There were pros and cons. The view was amazing. We had a 180 degree view of June Lake. That is where the amazing stopped. The service was good. My issue is with the lodge itself. This is definitely a very old facility and it shows. First and most importantly, the condition of the walkways had me scared. I am usually in a wheelchair, but using it would have caused damage to my chair. MANY pavers were missing. So huge dips. At night you can't really see them. So for older guests or those who need to be careful walking, be very wary and use a flashlight to guide your way. I do not know if they have a handicap room, since my husband arranged for the room, but our room had a stepup that my chair wouldn't have made. The ramp in the middle of the facility on the side of the lake is really steep. They have a guide rail, so that is helpful. But it will be a bit scary for those who aren't very mobile. They do have bbq grills that you can use and nice seating areas. there is an indoor pool and spa. But they were closed. There are three cute and friendly dogs that hang around. They are well mannered dogs, but if you are eating, be prepared, they will whip out huge puppy dog eyes that will be hard to say no to, so be forewarned. As for the room, As soon as you walk in you can smell the age. I had to spray the entire room to remove that old musty smell. The furniture is old. You can see the wear and the dingy dark marks on the armrests. The recliner chair foot rest was slightly broken so it was hard to get out of. The full sofa was better than most at hotels, and the sheets felt and smelled good, so no issue there. There was a full kitchen. The fridge was a good size, clean and worked it well. The bottom drawer wasn't attached so you had to be careful with closing the door. Stove was small but perfect for the size of the room. We didn't use it. The sink is large and deep. They had a microwave and coffee maker. Also had full set of dishes, cups, utensils, pots pans, collander, mixing bowls, grater, can opener. The bed was hard, but the 3" bed topper made it better. There is no AC. It was over 100 this weekend. There was only one box fan. Thankfully, it did work. But it was hard to sleep. Just stepping outside the sliding door onto the balcony made a huge difference. Also, the electrical outlets are old. Which means no 3 prongs for laptops or other items. So bring a power strip. I am not sure about the voltage coming through only because our items were charging super slow and even not at all on some outlets. The bedroom light had electrical tape wrapped around it that was so dry that is was unraveling. There is a TV in the living room, but it is small. We weren't there for the TV, so it served its purpose. The bathroom could use some serious cleaning, but it was not gross. The shower head needs to be adjusted. The pressure was like a drill in two spots, and my husband joked that it felt like he was getting his nipple pierced when it hit him. But the pressure was good. The sink was wonky but in a good way. I wish all faucets had this pressure. Kinda felt like a small waterfall. I liked it. The room served its purpose. It was clean enough to not be too scary, just much of it was old. I am always afraid of bed bugs in places this old, but I am glad to report that there weren't any in our room. Overall, it was sufficient. But for $184 ($204 w/tax) a night, I definitely expected MUCH more than...
Read moreDo not stay here. The worst experience I’ve ever had. I’d give it a zero if it were available. ||||The hotel is very dirty and run down inside and out. ||||The grounds are not maintained, unswept and dirty with trash. Broken cars are parked on the property in plain site and half finished projects. ||||The lobby was dirty and dusty with papers cluttering the front desk. My husband has a service dog, but the woman still charged us $40 for a pet cleaning fee. This is not permitted by the ADA law. The total for the room was $190, way too much money. ||||The room we stayed in was 2D. It was old and dingy. The coffee table hadn’t been cleaned, it was sticky and dirty. The curtains were smaller than the front window, not covering it completely. The water kept running in the toilet. There was mold around the shower and the bathroom door was deteriorating from water damage.||||There was a separate room for the bedroom. The window in the bedroom didn’t have a lock and the screen looked like it had been pulled away by someone trying to get in. The bed was not comfortable with a thin bedspread. ||||The dead bolt did not work so we just locked the one on the door knob. We should have asked for a different room, this was a BIG MISTAKE. We went to bed early at 9:00 because we were traveling early in the morning. ||||I woke up about 11:30 hot and asked my husband to open the window and tried to go back to sleep. Dozing off about midnight I heard a car pull up in front of our room, car doors open, and people talking and laughing. ||||Next thing I knew someone was unlocking the door to our room. My husband jumped out of bed and told me to stay in the bedroom. He yelled at the people coming in the door to get out of our room. It was 4 people. The first guy threw the door said it was their room and he had a key to the door in his hand. My husband pushed them back and locked the door. ||||Needless to say we were scared to death! We didn’t know if we were getting robbed or what was going on. ||||I called the front desk and asked what the hell was going on. A man answered, he didn’t know and trying to figure it out. He hung up on me. The woman who was at the front desk earlier came to the room apologizing that there was a mistake and they gave the wrong key to the other people. We told her we didn’t want to hear excuses and told her to leave because we were too angry to talk to her. ||||Still too angry and felt unsafe we decided to get dressed, pack up and leave even though it was 12:30 am. We checked out and demanded a full refund....
Read moreI stayed on a Tuesday night during the off season and feel that I paid about twice what I felt was the actual value of the rooms worth for the day/season.
The room, while clean, was not only outdated, but in need of repair. I can understand the charm of a "retro" look and feel to a lake in the mountains lodge setting, but this is clearly a case of not investing in the structure for quite some time. Given the location, the lack of an AC unit was understandable. For cooling there was a box fan that could be placed by the window. For heating, there are baseboard vents which I can only assume no longer work as there was plug in radaiatior style heater stored next to the fan. Not too sure I would trust the outlets to handle the plug in heater, as the lights dimmed when I turned on the coffee maker in the morning. There was only soap for the shower (no lotion, shampoo or conditioner) The door lock are inadaquite, as a motivated 8 year old could easily break into your room. It has been years since I have watched TV on an actual CRT TV. The Hot Tub was heated to an enjoyable 102 degrees, but several large pieces of foam insulation piled up in the corner detracted from the experiance. As did several spots in the HT where the plaster was worn through to the cement below.
The location by the lake is very nice, but not worth the price I paid for a non view room. Did not check out the other places to stay at June Lake, but I would research them before booking here. If your only passing through, and don't need a room by the lake, then I would check out the more modern looking chain hotels just south in...
