Winthrop Estate is magnificent and worthy of world renown ! ! Our whole family cannot recommend it MORE HIGHLY. The photos don't even do it justice. There are almost too many highlights to mention, but will give it a try. The indoor rooms are HUGE and luxuriant. Treat yourself and your guests to a location that cannot be matched ! Are you looking for an Instagram-ready setting for a Destination Wedding ? .. Or Bridal Shower? Or corporate retreat? Anniversary ? Holiday Party weekend ? This is it ! Every single room is gorgeous/immaculate - and the staircase is.. like out of a Hollywood movie ! The outside includes a Grand Lawn and remarkable landscaping that is meticulously maintained. We've stayed half a dozen times and NEVER want to leave. Our kids - now 9 and 12 - have had the best time over the years, playing on the lawn, using the hammock and discovering all the cool rooms and hideaway spots. Every element is excellently considered. Must include a shout-out regarding the amazing location ! It is a short walk from Tanglewood. If I was a visiting orchestra or a proud parent - THIS is the place I would make my Tanglewood lodging headquarters ! And, Lenox is just as charming and regal as everyone says it is. Wonderful restaurants and very stroll-able. There's one more bonus - the proprietors are MAGICAL ! In 25+ years of traveling and visiting sites (and fancy places!), we have never had quality of care/customer service that has rivaled the team that operates Winthrop Estate ! ! They have exquisite taste and are in all ways...
Read moreI couldn’t be happier to return to 101 Yokun Avenue, Lenox, MA, with friends this time to plan a possible working retreat. I brought my family to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday before the Winthrop Estate was an Airbnb. The T-shirts we printed with an ariel view of the mansion declared “Heaven Can Wait.” And it did—for another 18 years! Relaxing family vacations at the Winthrop Estate might just be good for longevity. ;-) I highly recommend the accommodations, vistas, location, and informative and gracious host, Jamie. The property manager, John, who is also on call, is another asset. I love staying in historical properties and visualizing how the original owners lived. That’s easy to do here, because the owners have done an amazing job redecorating with fine furniture and furnishings and maintaining the property so well. You can even find the original nickel handles on bathroom fixtures. I loved sitting out on the extensive veranda and imagining guests in the '30s in their horse-drawn carriages arriving. I also loved lounging in one of my favorite rooms, the plant-filled solarium with windows on three sides. ...
Read moreThis is a rare historic Gilded Age 1800's mansion with 32 acres and a bunch of bedrooms for a memorable family reunion or special gathering. Each bedroom has a different historic period decor akin to a Downton Abbey experience, and the wood-paneled library, the massive dining room, the conservatory, and the music room all make you feel like you're living in a movie or in a real-life setting for the game CLUE. A fabulous experience. Very close to Lenox center but on a quiet side street, and very close to the Shakespeare theater, Tanglewood, Jacob's...
