I've had the pleasure of traveling to Thailand on multiple occasions, but I've only once experienced the pleasure of Suvans Kitchen.
We stuck to the Thai / Lao dishes--thinking that the Chinese dishes are included for the uninitiated. That is, those who haven't taken a culinary adventure through the world of fish sauce, galangal, lemon grass, fiery hot chilies, and their yin counterpoint: lovely, aromatic sticky rice. (If the restaurant is busy, you might ask your waitress to save you one while she's taking your drink order. I think they occasionally run out.)
Get the sticky rice. Get a salad. We enjoyed the Khowpoon Nam Pong (Lao noodle salad). On my next visit we'll try the 'larb' or papaya salad. If you're a meat eater, don't miss the house made sausage. The pasty condiment which accompanies the sausage is sublime. We also enjoyed the green curry and Pad Kra-Pow (stir fry). The only forgettable dish was the Tom Kha Gai, which was only merely better than the stuff served at the legions of bad Thai restaurants found in every big city.
We are a nation of immigrants, and those immigrants have changed the culinary landscape for the better in towns and cities across the country. One can get a lovely Persian meal in Twin Falls, amazing kogi tacos in Seattle, and delicious Southeast Asian cuisine in Lompoc. Thank our immigrant brothers and sisters; they've made this country a...
Read moreVery disappointed. My son and I loved this restaurant 4 years ago when I was here for work. The service and staff were friendly and the food was great. Unfortunately I cannot state having had that experience this time around. We have visited twice on a trip back to Lompoc, and both times were ignored by one young lady at the counter who refused to acknowledge our presence, while we waited to order, despite the lone formed behind us and chose to take calls and work tickets instead. The first visit, her co-worker leaned over to us and whispered something in her ear before asking for our order. This woman was kind and friendly to other other patrons, but for some reason was unprofessional to us. This next visit, same behavior. She would not even make eye contact and while we waited. This time, my son and I left. I would hope race has nothing to do with it, but it seems, by her behavior towards the other patrons, this might very well...
Read moreDelicious food and nice staff, however the pad Thai simply had too much sauce. The flavor of the sauce overpowered the flavor of the noodles and vegetables to where you could only taste the sauce. With pad Thai the sauce should be lightly imbued through the dish so that the noodles retain a slight stickiness.
If too much sauce is added it prevents that stickiness. Additionally the sauce itself was too sweet but other than that it had great flavor.
As far as the ingredient profile, the dish did not contain egg, tofu, or somehow even bean sprouts which are all typical things to add to the dish. This is the first time I've ever been served pad Thai without bean sprouts, so that was fascinating.
And lastly, I emphasized to please make it as spicy as possible yet I would rate the spiciness at like 3.7 out of 10. Weak
Overall I rate it a 5.3 out of 10. Thank you...
