We were in town for Hearsefest. It is a family tradition we go to every year. We checked in Friday night I think around 9 or 10 and had a very brief chat with the lady at the front desk. She said something along the lines of don't they have anything like that for you guys in Indiana, I have trouble sometimes reading people's vibes so I thought she sounded a little snippy with that question but I honestly just thought that was me, but my sister said she was kind of rude don't you think? I was like I did but I just thought it was me. My sister's a complete sweetheart and she usually just tags along with Hearsefest because it's a family thing and we also go to Bronner's in Frankenmuth. We get to the room and it wasn't real bad, the beds were very comfortable imo. But there was a hole in the shower wall, not a big deal, just stuck a rag in it for my peace of mind. The card key however was not working at all at first and took multiple tries to get it to open the door. We left and checked out Saturday morning and I asked for my deposit back and was told there was blood all over in the sink. Not true what so ever. I did have pink hand soap / body wash but even that wasn't in the sink!! We checked everything and made the beds before leaving! I got $30 of my deposit back. I did call back a few minutes ago and spoke with the manager who seemed decent enough. He said I was charged a $50 dollar deposit because they thought we were shady and they usually only charge a $25 deposit. Me and my sister were not rude what so ever at check in. I have no idea why they would say / do that?? He did say they have cameras with audio and he can hear what was said so hopefully he does check them because we were polite to the lady. Now when I checked out I will admit I was not happy and said they'd be getting a bad review. This review is way nicer than it would have been had I not talked to the manager because he seemed alright although he sears I goty full deposit back and I did NOT. At one point he did get attitude and say will what was would you like me to do about it? I said I don't know?? Maybe talk to your workers about being nicer and not judging people? He also told me they said there was blood in the sheets not the sink but my brother in law came in with me eventually at check out and I asked him a few minutes ago did they say blood in the sink or the sheets? And he said they said it was in the sink, I said the manager said it was in the sheets and he said no they definitely said sink. I'm just confused. On why we'd be judged and the sink issue. Hopefully he'll talk to his workers about judging people who do nothing to deserve it. Reading some other reviews though where the deposits had been stolen or a poor woman's money not refunded that had health issues makes me sad. So I guess all the deposits that were stolen or the money that wasn't refunded was from all shady people? I've never had a bad experiance at a hotel so I never read reviews and I guess trust they'll be nice too freely. I've learned my lesson. I will be checking from now on. One simple look at their reviews and I would not have stayed there. All in all don't stay here people. It's just not a risk I'd take. I was so happy I had found a room so close to Hearsefest and was surprised they weren't all booked up. However I think I found out why. Will definitely be driving the extra 20 minutes next year to Hearsefest vs staying here again.
Edited a couple times for spelling and forgot to mention the part where he asked me what Id like him to...
Read moreUnless you HAVE to stay in this hotel, it's probably best that you don't. I agree with previous reviews regarding the many flaws of this property and management. || My partner and I requested to change rooms due to an awful acrid burning smell stemming from the air conditioner. When we conveyed our concerns to the female manager at the front desk, we were met with a confused face and an accusation of "And I bet you've used everything in the room already? All the soaps and towels and you've probably had a shower. Now I have to set that back up for another guest and you'll use everything up in another room costing me more money!" I responded with the facts yet again. That we were in the room for 45 minutes relaxing after a 8 hour travel day and did not do anything she had accused us of. That we simply wished to be moved to another room to avoid the odor. ||We were begrudgingly moved to another room after this unnecessary and off-putting argument. It's been my experience that hotels are happy to accommodate a room change where available. Not argue with you and accuse you of messing up the place. Our new room was rougher than the first. Cigarette stains on the bath tub, small mystery stains on two pillows and carpet's that I didn't feel comfortable walking on with my bare feet. But to avoid that kind of argument with the woman at the front desk again, we sucked it up and had a great visit with family in Fowlerville. ||After seeing two rooms in this establishment both had the following shared traits: |- a dampness that will not go away when you turn on the A/C. sheets and carpeting are always wet to the touch.|- an old cigarette smell|- old and sometimes dingy furnishings.|- carpets that are probably cleaned but have been in the establishment far before the currently owners purchased the place making the room feel dirtier than it probably is. It's uncomfortable. change your carpets out.|- doors that do not sit well into their frames making any sound from outside feel like it's inside and any cigarette odor leak into your room. You don't sleep well here when the hotel is full.|- cigarette stains on tubs|- stained linens you're nervous to use.|- water stained and peeling gray wallpaper||All of the above are things that I have experienced in hotels, guest houses and motels around the world as well as in the USA. Small businesses struggle and I get that it can be costly to keep up with the smaller details of several rooms. But a few needed health related tune ups (mould inspections, carpet and wall paper changes to their rooms) as well as some MAJOR training in hotel guest service expectations wouldn't go amiss here. ||This establishment could really be so much...
Read moreI had made a reservation for 2 nights but 2 days before I arrived I changed it to one night stay. When I walked into the office for check in the smell of spice was overwhelming. I understand the owner suite is connected but it was really intense. At first he couldn't find my reservation even though I offered the confirmation number. He found it and checked me in and I again confirmed it was for one night. I had a room with one king bed. The room did not smell like the office which I appreciated. There is some splotchy wallpaper and I could still see marks of something on the wall. I used the shower but the handle was broken and it made operating the control a bit difficult. When I tried to find a plug to plug in my phone charger, I could find only one plug on one outlet on one side of the bed to use. The plugs elsewhere in the room (near the desk and by the door) wouldn't support the weight of the charger and kept falling out of the wall. I mentioned this when I checked out and was told they use those plugs when they clean and they had no problem. She didn't understand what I was trying to say. |When I pulled back the sheet and blanket it looked like there was another sheet so I reached to pull that down and I realized they had used a flat sheet on the mattress instead of a fitted sheet. The mattress pad looked like a piece of brown cardboard and the bed was hard as a rock and the pillows were soft and mushy. It did not lend itself to a good night's sleep. |When I checked my credit card statement I was initially charged for both nights. They did process a refund but when I called them they said because I made the reservation online it automatically processed a payment for both nights and that was done automatically. I've never experienced that in my travels before.|I normally stay at another hotel when I'm in the area (3-4 times a year) but had to stay here because it was graduation weekend. If that were to happen again, I'd definitely change my travel plans or stay home rather...
