NOT RECOMMENDED** This Drive-in is in serious disrepair. The entrance price you pay is not worth the experience. The cost was $28 a carload up to 4, and $6 each additional person. (?????) What is the sense of charging per "carload". We were greeted by woman with a cigarette skillfully hanging from her mouth, who seemed to have no sense of friendliness seeing she is the first person you see pulling in. If you imagine giving your family the experience of your childhood of going to the drive-in, this is far from it. It lacks organization, the "screens" are small, the audio transmission is poor, and the "snack bar" is a hole, and the bathrooms are disgusting to say the least. It took all that we had to stay even for the first showing. We purchased a bucket of popcorn which was over $5. that you can butter yourself; the the butter counter needed some serious cleansing - BAD idea, it was cheap popcorn that was bearly popped kernals and we felt sick afterward (probably due to the rancid butter topping). Be prepared to get eatin' alive. The mosquitoes are unbearable. If you go, wear insect spray. I'm not saying that all people were creepy, but I did not get the sense that there were more family friendly carloads there the evening we went. Save yourself some money and rent a DVD and pop some popcorn popped the ol' fashioned way, butter it. Buy some of your favorite candies at your local dollar store and watch the movie in your home for a fraction of the cost, and feel safer for it. And you'll give your family and friend a better time. This drive-in redefines the reasons why they've become place of the past. * NOT...
Read moreTHE GOOD - Great price and we love going here. Staff was good, they had some fun offerings at the concession stand (fried Oreos and fried Reese’s) - definitely not healthy but unique. Love that they are very dog friendly (but see note below about fireworks before bringing your dogs!!!)
THE AVOIDABLE - There were a few negative things that could have been easily avoided. For example, we intentionally went 2 hours early to get a parking spot and then go walk around the beach across the street. After we paid and parked, we were told we were not allowed to leave the property. Understandable, but if there were signs saying that before we paid, we could have come back later and been able to enjoy our evening. Especially since there was still plenty of parking 30 minutes before the movie started.
Also, since we didn’t get to walk around the beach beforehand, we didn’t see the signs saying “Fireworks tonight at 9:30”. Not a fun surprise for our dogs to be across the street from a large fireworks show. Also extremely distracting when trying to watch the movie on Screen 4. It was honestly a fun place to watch the fireworks from… just didn’t see a 15-20 minute chunk of the movie.
All that being said, we will certainly go back. We love the opportunity to go to a drive-in, we’ll just plan...
Read moreI just wanted to comment on the overall reviews I have read. Drive-In Theaters have been around since the 30's. Not much has changed in the ones that still operate. This is part of the nostalgia. If you are looking for crisp, modern graphics, or modern day surround sound, or healthy "health conscious" food, or no mosquitos, you are in the wrong place!! Most of these used to operate on 35 mm, had speakers that hung on the driver window that were fair at best, and most serve typical "Americana" food and if you are outside, OF COURSE there will be mosquitos!!! Most Drive-Ins have been retrofitted with digital film and FM sound. Drive-Ins always kind of had a "Seedy" atmosphere and if they are still operating, do not expect much to change!!! Just be grateful they still exist, sit down, enjoy the show, plow down some good Americana food and smack the mosquitos off!!! If the popcorn looks like its been out too long, DON'T BUY IT!!! If you want nice, perfect bathrooms, STAY HOME!!! Drive-Ins are the best!!! I wouldn't have it any...
