⭐ 0/5 – Absolutely Horrific Experience – Avoid at All Costs
If I could give zero stars, I would. Our stay at the Best Western in Kirkwood, MO was nothing short of disgusting, stressful, and completely unacceptable.
Cockroach Infestation – On our first night, we noticed a small bug in the shower and assumed it was just a harmless beetle. We didn’t see any more bugs on Saturday, and on Sunday we went to bed early, so we didn’t notice anything then either. But Monday night, I stayed up late – and that’s when all the roaches came out. They were crawling in the room, and I was horrified. I spent the entire night awake, terrified they would get into our belongings. In the morning, we had to completely unpack and shake out every single item to make sure we weren’t bringing any home. I called the front desk immediately and was told someone would be sent to address the problem – no one ever came. Zero concern, zero urgency.
Breakfast Disaster – The complimentary breakfast was an absolute joke. There was almost no food available two hours before breakfast was even supposed to end. When guests asked about it, the staff was not only unhelpful but downright rude, telling people, “We’re not bringing anything else out, we have no food.” No apology, no attempt to accommodate. Just snotty, dismissive attitudes.
Filthy, Broken Pool – The pool area looked like it had been through an earthquake and never repaired. The water was cloudy and coated with a film from days of not being filtered. It was clearly unsafe and unsanitary to swim in.
False Advertising – This hotel looks NOTHING like the photos online. The images on their website are downright misleading. This place is run down, poorly maintained, and absolutely not worth the money.
I genuinely don’t know how this hotel is still open. Between the roaches, rotten customer service, unsafe amenities, and false advertising, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had in my life. Do yourself a favor and stay anywhere else.
I am editing to comment on the response received from The Owner on this post I have tried to call management, no calls back or the number isn't receiving calls. My next plan is to talk...
Read moreI want to clarify up front that I am rating this place primarily based upon what this place could be compared to what it is. The staff was courteous and professional. The building seems to be well maintained, and the rooms are clean enough. However, where this establishment fails is in its lack of attention to detail with regard to typical guests (if I can claim to be such a person). I'll step you through my thoughts below.
My first expectation was that there would be USB ports available for charging my stuff. No such luck. Interestingly, there was a USB shaped sconce in my room that mocked me as I tried to figure out how to recharge my devices. Fortunately, because I was moving a bunch of my stuff back to my familial home, I had a power supply with USB ports on it. Problem solved. However, why should this have happened in the first place?
Second, the television had an option to access youtube. I was happy to see this, as I have been binging the hilarious Taskmaster series over the last few weeks. Unfortunately, the app didn't work for me. I called the front desk, and the kind clerk informed me that the televisions could only connect to cable services. Any nerd knows this could be remedied with minimal effort by the staff.
Aside from those technical issues, I was pleased to find a balcony in my room. If I were still a smoker, this would have been a deeply appreciated feature. As an ex-smoker, I still appreciated the view. While the balcony didn't have enough space to sit and appreciate the area, it was still nice to look out across the area.
Another disappointing feature I noticed was that the beds and mattresses look frumpy. They're comfy enough, but, on first sight, they seem to be aged and overworn.
Within certain constraints that are applicable to a modest hotel room at the rates they charge, this is a decent place to stay. What's most disappointing about it is that, with a few minor changes, it could be...
Read moreSummary: Decent hotel in a good location, but negative experience with Michael at the front desk.
We spent 2 nights here, stopping to rest between our drive from CO to NC. The hotel was clean and had everything we needed, but not all staff were wearing masks (and weren't all wearing them properly). They also definitely weren't enforcing the mask rule for guests.
We had a bad experience with Michael at the front desk. We had arrived late Thu night, and I let the man at the front desk that we had a dog because I knew it was $30/day, but there wasn't an option to add it on the website we booked through. He got us checked-in and we headed to our room. The next day we were in and out multiple times with the dog and had no issues with the few different people at the front desk. And then we walked back in around 10p with her, and Michael aggressively asked, "What room are you?". So I asked why, and he asked again. I responded and said, "We paid for her (pointing to our dog) already." He then was rude and asked again, so I told him we were in room 108. I waited for him to pull up our information before he acknowledge that we were good to go on our way. I asked again why he had asked us, and he said because it looked like we were going towards the elevator (we weren't, we had already passed them and were standing right in front of the TV), and that if we had a dog we should be on the first floor, which we were. I'm not sure why we were targeted (maybe age), and specifically by him, but the way he handled the situation was inappropriate. He was incredibly rude and essentially accused us of wrongdoing.
Everyone else we encountered that worked there, was...
