A respite from the crowded retail jungle that is this part of Waikiki; an open-air haven with second floor street view or option of indoor seating in this welcoming dining establishment. Host station is downstairs manned (or personned) by considerate folks who encouraged me to take my time (a couple of extra minutes) going upstairs to ensure that I got happy hour pricing. Dining is upstairs (by stair or elevator), and the magic begins with the first aloha from the attentive staff at the secondary greeter station. Matt, my server, graciously offered the menu, the specials, and the opportunity to order any of a wide variety of beverages. I chose my favorite drink, unsweetened iced tea and was delighted with the fruity wonder of the mango-passion fruit tea MBC serves. Matt did not let my glass get dry, which is server-artistry on the master level. Even with the keen attention to my drink, I felt no pressure to hurry and order and eat. MBC exudes a chill atmosphere, a "be at your leisure because we are taking care of you" vibe that really did allow me to rest and enjoy my meal and the setting. Live music began playing shortly after my arrival and the beauty of this experience leveled up tremendously. With the acoustical backdrop, a fresh iced tea, and the fish tacos (aka a tastebud extravaganza) before me, I set about destroying the work of art that had been served to me. Camera-ready tacos too pretty, too colorful, too wondrous to touch, and yet I was compelled to do my part to complete the interactive portion of lunch by supporting the ultimate purpose of the chef's culinary craft. I was not disappointed. Nor will you be in your choice to dine at Maui Brewing Co. Waikiki. So do it first, don't save it for last, because you will want to come back and try those nachos you saw someone order, or that other special that was mentioned. And bring friends, because happiness is always best shared!

We had a fantastic late dinner experience here. It was tough getting in...the host outside said they were no longer taking anyone else in for the night...bummer as we'd walked a ways to get her. He told us we could go up and order takeout....We chose to do that...When we got up there were plenty of empty tables available in the multiple dining spaces they have. (You order at the counter and then take a seat with a number.) Just to double check we asked the person who took our order if we could sit after being told we could only do takeout. He answered "once you've made it to this side of the door, you're welcome to sit." So ding one star for the strange, unwelcoming experience at the downstairs front host-desk who seemed to not be in sync with what was happening on the actual dining floor...otherwise the food we got was fantastic. I had the Origami Pizza which was perfectly basic (crust, sauce, fresh mozzarella)...perfectly done in every way...SUPER thin crust (okay maybe it could have used a tiny bit more salt), and everything else full of flavor. This was easily one of the most satisfying pizzas I'd had in a while. My wife got the Simple Greens with Veggie Burger...it's a house-made, grain-filled patty which she thought was well cooked an a nice addition with a macadamia nut crunch (so local feel.) She thought the greens tasted great too, as was the dressing, though slightly overdressed. They're nice enough to label their menu with prominent and colorful V's for vegetarian items an GS's for Gluten sensitive items, and we always appreciate the extra "welcome" we feel when our diets are well represented on menus. We weren't drinking tonight, but if we were we would have had PLENTY of choices of house-brewed beers, cocktails and wines on tap. We'd definitely come back.

My girlfriend and I had arrived to Maui Brewing, for the first time, right at sunset which was lovely. The live music was a very nice touch. We only had the intention of getting some drinks but the menu definitely caught our eye so we decided to have dinner as well. We did have to ask for water 3 times and a couple more times after for refills. To start, the beers we had were great. The variety to their "Limited" draft list was perfect for all types of beer drinkers. She had the Power Pose sour and I, a flight of different IPAs and pales. The sour was smooth with the ideal balance of sweet and tart. Each IPA/pale was better than the last, perfectly hopped and bitter with smooth finishes all around. My girlfriend ordered the fresh catch fish tacos which was with Blue Marlin. She enjoyed the tacos but the flavor from the Marlin was extremely mild, not sure if it was due to how it was cooked. She ended up enjoying the rice more than the tacos but overall was satisfied with her dish. Unfortunately, our experience slightly began to decline from there. For my dinner, I ordered the Jalapeño Bacon burger. On the menu it read "housemade jalapeño bacon, fried avocado, jack cheese, cilantro mayo". All of those ingredients peaked my interest so I was severely disappointed when my burger arrived with one piece of bacon folded over, three small chopped jalapeños and the only small fried avocado pinned to the top of the burger. The description of the dish led me to believe it would have had more than just the bare minimum of the listed ingredients. Especially for an $18 burger (that only comes with fries for an additional $4), I expected to get my bang for my buck. Ultimately, the burger itself in flavor was mediocre. There's a lot of potential here but it fell flat in my opinion. I also got a side of the guava BBQ sauce which was lacking in both guava and BBQ, extremely bland. Our server was friendly and polite but had only checked in on us once between us ordering dinner to receiving our bill. Towards the end of our meal, it took a decent amount of time for our server to come back around with our bill. It ended up being no issue but it rubbed us a bit the wrong way when we ended up without an itemized receipt for a $70+ ticket. Overall, a bit of a disappointment. We loved the beer and the atmosphere but the 'dinner' experience was not nearly as enjoyable. Both of us are in the industry so we don't have unrealistic expectations but there was quite a bit left to be desired. We will continue to enjoy the beer out on our adventures but we would not return for the food.

