I had nowhere to stay and it was only for the night. Every other hostel on the block was taken and they had one bed free. It was in a room with two other guys...I was desperate so I took it. I think it was about $75 including the 35 dollar key deposit ||I got to the room and one of the guys said he couldn't speak to me and was praying on his mat. He had festy scabs all over him. He got up and lit up his joint and offered it to me 10mins later. Not for me so I left and went for a walk. ||||Upon coming back, I went to walk to my room to find two police officers trying to take some man away who was trying to beat his girlfriend. I didn't want to get caught in the middle of it so went downstairs to watch TV with the manager whilst a huge racket was being made. ||Literally 20mins later paramedics showed up to take this drug addict away who had flipped her switch because she skipped her "medicine" intake for the day.||I thought this was crazy and was making jokes with the people sitting next to me. They seemed a bit strange and after a little while, they got up and walked out. "Where are they going?"||Apparently they were HOMELESS people just visiting for a bit!!||||Hahaha, well boring this place is not. It's filthy, it's eventful, full of very different people...apparently it's what you pay for. I stayed up until about 3AM singing and drinking with the manager and having a good time. I would've given this place one star, but the management here was just so lovely. They definitely went out of their way to make sure I (especially being a solo female traveller) felt as safe as they could make it. I'd never stay here again, but I'd pop in to see management if they're there for sure. ||Also, my roommates were nice enough to wipe down my cling wrap covered bed with disinfectant and the other female roommate I was told about who comes knocking at about 4AM and stands in the middle of the room naked (she's crazy too) didn't decide to show up. So that...

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.||||Compromising your health and safety is not worth saving a few bucks.||||I notified the hostel management that we encountered bed bugs, roaches and criminals walking around the building 24/7 and they could care less how our stay was. They said we should have notified them the day we checked out, but we took the key to the front desk and left as fast as we could the next morning, even before management came in again at 7am! We were scared to be there one more minute, however, could not call police as an actual crime did not occur - yet.||||There is no security at this building, and walking to and from our room, we had to weave around people hanging out in the stairwells and were even approached by several people who wanted to borrow money, get a date, or just plain trying to find out information about us. They all looked ghetto and criminal, I felt like I was in a housing project, not a hotel!||||JUST DON'T DO IT. Oh, unless you're looking for a prostitute or tryna buy or sell drugs. Then I guess...
Read moreI stayed one night. It was without reservation. They insist in taking cash for the deposit (as much as the bed), but they'll take card for the bed itself.
They mix long-term and short-term occupants. I ended up in a room that was obviously predominantly long-term. The bathroom was a mess and in disrepair - I was given special instructions on using the water handle so it wouldn't fall off.
Unlike the Polynesian Hostel up the block, folks were up, moving around, talking, and partying until at least midnight despite having posted quiet hours at 10PM.
It may be a small touch, but I appreciated it a lot in other hostels. The beds here didn't have any kind of protective cover aside from the sheets they issue.
AFAIK, there were no lockers or secure storage for valuables.
The good I can say about the place is that they did hold the room for me by telephone without payment. They verified that I was who I told them on the telephone before giving me the room...
