On a road trip, traveling for 24hours, my husband, myself & our 2 large dogs (60 lbs each) stopped into Tucson for a night's rest when we located the cluster of Hotels in this area. We read the reviews on each of the 5 hotels in this location (La Quinta, Comfort Inn, Super 8, Days Inn & The Holiday Inn) and they ALL had feedback on how gross each hotel was. We then decided to physically check out each hotel in person and view the availabe rooms for certainty. The rooms at the Super 8 & Days Inn were both very low quality and filthy with unconcerned, unknowledgable staff. The Holiday Inn wasn't much of an improvement from the first 2 hotels we viewed. We then checked out the Comfort Inn, which was clean, comfortable and accommodating with our needs for WiFi but did not accept pets. We then went to the La Quinta for further investigation where we were greeted by an amazingly friendly staff! Stacey gave us a tour of the hotel which was prety well equipped with a fitness center, laundry facility, full breakfast served daily and brand new rooms from their recent remodel. And they also accept pets!! :-) They have 3 floors of rooms including suites and even though their second floor is currently closed for remodeling, we never heard a peep from the construction. Our room was remodeled and very clean, the beds & linens are clean, comfortable and soft, the room came with a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, seperate clothes closet w/ hangers, iron & board, nice size flat screen TV, desk & chair, small sitting area and lots of eateries close by. All for about $80 including our applied discount! During our entire stay, both the Day & Night staff were all so respectful and polite and offered any assistance that we may have needed. :-)
2 negatives for me were that there isn't a dedicated grass space to walk the pets, as there is a big sand lot beside the hotel where I noticed alot of pets did their business (and pet owners did not clean up after their pet). I had to walk our pets toward the grass on the golf course accross the street where I was then at risk of errant balls striking myself or my pet. Very unideal. As well as the trash cans in the room did not have trash bags & when I asked housekeeping for trashbags, I was told that they do not provide trash bags for the in-room cans which discouraged me from putting anything into an unlined trash can like discarded food, etc. However, housekeeping was so nice and did give me a few large laundry bags to use as trash bags, so it worked out. (La Quinta, get in-room trash bags please!! )
When you go, ask for Stacey! She is awesome and will take great care of you! Overall this was a great experience and we would definitely...
Read moreUnfortunately this hotel has seen better days. We chose this location because we were traveling with our tiny dog. For only an extra $25 a night she could stay with us. Lol.
Cons:
The hotel had an. . . Odor. Carpets in the hallways were FILTHY. Stained, bleached spots ALL over, spills, and just plain disgusting. The water feature in the lobby, the "bubble" wall was only ⅓ working. Lights burnt out all over, Only half the "mood lighting" led light strips worked, fit and finish just seemed old and forgotten. Broken trim, base moldings. The luggage trollys were wobbly, my suitcases fell off multiple times from rocking back and forth while pulling the trolly, and one of the two had a flat tire.
In the room, the shower looks like it might have been nice 30 years ago. The stainless steel overhead "rain shower" just gushed water out of its side like a garden hose, the normal showerhead sprayed water all over in different directions, and the thin from age fabric shower curtain allowed the aberrant water sprays to spray all over the floor and walls. Everything got soaked in the bathroom when we tried to take showers. The drywall in the bathroom was soft and squishy and falling off the wall in places.
The room, just like the rest of the hotel was past it's prime, chipped, worn, broken and shows major deferred maintenence.
The lighting in the room was "special" indirect lighting behind the headboard and two low powered in ceiling LEDs. I could not read without using my cell phone flashlight.
Complementary coffee in the breakfast area was instant. Just don't offer coffee if you have to use a dispenser like that.
Some staff were indifferent and just unpleasant, must not be a great place to work or they were having a bad week.
Pros:
Just off of i10 and near shopping and restaurants, decent area of town.
The carpet and tile in the room seemed fairly clean, as well as the sheets. Comfortable bed and the hide a bed wasn't horrible. The water was nice and hot, even if it went everywhere.
Some of the staff seamed nice and smiled. The breakfast "attendant" was pleasant.
Covered parking
Overall:
For the price, $170 a night plus $25 a night pet fees, I've stayed at FAR FAR nicer hotels at the same "star level" for less $$. This LaQuinta is just above a Motel 6 or Red Roof. I havent stayed in a LaQuinta for years, they used to be quality, clean places to stay. We probably won't go back to LaQuinta if this is how...
Read moreThis review is not for the staff because they were great. Especially Carlos who tried his best to ensure I received as much sleep as possible. As a medical provider traveling the US to help eliminate the COVID spread o was reassigned to Florida. I drove late night and ended up this LaQuinta as on the medical associations website it will take first responders. I check in close to 2am on the 31st, at noon while sleeping I receive a call from the front desk stating it’s check out time or I’ll be billed for another night. I stated I checked in early this morning and my check out is on the 1st of August. The front desk clerk says no it’s today. I ask if I could speak to the manager whom was not in but she would call her to call my room. Judith calls the room with an attitude. I explain to her this is the time I checked in a full night will be me checking out on the first not the 31st further I’m a first responder and I am truly tired the clerk that checked me in last night has my check out on the 1st. That’s when Judith became inimical and stated, “I don’t know what to tell you but my system doesn’t update till 3am so technically you checked in on the 30th and not the 31st. If you stay you will be charged for a full night!” I was so disgusted with her sloppy response and attitude. I paid a full nights fee for only a couple of hours of sleep because her system doesn’t update till 3am. She wouldn’t even allow me to pay a late check out fee just to get a few more hours of sleep. Never during this whole pandemic healthcare traveling has any LaQuinta’s treated me or other providers this way. I get it hotels want to recoup a year’s lost of monetary’s, but to what avail? We’ve all felt the crunch of the pandemic. The staff is super nice, helpful and friendly; especially Carlos, but this manager is low budget probably has no formal customer service education or degree. It’s too bad this LaQuinta has caused me to seek other hotels brands. I will be cancelling my...
