Deluxe Inn — Hotel in La Plata

My husband and I love midcentury buildings, signs, etc, and we take photos of midcentury things as a hobby. We were passing though La Plata, saw the Deluxe Inn’s pink and green exterior, and decided to pull into the parking lot for a few quick photos. As my husband was taking a photo, the manager came out and was immediately aggressive. He threatened to call the police and demanded that we leave. We tried to explain that we were just taking a photo of the hotel because we thought it was a beautiful building, but he wouldn’t even let us get a word in. He also wasn’t wearing a mask and got in my husband’s face, which felt aggressive and totally unnecessary. We feared for our safety and quickly left.

It’s a shame because we often stay in midcentury motels for the experience, and we always make it a point to support businesses that we take pictures of; we would have been more than happy to patronize the hotel or support in some way. He could have simply asked us why we were taking the photo or at least approached us without aggression. We suspect that he was racially profiling my husband and/or this business has building code violations or illegal activity on site that they are trying to hide. I would never stay somewhere that treats people so badly, and I will advise everyone that I know, especially midcentury enthusiasts, to...

The night we checked in we were told that the rate we have to pay for was $50 per night. The old man at the office was so hard to understand so we had to ask him again for clarification and he repeatedly said $50 for 1 night. We paid for 5 nights. We got back to our room really late the next evening-at 11:46pm-when we got a call from that same old man at the office telling us he did not charge us enough! We went to him to ask for explanation but he was insistent on charging us $30 more or we have to leave in the morning. Tbh, money was not the issue, but it was his attitude. He was downright rude!! He did not even apologize for bothering us in the middle of the night nor accept that he made the mistake!! No apology, no courtesy!! We couldn't even understand him properly because he could not express himself in English well!! Also, they snooped in our things; I arranged our stuff in a certain way before we left our room but when we came back, they were different. They have wifi but the rooms aren't to up to date. They don't have smart tvs tho. There is plenty of parking. The housekeeping is only fair... I really suggest they clean the place up better. Everything was dusty & the rooms kinda dirty...and thats me being nice. Let's just say I cleaned the room myself and bleached the bathroom. They were pretty good to me at the office. They always gave me my mail and extra pillows or blankets if they had any as well as towels. Very accommodating. They are economically friendly so i guess you get what you pay for. There went any roach bugs or rodents that i saw tho anyway thank God. They did have refrigerators and microwaves so that's always a plus. There are plenty fast food and convince stores nearby a well as a wall-mart right down the road. It's on a strip so there is every little store, bank, church, USPS and a few laundry mats really close. My favorite accommodation was the Burger King across the street .
