We didn’t stay here overnight, but we visited the lovely quaint restaurant that’s located along the charming hillside through a covered bridge. As soon as the three of us walked in, appropriately masked-up and always polite, we were asked why we didn’t go to the neighboring restaurant/bar Charity’s instead. The question confused me, as I’m a Cheesecake Factory bartender of 15 years, and a massive restaurant enthusiast. When we got to the table after standing awkwardly in an empty lobby, the seemingly-friendly owner handed us menus and asked if we were ready to enjoy something other than beers and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I guess he assumed we were skiing all day and shoving beers down our throats followed by the sandwich of my childhood (I write this review on behalf of my 38-year old self, and 2 others in their late 30’s). By this time the 3 of us first-time diners felt awkward, judged, confused, and profiled. Yet, we still ordered $200 worth of drinks and dinner in support of dining-in at suffering establishments during this Covid crisis. The server came over and was just as pretentious as the owner. The thought that we were “not in the right restaurant” was the overall feeling we all had. My friend’s MRare Ribeye showed up completely Rare, and my brussel sprouts and pastrami hash was worse than chewing gum. I couldn’t even eat it, and I didn’t. The only good thing from this experience was a martini made very well. Other than that, it was completely awful.
We paid the full bill and tipped 20%, but 2 days later, I still can’t digest this experience, so I’m writing...
Read moreThe Birch Ridge Inn was beyond perfect for a trip to Killington. The owners/hosts, Bill and Mary, go above and beyond to make sure every guest feels welcome and that everything is taken care of. The place is so cozy and is even enjoyable during COVID times. I am vegan, and Mary made me special breakfasts each morning and the chef made delicious vegan meals for me for dinner, as well. I was sooo grateful for this! The room we stayed in was very clean and comfortable with ample room to put ski things after a day on the mountain. There are no pictures of the bathrooms and I forgot to get one for the review, but no need to worry about this! We had Room 2 and our bathroom was so clean with fresh tiles and was all updated. It had a large bathroom countertop with area for two people getting ready, and a large walk-in shower with a seat in it. We also had a more modern looking room than some in the pictures. There was a flat screen television and a couch in the room, as well. We felt like we were at home walking into the Birch Ridge Inn every day after skiing with warm greetings and conversation all around. Bill and Mary were so amazing to us and other guests. We can't wait to go back to the Birch Ridge Inn - they have our sole business for staying in Killington! Thank you for an excellent stay,...
Read moreMy husband and I were guests a few years ago for a nice little staycation. It was Christmas time and surprisingly the hotel was pretty quiet. The place has a nice little bar (feels almost like a living room rather than what you normally think a bar looks like) where the owners stayed and bartended for us, (even though it was late and we were the only ones there) in a beautiful gathering area with couches and a gorgeous floor to ceiling decorated tree. They treated us like family.
It was a cozy setting, everything was clean and comfortable, and we had everything we needed. We would love to make it up again that way soon.
*response to “new management”: wow it’s no longer an inn where the regular person can just rent a nice cozy room with a mom and pop vibe. The website boasts its for “your group or family to take over The Whole ski lodge”. And you can hire your own staff to “take over the kitchen too!”
The rooms are renovated to be modern instead of cottage cozy. Who needs a whole ski lodge for 28 people?? Oh, the upper echelon of rich tourists.
Guess we’re never staying here again. The Killington Vacation Rentals ruined it. Thanks for replying to my review. It’s really too bad what you did to the place. Taking...
