6/29/2018 I stopped here on my way from Ontario to Sandusky for a Cedar Point birthday trip. It was a stopping point in between. I wanted to get away and just enjoy and this hotel really helped with that. The front desk clerk, Shan'Tnay was so very friendly. She made me feel so welcome and her cheeriness was contagious. I got up to the room and fell in love with it. Every inch of the room was up to date and in perfect condition. The bed was so comfy--a must for me, one of those beds you could just live in. There was a little mini couch with a footstool and lamp behind that made a perfect reading (or writing) nook. There was a little table for a laptop, and I was sorry I'd left mine behind. This little comfort alone made me wish I could stay longer than one night. I went down to the hot tub and pool. They had a sign up that said no jumping or horseplay, but there was a family with two little boys and they were doing constant cannonballs and splashing way too much for me to even think about getting in the pool. I felt a bit annoyed, but I also understand that maybe those kids didn't get to do that at home. I just wish people would be a tad more considerate and maybe leave one end of the pool quiet. The much more well-behaved young girls (even one little one) shared the hot tub with me and were so quiet and respectful. I enjoyed watching them play and talk. After my soak, which is always good for the joints, I went to tick off another item on my bday trip list: a drink in the hotel bar. The bartender, Cynthia, was an absolute sweetheart. She made me a Coconut Collins and we talked a bit about books and RA and grown kids. She was awesome to get to know and made a mean drink. It really tasted like a candy from my childhood...one of those yellow coconut bonbons that are lemon flavored. The bar is also a bistro, so you could get a snack, breakfast or coffee there too. It was a cute, clean beautiful space. I even got to sip my drink in my own little personal booth with my own tv and remote. I thought it was a great space. If one wanted to go outside, they also had beautiful outdoor furniture. My room also boasted a balcony with table and chairs. I'd pictured myself sitting out there and sipping at a drink, but I'd gotten up at 3AM and was exhausted. I climbed into that comfy bed and read some Stephen King. All in all this hotel was just perfect. The remote didn't work for the tv...twice, and the desk clerk actually came up to my room with me to...
Read moreA few positives were that the front desk associate (at check in) was very kind and had nice things to say. The room seemed very comfortable and nice as well. The beds were comfortable.
However, the light next to the bed did not work. The pool was COLD for being an indoor pool. There were small black hairs around and on the bathroom door.. kind of gross. The thing that disappointed us most about our stay was the how deceiving this location was about breakfast. At check in, the front desk associate mentioned "breakfast is at 6am" - as if it was complimentary. The next morning we went down for breakfast, which looked like most breakfasts that are complimentary. The red flag SHOULD have been that we were greeted by a server saying we are welcome to sit wherever and she can bring us coffee. Your usual coffee, juices, oatmeal, eggs, etc. were on display. We then noticed biscuits and gravy (a fan fav.) which was the next red flag we SHOULD take note to. Not many "complimentary" breakfasts have this.
Just before finishing our meals, the server brings a receipt for $36! - Basically without telling us that breakfast was $18/person. She only brought us a coffee and took our plates. NO ONE and NOWHERE said that this breakfast was $18/person and the front desk at check in stating the time gave an impression that breakfast was included with our room.
When we complained about this to the front desk after breakfast, she said "you should've looked at your check in confirmation to see if it was included". This was irrelevant. The price of the room was of one that typically includes it but telling us breakfast is "at 6am" deceives us to believe it is included. So we packed up and went to check out. I let them know maybe it would be best to display the prices of breakfast for guests to be aware of rather than surprising them with a receipt. I can get a more quality breakfast at a restaurant for CHEAPER than $18 and what they provided at this small buffet.
Overall, not the best stay I have had just simply because they seemed to care more about the dollar than the...
Read moreI must say that the Courtyard at Detroit is well maintained and the rooms are spotless. My complaint was due to a guest at the hotel disturbing our sleep. On Saturday night or early Sunday morning around 3:15AM, a very drunk Caucasian female guest woke us up by her pounding on the door next to our door (she was pounding on room 223 we were in 221). We heard voices then the door slammed. Next we hear pounding on our door! This woman was relentless. Gene called down to the front desk to report the disturbance and asked for security to remove her as I went to the door to stop the pounding! I answered the door with the safety latch attached and saw no one at eye level but lowering my view I discovered the woman sitting on the floor since she was unable to stand!!! She glanced up while weaving to right her view and asked, “Is this room 222?” I replied, “NO!” I didn’t tell her that it was across the hall since I wasn’t her tour guide; plus, I wanted her to still be in the hallway when security arrived to remove her! As I was closing the door I observed her turning to be in a crawling position so that she could begin to stand, revealing more than I cared to view from her sagging pajama bottoms! After closing the door, we heard her pound on two more doors before security arrived to remove her! One of the reasons we stay with Marriott is to AVOID scenes like I just described. I realize that you cannot control all of the actions of your guests; however, would it be possible to have cameras in hallways to monitor activity at night since you have only one person at the front desk? Or perhaps employ a security person to monitor these cameras especially when the hotel is full with wedding guests and many have indulged in too many adult beverages!!! I don’t know if others have complained about this incident, but I must admit that it ruined any possibility of us getting back to sleep!!!! After this point, we were wide awake unable to lure our minds back to that tranquil state allowing for a calm...
