A beautiful historical gem within a stones throw of Kennebunkport. This inn was recently purchased and renovated starting in 2023 and it’s now quite beautiful. Can’t believe over my 20-30 visits to my favorite town in ME that it’s my first time to enjoy this wonderful bed and breakfast. Mike the inn keeper is a wonderfully warm gentleman who will great you whenever you arrive and will know you on a first name basis immediately. Willing to anything to make your stay enjoyable, he will immediately familiarize you with the premises and amenities and even sit down over beverages to get you settled in. The hotel looks brand new and is immaculately kept with beautiful warm furnishings that make you feel instantly at home. Every room has a unique personality with great decor and a clean bright bathroom, A/C-heat and opening windows to let in the cool Maine night air. There is a shared fridge upstairs for personal beverages and a shared television downstairs if you need your tv fix.
This gorgeous inn is just off the Main Street with sidewalks paths allowing easy walking (or use the free bikes) to leave the car behind and head into any of the restaurants and shops in town The road is never that busy and gets fairly quiet at night so as to not be too loud to sleep especially with the well insulated windows closed. With the darkening shades pulled and a/c on you can comfortably sleep all that you’d like on the comfy beds.
Those looking for a modern hotel experience will not find this their cup of tea. As part of the unique step back to a simpler time, Be prepared to walk upstairs with no elevators (Mike is more than gracious enough to carry your luggage), there is no tv in the room so you can unplug and enjoy the peace of Maine, and rooms are smallish as typical of any historical inns. This is what makes it so memorable and fun and quaint.
As is the norm for historical buildings, The walls are thin and floors are creepy (neither overtly so) so please be respectful of other guests (ie. don’t let your children pound around the house high on gummy bears at 6am or sit and curse at your husband at the top of your drunken lungs from 11pm until 1am on the front lawn Adirondack chairs—we’re all in this together and may not enjoy your lack of courtesy) as even someone as great as Mike has only so much control over your fellow guest mates. In short, if you’re looking for giant rooms with a big screen television and romper room for your hellions / can’t hold your liquor / need an elevator please book the comfort inn down the interstate. This is not a criticism of the inn—just a sign of shifting respect for others and the reality of some people’s needs. For everyone else you will have an amazing visit here
If you can politely share and want one of the most beautiful inns in town with wonderfully kind owners and are willing to respect the quality furnishings and a step back to a slower happier time then book a room soon. They’ve thought of everything they possibly can to make your stay incredible and I cannot impress upon you how safe and clean this B&B is.
Can’t thank them enough for a wonderful stay. Can’t wait to return. You won’t find kinder owners or inn keepers or a better...
Read moreI always enjoy staying at B&B's because you actually have the opportunity to interact with the owner and other guests. Our stay at the Harbor Inn was one of the best B&B experiences we had ever enjoyed.
After enjoying a fabulous two course ice-cream dinner at the local ice cream shop, we came back to the inn early, and settled into the living room to read our books. Pretty soon Bill came in and started a fire in the fireplace (best place for a fire). We started talking about various topics. A little later a wonderful couple from the UK (One Scot and one Brit) came back from their meal. They sat down and joined in. Soon the third couple who were from NJ/NY area returned and participated. They were all brilliant people! The seven of us talked for about an hour and a half. Fun, enlightening and informative discussion.
The next morning over a delicious breakfast prepared by Bill and served by his mother, the conversation resumed with ease. With a little encouragement, Bill and his mother sat down and joined the conversation. Everybody participated, nobody monopolized, everybody was respected. The world should operate this way.
Nearly two hours later we adjourned to go our separate ways with nice memories. Maybe it was just the luck of the draw with personalities that meshed. But it was definitely the atmosphere and hospitality that allowed our stay to become so memorable.
Thanks Bill. ...
Read moreThe Harbor Inn is just about the most perfect location in Kennebunkport. Situated on picturesque Ocean Avenue, the Harbor Inn is a short walk (and an even shorter ride on one of the many complimentary bikes available for guests) to the hustle and bustle of town or down to scenic Walker's Point. We even biked to the famed White Barn Inn for dinner one night.
Even more perfect than the location is the ambiance and service at the Harbor Inn. The deep front porch with rocking chairs, the cozy and very Maine-esque living room, den, and dining area make you feel right at home. Mike, the innkeeper, is the piece de resistance, making guests feel welcome and like family at this perfect New England hideaway. When he is not hosting breakfast each morning or setting out bakery fresh cookies, he is making sure the guests needs are otherwise attended to. The powerful A/Cs and comfy bed linens are notable upgrades that we enjoyed.
You will not be disappointed if you are ready to experience the true Maine bed and breakfast experience. Five out of five and we will be back all the way...
