We recently completed a 9-night stay at Best Western in Livonia, MI. I have to admit that I’m laughing at how bad it was.
After checking in, we noticed a musty, cigarette smell in our room. We immediately went and reported it to the lady at the desk, who said that there weren’t any other rooms to move to. She gave us a can of Lysol to cover the smell? We ended up keeping the AC and bathroom vent on 100% of the time to clear the smell and musky odor. It basically smelled like a damp sports locker room the whole time and everything in the room had a moist feeling to it. We tried cracking the window its half-inch of ability to get fresh air in – no effect. Our shower didn’t have a ‘bathtub’ setting – no matter how much I tried to push the lever down, it wouldn’t budge. My daughter really wanted a bath, but didn’t get it. As we had the fans on all night to reduce the stench, it was damn near impossible to sleep. It was no fun sleeping on a clammy bed.
Housekeeping was virtually non-existent. In our 9 nights, we received services only twice, the second time me having to flag her down. Apparently, the door sign saying “please make up the room” does nothing. When I asked the desk for help, I was given fresh towels and everything I needed, as well as an explanation that the hotel was just out of many things, including housekeepers as they just didn’t want to work. We did our best to conserve resources and make our own room up.
The pool is not the one pictured on the website. It’s weirdly raised up, which was uneasy to walk into. It was about 6ft and had a good size for laps. Although the pool room was HOT, the pool itself was oddly super COLD. We only used it twice.
Breakfast was a joke. All of the ‘hot’ food was lukewarm at best when there was some. No matter the time, 7am – 9am, it was always empty. When you were able to get some food, it tasted horrible, The meat products had a flavor similar to meats in an Asian wet market. RIP to the lady who ate the Turkey sausage- it tasted like cat food. Eggs were all microwaved garbage. The best thing, the printed pancakes, were sparse as the machine kept breaking down. Granted, there were a lot of people. However, a hotel should plan to service at capacity. Each time some food came out, it was destroyed by a pack of hungry hyenas. I don’t blame the server/room attendant, I blame the system. There should have been a staff at least 2-3 strong prepping, staging, and serving the food. Having been in F&B for a good portion of my life, I could see there was real no solution for success. Perhaps the daytime front desk lady could have put her phone down for a bit to help out. The dining room also had limited seating, which was literally fought for by some.
On the 8th night, after repeated service calls to the front desk for help, we were offered another room. However, it was too late at that point as we were unpacked and there was no guarantee that the new room would have been better. I asked for a discount as we didn't receive any services and per the condition of the room. There are some good things about the hotel, mainly it’s location as it served our purposes nicely. Parking was good. A shining star in all of this darkness was the night front desk lady, Angel. She was getting killed with housekeeping requests, refilling linens, towels, toiletries, etc. Also good service to check people in. Through all of this, she maintained a very sweet personality and great smile.
Overall, I’d give this hotel 0 stars. It’s a dump in every respect. I’d say those people who did put in effort to provide service did the best they could. Definitely not worth what we paid and will definitely be avoided in the future. Hope this helps anyone considering this...

Read moreOverall great stay. Staff was top notch! Very accommodating and knowledgeable. I left a specific detailed review, to the President/ COO of Best Westernand. I hope 🤞🏻 Blair Front Desk manager can read my review on how valuable she is to Best Western and thru my Eyes. Unfortunately, I was in a unexpected change in my life, where I needed a roof over my head, as I waited to close on my new residence in 2 weeks.. Everybody in that building is close to perfect. I say close because, nobody is perfect! Blair is the Queen Of hearts! She made the transition easy, during my 13 night stay. She always updated me daily (other than when she was off) on my daily bill statement, as I paid daily on the fly because, the uncertainty of when I can move into my new home. This hotel was great! Great breakfast! Nice sized rooms, it had it all. You cannot beat the price under $80.00 plus tax a night. If you know the location, it’s a hop, skip and jump to the major highways. Next store, within walking distance is a Red Robin. They have a nice mall across the street. Bar Louis’s is across the road if your in the mood for a good martini. Location is perfect! If anything no more than 20 to 25 minutes from Metro DTW airport to this Best western. It’s worth the 20 to 25 min drive to save $25.00 minimum, and higher, to drive to Livonia, MI. In addition, i want to share my customer appreciation for Mark. I originally thought he was the GM. He’s very straight forward. I’m saying this because, I thought he was the GM. He was very serious!!! In a good way. He’s the the colonel. In the military you have generals as in Blair and Mark is on the verge of getting that general one star rconversation going. He loves his job! I truly hope, as much as I gloated about Blair, Mark is a close 2nd. I truly hope that these individuals never part with best western. Working together at the same time at the front desk, is flawless and the chemistry between the both, moving the paying clients, promptly into their room, with smiles on their face. The reason, why I’m going in great detail and take the 30 minutes, to mention the individual names is, they deserved and earned it! In our time now, and with our busy life’s with , our families, its easy to ignore or have the time to sit down and take the time to share a genuinely, Truly Exceptional experience! They made me want to come back ASAP, if I was too tired or went out for a function in Livonia, I’m calling them. I now live 25 minutes the opposite way further away from DTW airport. I’ve traveled in the USAF and I’ve seen it all. Trust me on this! Sometimes our days are hectic. We get sidetracked, stressed or we’re upset at the world. There’s no reason to keep our eyes open thru the people we encounter. I’m a sponge, I asorb and see everyone’s body langue. Positive or bad! I feel in life, we don’t recognize our encounters with people on social media. I rather you feel my excitement thru my words, to tell you and make sure you see this hotel is almost perfect. It’s worth every penny. When I left i was kind of bummed. I say that because, thru my eyes in my life, you do not encounter great talent or people that make you feel welcomed and appreciated as family. You cannot teach genuine, down to earth individuals, with such a drive and focus to make you feel loved and appreciated! Finally to wrap this up, all I’m saying is, give Beat western in Livonia a try and make sure when you check in ask for Blair or Mark. If they ask how you found out about this place? You can show them their review! They earned it!!!! #Enoughsaid #thankyou #bestwestern #profesionals...
