Von Maur — Local services in Livonia

I am a African American female in my mid 30’s. I’ve been a Customer at Von Maur faithfully for 4 years. We have two stores here in Michigan about 30 mins from each other and I’ve enjoyed shopping at both. I’ve developed relationships through this store with other customers and also workers. For the most part the customers service has been phenomenal! Sadly, as of recent I’ve been experiencing some very strong racism. Because I’m black, and successful, I can’t spend hundreds of dollars at Von Maur without being watched, or my receipts being copied, or lost prevention watching me and following me around the store as if I’m stealing. I’ve have never in my life stolen anything from anyone and I won’t start now. I shop using my same Chase Bank debit card when making purchases. I love the amazing deals so most times I’m taking advantage of those deals that are offered. I’ve order shoes in, and they’ve claimed they never made it to the store, but I really believe they’re selling my shoes when they come into their store. Some of the workers will see you coming and because you shop the sale items they really don’t want to help you since it’s not really giving them a good commission. I’ve even heard workers say that they don’t like to order in items for customers because it’s doesn’t give them much on the sale. I feel that it’s a personal problem with the employees and not so much the company. If the company offers this special perks to their customers, why are the employees holding back from specific customers? I would really like to hear from corporate to see if they are aware of such harrasment that goes on in their stores. It’s very unfortunate, that being black you’re deemed as a target because you come frequently and shop. It’s easy for me to just continue to come and shop and ignore the harassment, but who wants to shop and spend their hard earned money in such a hostile environment? I bought a suit on May 29th at the Livonia location. It was the first new suit I have purchased in over thirty years. I informed my sales person that I was on a fixed income but wanted something really nice for my nieces wedding. He took great care of me and I bought a great looking suit. He measured me and we discussed the alterations. I was given a date that the suit would be ready. The suit was ready for pick up 4 days early. I picked up the suit today and it was perfect. Even though I was impressed with Jason on the day I bought my suit, He was even more impressive today. The reason I am writing this review now is because I was in the people business for almost 50 years even though the sale was completed weeks ago he still took out his time today making sure I was totally satisfied. My visit to Von Maur on the 29th was the first time I was ever in the store and now I recommend to all my family and friends to buy their clothes and any other accessories there. This is a luxury department store par excellence! It's beautiful, clean, well-lit, and just a joy to shop in. During Christmas, they had someone playing Christmas songs on a beautiful grand piano. They actually have salespeople that help you locate what you're looking for instead of you having to endlessly search around for an item with no help in sight. The salesperson will start a dressing room for you and check to see how you're doing and if you need another size or whatever. These are reasons I've stopped shopping at Macy's, no help, over-priced clothes with lint, hair, dust etc. all over them, and noone to help in the fitting rooms. If something doesn't fit, you have to get completely re-dressed to search for the next size. Von Maur on the other hand, seems to value it's customers and their shopping experience. The prices are a bit more, but they offer a NO INTEREST credit card that takes the bite out of the price. I recommend this store to anyone that is looking for quality items and a stellar shopping...
