We were excited to try this new place in Lompoc. That is until we waited almost 10 minutes before even being greeted. There is a sign at the entrance that says wait to be seated. They do not have a host or anywhere to write your name. A lady finally came up to us and pointed across somewhere in the restaurant and told us to sit over there. She was not going to walk us to our table, and It was unclear to where exactly our table was. So we said, “Where?” So she decided to walk us over. Once seated someone slid some menus on our table, not very professional. After we looked over the menus we ordered and our food came una moderate amount of time. We ordered 6 piece sushi w/ miso soup, 3 amigos roll, and Mexican fisher man roll. They forgot our soup so we had to ask for it. It tasted a bit watered down. The Mexican fisherman roll had a good amount of fresh fish and was full of flavor. The cilantro was not cut up, and the avocado used in the roll was bruised. I don’t even eat the avocado bruised at home, so a restaurant should definetly not be using bruised avocados on their plates. They also did not bring out out sauce plates nor wasabi and ginger, which in all sushi restaurants all sushi is usay accompanied by this, so we asked for it. The 6 piece sushi was very fresh a nice size piece of fish for each one. They put a tea light candle underneath the garnish which gives a nice effect but makes me a bit weary because I dont know if those tea light candles get washed. The 3 amigos was ok. I would not order it again, not enough flavor for my taste. Overall i enjoyed the freshness of the fish. I hope they work out the kinks because I did like the fish. This can be an...
Read moreWas just passing through town and stopped on a whim for lunch here. I was pleasantly surprised by the cohesive minimalist Japanese feel inside. Very open, and a small intimate sushi bar opposite the entrance. The bathrooms were also very clean and stocked as well. Their lunch menu is a great value for what you get, and i ordered the Deluxe lunch special. That contained 4pcs of nigiri, 5pcs of sashimi, my choice of california roll or spicy tuna handroll, and a miso soup. The sushi chef Sonny was who i sat in front of and had a great balance of silence and light conversation, accompanied by fantastic skill. I also got to watch him prepare a side of salmon and could see the care and passion for sushi as he worked. The sushi itself is of the freshest quality as well. I was able to try the hamachi, albacore, ahi, and sake. The sake was some of the best I've ever had. The spicy tuna roll was well packed and very flavorful. This place has better ahi than many as well. Sonny even made a special nigiri for me of spicy ahi wrapped in sake and topped with tobiko and ponzu sauce. Delicious and beautiful. The servers were very attentive and quick to greet, seat, and bring my miso soup and hot water. The rest of the menu upon quick glance is very reasonably priced and appetizing as well. They do have bimbimbap which I wish I could try on anither pass through one day. The Korean bbq items looked great as well. Overall I give this place 5 stars and would definitely make this a recurring stop on road trips between...
Read moreThe name is really deceiving. This place actually doesn't have your typical grill-yourself Korean BBQ. Instead, they serve mostly sushi and a small menu of Korean dishes that you would normally find in a regular Korean restaurant. So the food: the Galbi (short ribs) I ordered was not fully marinated and expectedly unflavorful. The yellowtail collar appetizer was quite good for its price. The service was terrible. The waiter forgot my order and made me wait 30 min without any explanation. When the food did come out, I asked for a side dish of kimchi, which prompted his hilarious yet sad response: "what's kimchi? Is that a sauce?" How do you work in a restaurant owned by Korean serving Korean food and not know what kimchi is... even Trader Joe's sells kimchi... He forgot my soup that was supposed to come with my order and made me wait for another 15 min after my meal was done to give me the check... in an almost empty restaurant. He was nowhere to be found, and another waitress had to give me drink refills. I understand they just opened up, but everything was just so subpar I couldn't even give them a pass. If you want real Korean bbq, go to Sizzling Golgi in Santa Maria. If you want sushi, go to Dong Hae or Umami. This place has a lot of catching up to do before they can compete with what Lompoc already...
