A Lukewarm Experience at Holiday Inn Express: In Need of a Refresh
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5)
During my recent stay at a Holiday Inn Express, I was met with a rather underwhelming experience that left much to be desired. While the hotel provided the basic amenities one would expect, there were noticeable issues that detracted from the overall comfort and satisfaction of my stay.
First and foremost, upon entering my room and the first floor of the hotel, I couldn't help but notice a slightly unpleasant odor that seemed reminiscent of an "older generation." This scent was pervasive and lingered throughout my stay, which was disappointing and gave the impression that the hotel could benefit from a thorough renovation or deep cleaning. The presence of such an odor was an unfortunate distraction that affected the overall ambiance and comfort of the accommodations.
In terms of the room itself, it was adequate but lacked any standout features or modern touches. The furnishings and decor seemed dated, and there was a noticeable lack of attention to detail in terms of cleanliness and maintenance. While the room provided the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay, it lacked the freshness and modernity that one would hope for in a contemporary hotel.
On a more positive note, the hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. They were responsive to inquiries and requests, ensuring that guests were taken care of to the best of their abilities. The service was satisfactory, although it did not go above and beyond to create a truly memorable experience.
In conclusion, my experience at this particular Holiday Inn Express was average at best. While the hotel provided the essential amenities and friendly service, the noticeable odor and overall dated feel of the room and first floor left a lot to be desired. For those seeking a more modern and refreshed hotel experience, it may be worth exploring other options in the area. However, if you are simply in need of a basic and functional accommodation without expecting any frills or luxuries, this Holiday Inn Express could still serve as a...
Read moreI stopped and checked in earlier in the day for my family as I knew it would be a late night out for us and did not want to find that someone was hard to reach in the middle of the night. It was an easy process and they gave me my key cards. I did mention I wanted to be by the elevator as I have injured tendon and stairs are difficult. Once I arrived some time after 2am, the elevator would not accept my key card and kept blinking yellow and red. So it was late I hobbled up the stairs. Our room was on the opposite side of the building. We needed to make a second trip to the car since I could not carry much going up the stairs with my bad leg. I had noticed that there was better parking on the other side of the building and a spot directly under our window and next to the handicap spots and an entrance closer. Our key card did not open that door by the handicap spots and stairs on that side. We walked to the middle of the property and the key card worked there. Very early the next morning the maid was knocking on our door and woke us up asking if we were ready to check out. I think that was like 7am. It took us a while to get back to sleep as we needed it coming in late and having a long drive ahead of us after were actually going to check out. I asked for an extra time for a late check out and she told us we could leave at noon. When i expressed that I was unhappy that the maid waking us up their answer was that we should have put the do not disturb sign on the door. Really, that did not even cross my mind late at night when I arrived after a wild goose chase to even get in our room. I have stayed at many Hotels/Inns/Motels and never had to do that or woken up so early. I get that there is a toilet paper panic but they only gave us one roll on the holder that was about less than 1/3 left on it. However I can say that the room was modern, beautiful and very clean. I liked the walk in shower. Because it appears to be remodeled and nicely done I would recommend it to family and friends to stay and also would give it...
Read moreThis definitely shouldn't count in my review BUT... my room was upgraded to a larger room prior to my arrival. Not sure who is in charge of the upgrades. I didn't request one. I just received an email a day or two prior to my arrival saying that my room was upgraded. PRETTY COOL!!! When I called the hotel to inform them of my late arrival I requested extra blankets, sheets, and pillows, and when I arrived at the hotel those items were already inside my room. PRETTY COOL!!! Upon arrival the gentleman at the front desk thanked me for being a Platinum Elite member, asked me if I wanted the welcome amenity points or gift, and asked to see my credit card on file. FIRST TIME this has EVER happened at any IHG hotel... and I'm pretty sure that "SHOULD BE" common protocol for every customer. I actually needed one more blanket so when I went back to the front office the same guy said that they were out of blankets in the front office, but went out and got me one from I'm assuming housekeeping. No questions asked just went and got me another one. I just stayed up at the Berkeley Holiday Inn the night before and when I asked the guy in the front for extra sheets and blankets he told me that he didn't know where they were in housekeeping and asked me "why do you even need them?" He said he could get me them in the morning when housekeeping arrived. Like I really needed blankets and sheets in the "morning". One con is that this Holiday Inn has two separate buildings so we had to walk to breakfast outside of our building and into the rain to get to the main building where the lobby and breakfast area is located. Other than that the room was immaculate. Kind of seemed like this was a newer hotel. Would definitely stay...
