Today I visited Toys in the Attic in Kennebunkport with my service dog Blue. As soon as I arrived in the store one of the employees stopped me. He began asking very personal and incredibly insensitive questions. Such as “ whats your disability? ” and he asked to see identification. Which is illegal. When I tried to explain I had a disabling anxiety disorder and panic disorder he kept cutting me off and saying that my dog was an emotional support animal. Emotional support animal do not have task training and do not have the same rights as service ones. He also began lecturing me on how my dog was not the specific breed. Any dog can be a service dog it all depends on the temperament. As I tried to explain calmly to the man kept having a snarky attitude and began raising his voice. I left to find my mom and when she was trying to explain my rights he just kept yelling. It even lead to me having an anxiety and panic attack. If my dog had not alerted me to my rising hart rate and impending panic attack things could have ended much worse. I would like to also say that the whole time my dog was not misbehaving and was totally calm and doing his job. I am fifteen years old and I don’t think other costumers want to be shopping at a place we’re the employees belittle and harass children with disabilities till the point of a panic attack. There were other people who saw and those with me who all watched it happen and talked to me after about how what they saw was wrong and how they were going to leave reviews as well so I ask that you read those too and consider this before giving...
Read moreUnfortunately I witnessed a male worker ask a teenage girl accompanied by a service dog to leave this establishment because she had her service dog with her. This girl was asked personal/illegal questions about her disability/purpose of her service dog. According to American law: A person accompanied by and engaged in the raising or training of a service dog, including a hearing, guide or assistance dog, shall have the same rights, privileges and responsibilities as those afforded to an individual with a disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act, 42 U.S.C. sections 12101 et seq. Very disappointed to see establishments behaving this way and not taking the rights of humans/animals seriously. I hope this establishment will rethink the way they treat customers with disabilities in order to provide the best service to...
Read moreWe happened to stop by this toy store right as they were closing (without realizing it at first). The employee was literally walking down the stairs to lock the door, yet she greeted us so kindly and let my children look around without rushing them. She patiently waited while they made their choices, and we are so grateful for her kindness.
My kids had been to the other toy stores before this and hadn’t found what they were looking for, but this one did not disappoint—they each left very happy with several toys! The selection is wonderful, and the customer service was above and beyond. We’ll definitely be back (at proper hours...
