STAY AWAY! My girlfriend, her family, and I stayed at this Best Western for a wedding. Being my first time in Wisconsin, I was excited to experience the hospitality I've heard about. However, this hotel did not meet those expectations. We arrived early and were informed of a $20 early check-in fee, which I agreed to, despite never encountering this fee at other hotels. When checking in, I noticed a clause that stated a fee of half a nightly rate if arriving before 11 a.m. Since we checked in at noon, I wanted to confirm that we would only be charged the $20. The front desk couldn't clarify this, but I decided to discuss it later.
Everything was fine until my girlfriend returned from Target. As she walked into our room, I was woken up by a call from the manager, Becca. She rudely told me to remind the “skinny blonde girl in my party not to kick the elevator button." Still groggy from being woken up, I didn’t fully understand what she was talking about but agreed to pass the message along. I then inquired about the fee, but Becca became angry and insisted that it was on the form I signed. I explained I only read about the check-in before 11 a.m. and wanted clarification since we checked in at noon. She told me to come down, so I agreed.
I asked my girlfriend what happened, and she explained she pushed the elevator button with her toe since her hands were full. This seemed reasonable, especially since she's a law enforcement officer. When I met Becca, she explained the $20 fee again. I mentioned that the fee wasn't clearly listed, and I wanted to ensure the correct amount was charged. Becca sarcastically wrote "customer pays $20" on the sheet and asked if I understood now. I replied that I was still unclear but would pay regardless and suggested clearer communication in the future.
I also addressed the phone call, stating that I didn’t appreciate how she spoke to me, especially since I was unaware of the situation. If she was watching the cameras, she should have seen that my girlfriend did not kick the button maliciously. My girlfriend joined us in the lobby, and Becca became even more aggressive. After expressing our dissatisfaction, Becca told us to find somewhere else to stay and refused to provide contact information for a higher authority. We gathered our belongings and moved to a better hotel. Other members of our party also switched hotels after experiencing similar rudeness from Becca, resulting in 1000’s in lost revenue for this location.
Overall, this experience was completely uncalled for. I never raised my voice or disrespected Becca or any staff. I’ve traveled to over 20 countries and 13 states, staying in Best Westerns worldwide, and never have I encountered such unprofessionalism. Based on other reviews, it seems this isn't an isolated incident. I’ve contacted Best Western corporate to investigate further. Avoid this hotel if you value respectful and...
Read moreUpdate to owners response - I contacted them after they stated in their response that we received a 40% discount. They stated that 20% of that discount was what we received at the time of booking, for being a member and booking online. This is very misleading as they make it sound like we were offered 40% for our troubles and the state of our room and hotel. So as stated in my review we received a 20% discount for all the things we had to bring to there attention!
Original review- I would never stay at this hotel again and I would never recommend this hotel. This hotel was filthy. Upon checking into our room, there was coffee splatters, spaghetti splatters and other gross stuff on the walls. Nothing was dusted, food splatter on couch, and something gross on the bed skirt. The bathroom floor was dirty and sticky and the baseboards around the toilet were filthy with hair and urine. Immediately went to front desk, was offered a different room. Upon inspection of that room, it was just as dirty and smelled bad. We asked to speak with a manager but were told they wouldn't be in untill the next day. We chose to stay in our original room and have housekeeping attempt to fix the problems. Further into our evening, we realized it was not just our room that was dirty, but the whole hotel. Dust, dirt, and grime on alot of the surfaces, pool floor filthy, dirt and grime in hot tub and pool, hot tub jets don't work, garbage in the breakfast room overflowing with breakfast garbage, still not emptied at 8:30pm. We were so grossed out by the lack of cleanliness of this hotel that we were not even comfortable eating breakfast or drinking coffee from this establishment, we went to the gas station down the street to get coffee. Upon checkout we asked to speak with the manager again, manager came out in a see-through shirt with black bra, pink blazer, camo pants, slide sandals with no socks, very unprofessional in my opinion for a best western plus. Upon explaining the lack of cleanliness and showing pictures, we got a lot of excuses on why the hotel was not clean, but we're offered a 30% discount and were only given 20%. Our room was just over 200.00 and we received a 40.00 refund. After receiving our new receipt, they apologized for our stay and any inconveniences and asked us to please not write a review. Sorry for the review, but after being lied to about the percentage of discount and after speaking with the manager who really did not seem to care about the state of their hotel and would just rather make excuses then accept the fact that things needed to be addressed and changed, I thought it best to post our experience. See my review on...
