While looking at reviews for Highlands the ones I saw for 200 Main were for the Old Mountain Lodge - which if you have stayed there you know was in very bad condition.
The 200 Main my wife Marty and I stayed at for four nights is at the same location but is a 100% total restoration by the family that owns the luxury Old Edwards Inn and just opened in June of this year. We stayed there in July and the kinks, if any are all ironed out and we loved it. As our Italians friends say "La Sorella di Old Edwards Inn" which loosely translated means Little Sister of Old Edwards Inn.
To call 200 Main a motel is like referring to the Mona Lisa as a picture. Yes it has the convenience of a motel but the care and attention to decorative details given to each room at 200 Main makes it the second best place to stay in Highlands at prices beginning as low as $110 and ranging up to $165 for the King, Balcony, Fireplace - a bathroom with two sinks, heated marble floors and a huge shower - which in our view is a true luxury room and absolutely the best value in all of Highlands, NC.
In addition to well appointed rooms at every price point 200 Main offers well landscaped grounds, mountain views, a new and heated mineral water swimming pool, the Terrace Room, which is a great meeting place for friends and family and our personal favorite - the Fire Pit where we sat in the evenings and enjoyed the cool mountain air and the warmth and mystery of an open fire.
As a guest of 200 Main you have access to lunch and full golfing privileges at the private Old Edwards Club. The drive east on 64 through the mountains is enjoyable and upon arrival at your private club for your stay you will enjoy a true mountain golf experience. Even if you don't golf but just ride along - the back nine at Old Edwards has the absolute best views in Western NC. We haven't seen the colors yet but they must be spectacular from the highest points in Macon County.
Whether your trip to Highlands is for one night or a week or more 200 Main is just a five to ten minute walk from everything in town and will allow you to comfortably enjoy your mountain experience at the best prices in Highlands and...
Read moreMy wife and I were looking for the perfect getaway weekend. Somewhere quiet/peaceful but not too far away from the town. We knew that 200 Main was the right choice the minute that we walked in the door and were greeted by Juanna. Not only was she incredibly welcoming but she made us feel right at home. The only other time that we have felt this way would be at all inclusive resort in Jamaica; 200 Main feels just like that. Juanna and the rest of the staff deserve all the recognition because their hard work and their dedication for making sure people have the best stay possible really shows. I was especially impressed that my Special order of “Bubbly Champagne with Chocolate covered Strawberries,” which was a surprise for my wife, was delivered promptly and ahead of time so that it was already in the room right before checking in. For the curious consumer it was delicious and was devoured in minutes. The room was always in pristine condition especially after the maid service would come through. It always smelled like home every time we would come through the door.
200 Main is also in the best location if you want to truly experience the Highlands. You can keep your vehicle parked outside of your room and you are in walking distance of a ton of different/unique restaurants. When you are thinking about somewhere to stay in the Highlands of NC, “200 Main” should be your Main and only choice. We can’t wait to come back and bring our families with us. To the owners/managers of 200 Main you have an incredible staff of people and a truly special place. Thank you so much for making our trip one of the most memorable ones we have...
Read moreWe stayed at 200 Main in Highlands for my best friend's wedding, and I can honestly say this was possibly best hotel experience I’ve ever had.
From the moment we arrived, everything felt a step above even the nicest chain hotels. I was skeptical about the 2 stars and I can’t for the life of myself figure out how this is a 2 star hotel… It truly felt like we were staying in a luxurious 5 star hotel. Little touches made a big difference — like the fact that they use Molton Brown bath products (a personal favorite we also use at home!). Not just any hotel carries MB — such a special detail! Nespresso in the rooms, a FULL spread of Harney and Sons tea in the lobby for your morning, and great wine/beer/seltzer selection to kick off your evenings!
We had a king room with a balcony overlooking the fire pit and waterfall — and it was AWESOME. Cozy, relaxing, and beautiful.
But what really sets 200 Main apart is the people. The team genuinely cares about your experience and goes out of their way to make you feel at home. Joanna, the manager, and Emma at the front desk were absolute gems. My fiancé and I are still talking about them two weeks later — how funny, kind, pampering, and helpful they were all weekend long.
We felt like part of a family here, and I can’t praise this...