Great beer and pretty good food. Amazing ambiance and location! I am a big fan of breweries. They are a great place to enjoy a pint, some local flair, and but my daughter refers to as “bar food“. The casual atmosphere appeals to us. Maui brewing company is located on Kalakaua in downtown Waikiki. The location is fantastic, and the entryway is unusual. You either take an elevator up, or climb what seems to be too many stairs. Either way, you were greeted with a bar and dining area that is well-designed and a whole lot of fun. You can hear the bustle below, but you are removed enough from it that it is not distracting. Maui beers are pretty straightforward. They are big swell IPA is a simple, Hoppe beer. The Pilsner is decent. Generally speaking, most of their beers are predictable but tasty. If you go off the standard menu, and ask for some of the more exotic brews, then you are in for a big surprise! I tasted the “Mosaic Mo Betta” and was pleasantly surprised with a full, rich beer that had a great nose and delicious finish. It is one of the best Maui brewing company beers I have ever had. And I’m a huge fan of the Coconut Porter. The food was lackluster. It wasn’t bad, but it really wasn’t very amazing either. The french fries and calamari are pretty straightforward. Exactly what you would expect. The fish tacos are predicable but look like probably one of the more tasty items on the menu. Fresh and flavorful. The fish and chips, while being exactly what I would expect, our predictably heavy and greasy. The staff is helpful, polite, and often fun. Live music punctuated our stay, and I enjoyed my time there. I’ll definitely return. Fun stuff!!!

If you absolutely have to go there, make sure you ask for an itemized bill before paying—don’t get scammed! We almost paid 48 (40+tips) for two 13 dollar drinks. We went during happy hour and ordered two $13 drinks, which should have totaled $26 before taxes and tips. When it came time to pay, I asked for the bill. Instead of giving us a detailed receipt like every other restaurant, the waitress Anisha simply told us the total was $40 and asked for our card. That obviously didn’t add up—how could two $13 drinks add up to $40? So, I insisted on seeing the itemized bill. Turns out, they charged $16 for each drink instead of $13, then added a 20% gratuity for us without disclosure, and still expected a second tip on top of that. The gratuity wasn’t mentioned anywhere on the menu before we ordered, wasn’t disclosed to us when it was charged. And they tried to hide it by not showing us the bill. It only became clear when I insisted on seeing the itemized bill. That’s fraud. I would’ve left a big tip if they had been honest and transparent. The whole experience left a really bad taste. Do they really need to scam their customers like that? This scam probably works really well if you have a bigger group, or if you order a lot of stuff. No one can do the math that quickly in their head. All the people here complaining about this place being extremely overpriced, I wonder how many of them were simply scammed. When you go there, make sure you read your itemized bill carefully. Don’t let yourself get scammed like we almost did.

Maui Brewing in Waikiki has a really cool vibe and a great location—central, easy to get to, and with a fun, open-air atmosphere. It’s definitely a spot that draws you in with its laid-back energy and solid beer list. That said, the overall experience was a bit mixed. Our server was just okay—not very helpful when it came to recommendations, which was a little disappointing given the extensive menu. At one point, someone else (maybe a bartender or another server) brought my husband his drink and was fantastic—super knowledgeable and really helpful in finding a beer he enjoyed. That interaction stood out in a good way. The food, unfortunately, was just okay. Not bad, but definitely overpriced for the quality and level of service. It didn’t quite match the cool setting or the prices on the menu. One highlight was the live music—they had a great band playing, and that really added to the atmosphere. It made for a fun evening overall, even if the food and service didn’t fully meet expectations. If you're going for the beers and the music, it’s worth a visit. Just go in knowing that the food and service may not be the main attractions. I may even recommend sitting at the bar instead of grabbing a table.
