place was night clerk Neko. Who had to deal with us, a very intoxicated guest passed out on the lobby couch and a female high on drugs trying to "check in". Neko said our room was entirely comped. Which is appreciated, but this is far beyond a monetary problem. We were told to call John in the morning. We left immediately. Tried calling John in the morning. Anna answered. Realized who I was and said "he already comped the room what's the problem? " I start answering. She said she would send me to John's voicemail. SHE STARTS LAUGHING AT ME AND HUNG UP ON ME!!!!
This is how you treat people? Especially a handicapped person with very valid reasons to be...
Read moreWe had a terrible experience staying at Wingate by Wyndham Greenwood for a family vacation. When in line to check-in, a hotel guest collapsed, and we were asked to wait outside while they tried to resuscitate her for an hour and 15 minutes. We absolutely understand that this isn't the hotel's fault. They were extremely apologetic when getting us to our room and talked about their plan to speak to the manager regarding a discount, but we never heard anything about it again.
Online we told the hotel we are a family of five. It appeared online that there was a sleeper couch in the room. There wasn't. When asked, they brought up the fact that the website is misleading and apologized. They said they have roll-away beds, but they are in high-demand and may not have any available. Don't allow more people that need roll-aways to reserve rooms than the amount of roll-aways you have. Fortunately, we were able to get a roll-away bed, but we had to ask a second time before we actually got one.
The first thing we did after finally getting to our room was to go swimming. The website claims the hotel has a heated pool. It was not heated in the slightest. The hot tub was closed, unfortunately. Thankfully we swam that first night, though, because the next day the pool was closed for repairs with no notice about how long. We checked each day, to be disappointed. When we asked the front desk when the pool would be open, they responded, with excitement, "In August! We're re-doing the whole thing!". That's great for the hotel and future guests, but it really sucks to not have access to a pool on a family vacation, especially when one was advertised. The hotel should have let guests know that were reserving for this time period, and they definitely should have apologized for the lack of advertised amenities. They should have offered an alternative or a discount! So disappointing!
All three floors of the hotel have signs advertising ice machines. None exists on the third floor. There is one on the second floor, but it doesn't work. The one on the first floor is in the kitchen that hotel guests aren't to go in. The night hotel staff informed us that we are allowed to go in, but the day kitchen staff got angry at us for going in there and instructed us that we must find and wait for them to get the ice for us.
I will never stay at a Wingate by...

Personally, I felt like this was a high tier hotel. Very spacious room, friendly front desk staff, big lobby, big free breakfast area, coffee always out with 4 syrups, after 2 pm: free popcorn and little chocolates, lovely decorating! Super quiet business area, easy parking right there.
I found the bed to be comfy with nice pillows. 2 mirrors in the room and one in the bathroom. Just so roomy! Two desktop chairs and one super comfy chair. Lots of outlets to plug things into. Stairs designed for people who don't take the elevator. Nice handrails on either side and exit doors onto each floor. 1st floor door to outside too. Looks like some apartment houses and so maybe corporate rentals, or people live there. Plus several people walking dogs.
And, one thing I super appreciated was on the luggage carts, there were nice labels for pull here, and pull from this end. The other end said push this end. It made it so easy. Typically, I am always challenged to know which end to push and pull and then I get out of the elevator and it changes. I just looked at the label this time! So helpful!
At breakfast, in the refrigerator they had diet cranberry juice, almond milk, and coconut milk. The apple juice, and orange juice dispenser also had mango juice! You could make waffles or pancakes. Their toaster was really cool. The eggs, potatoes, and sausage (I think andouille!) were good. Many condiments including Chilula sauce, some other hot sauce, and standard condiments.
Currently they're off season, so was able to get the room with tax for less than $115. At breakfast someone told me if you were with T-Mobile, you could get a big discount. She paid $89 including tax! In the next week or two they will go to their summer rates which are $283 a night. Right next to the music venue.
Highly, highly...
