I work out of Athens GA and was at Bascom to host a wedding and reception at this location. Not only did I escape the 92°F temps and 65% humidity of Athens, but I also got to enjoy the scenic landscape of the Appalachian Mountains while I was there. The Bascom is seated in a beautiful valley area just outside Highlands NC which is a town worth bragging about if you like small towns with a big town feel. But this isn't the place. The Bascom is a great place for the artist to flourish, the tourist to shop, and the passerby to relax while enjoying the vista. I was there for an event. Many others are there for art. Either one is a great reason to be there. Mrs. Naomi will attest to this as she helps you to get to know the place. It will always be one of my favorite...

When we went they had a very nice artist in residence exhibit of black and white photos from local nature which was great to see. They also had an exhibit on a family of bowl turners which was impressive due to the scale of the pieces on display. If you go, you won’t be...

There is a nature walk through the grounds - there are various art sculptures installations along the way and the path leads you to a stream where there is a covered porch area you can sit and listen to the running water. It was so peaceful. They have a retail store that features local artists filled with so many unique items! There are a few galleries/ exhibits and the majority of the pieces were for sale. We enjoyed walking the garden and viewing the three exhibits in the main building. They also offer classes for adults and children. Everyone we met was very friendly...
